Some of Clemens' best throws have been right in a receiver's hands and have been dropped. And this is not just about last weekend. It goes all the way back to the Ravens game. While JMac has been a key contributor to many of the drops, he is not the only one. I have seen Baker, L. Washington, TJ, Coles, Cotch, and Brad Smith do it, too. I think it will take an entire preseason for the receivers to get use to a different feel of the ball. Its' velocity. Its' spin rate - etc. It may sound stupid, but I view it a lot like seeing off-speed pitches and then suddenly seeing fast balls. Everything is different. The timing; everything. I am not making excuses, but all the receivers are being asked to adapt quickly to something they have been unaccustomed to.
The thing that is not obvious about the relationship between starters and solid backups in the NFL is that for the most part they have the same level of talent. There are a handful of guys at each position that are just head and shoulders above the field, but the majority of starters and solid backups are similarly talented. What do the starters have that the solid backups do not? A starting job. That's why NFL players are so petrified of missing any time due to injury. There's usually somebody just as good as them looking right over their shoulder and waiting to take their job at the first opportunity. The fact that Bender is not good enough to take Adrien Clarke or Anthony Clement's job really tells us most of what we need to know about him. He's probably a pretty bad player because the guys in front of him aren't even average players. In that light there really is no reason to look at Bender for another season. There's been no reason to keep Adrian Jones on the roster either. You need to keep adding people who are just a tiny step from starting to your roster if you want to build a good team. Adding all the Tom Goodwins in existence will not save you if Kevin Mawae gets hurt.
Bradway, You may find this an interesting tidbit or if you monitor other sites you may have heard it already. There are factions in the Jets management that think Bender should start over Clement right now. He has been practicing well and has looked ok. For whatever reason he is not getting any game time. I think the guy that repeats that info has some inside knowledge. I do not know that for fact but I think it to be the case.
Nah, I fancy myself a pretty educated guy, and have played the sport... but I haven't posted here since like I said, Fantasy Land took up residence. figured now was as good a time as any to start posting a little bit again
It's interesting in a way, however it then reflects on the Jet's coaching staff. They have had a nightmare of an offensive line problem all season and they haven't tried to use either Bender or Jones? My gut feeling is that the Jets have the best offensive linemen on the roster on the field, and that that is the huge problem. I could be wrong.
Welcome back. If you are educated do not plan on staying long. It is kind of like do not look into the light thing................LOL Also no worries I am the first to realize sarcasm can be lost on the internet. Especially if you read it quickly or just do not know the poster right away...........
Yes it is a huge problem that purports to the stubbornness of Mangini. Now again it is hearsay at this point. But if true I would be greatly disappointed in Mangini, Wise or whomever allowed this to happen. The most talented players should be playing. Beyond that if two players are similar than the younger one with a clear future should be out there. I mean how much worse can he be than Clement? I can not picture him being worse.
I can't argue with this at all. I really do not have any feel for where Bender is, but I do hope the CS and Tannenbaum does act in a positive manner in addressing what is about as evident as a firework going off with regard to the state of the offensive line.
