Yeah I can't see him leaving , the Raven re did his contract this season. If anyone goes.....it could be Lewis.
True, but his best skills is pass rushing and using his hands to beat his man. His biggest knock is size. The size part offers a huge question mark on his ability to remain at 3-4 end as a pro. I'd rather have Kentwan Balmer.
He has the frame to increase his size, and with his experience at the 3-4 I don't think he would necessarily be a bad pick, still being able to get the amount of sacks that he has in college even if you don't like his size is impressive. Personally I think we need to upgrade our dline big time because right now we are only dependent on deception, we need not only size but playmakers on defense
Iunno, I think his frame looks really filled out. At one point in his college career, there was worry that his frame would never even allow 275. He's tall yea, but his frame is very compact. Guys like Dre Moore have similar height, but their arms and legs are so much more long and loose than Long's are...thats a projectable frame.
I think some of the "size" posts on Jets boards are funny. Someone needs to explain to me how 6'4" 275 lbs (Chris Long) is small when Abe was 6'4" and 258 lbs........ http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5042
If I had the choice now my desired players in order would be McFadden-Long-Gholston-Jake Long-Laurinaitis. I think we'll certainly end up with one of those guys, and really I wouldn't be disappointed with any of them, but depending on how many and what kind of picks we get for Chad, Vilma, and if we have our pick this year or next for Kendall, I'd probably be more inclined to go with the big offensive playmaker in McFadden over more of a need like an O-lineman or a DE.
Give me Dorsey, Jake Long or Chris Long any of those three. Are three biggest needs are offensive lineman, pass rushing linebackers and defensive lineman. Dorsey should be fine in a 4-3 as a tackle or a 3-4 as an end. He's built like a house with a thick base. Jake Long should be a very good nfl lineman from day one. And Chris Long I would think would fit in nicely as a 3-4 OLB. I think it would take time for him to learn the position but almost every 3-4 OLB has a long adjustment period. You can find a speed linebacker to run off the edge at QB every play but that will hurt your defense if that player can't play the run or cover anyone. 3-4 OLB's are better off being well rounded players who do all three.
Chris Long at the DE/OLB position? In a draft with Vernon Gholston, Quentin Groves, Chris Ellis, Titus Brown, Shawn Crable, Tommy Blake...and basically a ton of guys who fit the position much better athletically...why would we draft him? And DE/OLB's learning curves aren't so bad because at the very worst they make an impact as pass rushers very early...at least the good ones do. Ware, Merriman, and Wimbley have handled the transition well recently. Guys may struggle dropping back in coverage, but these guys are usually there to rush the passer. Long would really have to blow me away at the combine to convince he could handle the DE/OLB position.
