1. Signings: OG | Jake Scott | Colts | 6-5 | 295 lbs Lots of FAs on Indy's OL; they can't sign everyone. CB | Randall Gay | Patriots | 5-11 | 190 lbs Jets finish the deal a year later. NT/DT | Randy Stark | Titans | 6-3 | 315 lbs Has 3-4 experience in college. He's strong, quick, versatile and very young (only 23). QB | Cleo Lemon | Dolphins | 6-2 | 215 lbs We will need a veteran back-up QB w/ Chad gone. S | Donnie Nickey | Titans | 6-3 | 210 lbs Solid back-up and good special teams player. We need insurance for Rhodes and Washington is not the answer. 2. Non-resignings: QB Marques Tuiasasopo -The journey continues for the journeyman QB. SS Erik Coleman -Only cause Mangini does not like him for some reason. LB Victor Hobson -Better fit playing inside in inside somewhere else. OT Adrian Jones -He can start for some teams. I still don't know why he hasn't been given a chance at LOG. LB Brad Kassell -Has been a disappointment. TE Sean Ryan -Make room Fred Davis. 3. Releases: CB David Barrett -Contract to talent ratio is not very good. WR Justin McCariens -Another Badway signing that must move on. CB Andre Dyson -Can't stay healthy. 4. Resignees: OL Wade Smith - 1 year deal 5. Trades: -Jonathan Vilma to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their 2nd round pick (assuming #56). Jonathan gets to go home to Florida and Tampa gets the perfect MLB for their Cover 2 scheme. -DeWayne Robertson to the Indianapolis Colts for their 1st round pick (assuming #30). Dungy has been looking a 3 technique tackle in Indy for some time now. After not having much success with Corey Simon and Bubba McFarland, the 3rd time will be the charm. Robertson along with Mathis and Freeney would make quite a D-line. Chad Pennington to the Kansas City Chiefs for their 4th round pick (assuming #135). Herm and Chad together again. Trade our 1st round pick (assuming #4 and McFadden is available) to the Dallas Cowboys for their 2 1st round picks (assuming #21 and #31). Julius Jones is a FA and Barber is more effective sharing the load like he's done in college and the pros. 5. Draft: 1(#21) - DE/OLB | Vernon Gholston | Ohio St | 6-4 | 262 lbs Finally a pass rusher. Should have a easiest transition to the OLB position out of the top 3 guys hybrid DEs because Ohio St lines him up everywhere and has some experience dropping into coverage. 1(#30) - DT/DE | Kentwan Balmer | North Carolina | 6-5 | 295 lbs Versatile player who can line up at defensive end in a 3-4 or tackle in a 4-3. He should help the d-line rotation. 1(#31) - TE | Fred Davis | USC | 6-4 | 250 lbs Baker is a terrific pass catching TE but lacks the speed to consistently create separation or stretch the field. Davis is a formwer WR turned TE which will add this missing element. 2(#35) - OT | Christopher Williams | Vanderbilt | 6-6 | 320 lbs Sleeper OT prospect who allowed only 1 sack his senior against SEC competition. 2(#56) - WR | Andre Caldwell | Florida | 6-0 | 200 lbs It's a 3 WR league. Reche's little brother broke nearly every receiving record in Florida. 3(#67) - ILB | Beau Bell | UNLV | 6-2 | 249 lbs This years' David Harris. This will be Barton's replacement at some point. 4(#100) - CB | Leodis McKelvin| Troy St | 5-11 | 190 lbs Underrated corner and lethal return man. 4(#102) - S | Quentin Demps | U.T.E.P | 6-1 | 205 lbs Playmaking safety that can free up Rhodes to roam and blitz. 5(#137) - DT/DE | Keilen Dykes | West Virginia | 6-5 | 295 lbs Again more D-line depth. 6(#175) - FB | Jehuu Caulcrick| Michigan St | 6-0 | 255 lbs Should help our short yardage problems and good receiver at of the backfield. 7(#210) OG | Andrew Radovich | USC | 6-5 | 299 lbs One of the better OG prospects in the draft. He will probably drop because OG is not a value position. 2008 Depth Chart: Offense QB: Kellen Clemens | Cleo Lemon | Brad Smith RB: Thomas Jones | Leon Washington | Danny Ware WR1: Laveranues Coles | Andre Caldwell | Chansi Stuckey WR2: Jerricho Cotchery | Brad Smith | Wallace Wright FB: Darian Barnes | Jehuu Caulcrick TE: Chris Baker | Fred Davis | Joe Kowalewski LT: D'Brickashaw Ferguson | Christopher Williams LG: Jake Scott | Adrien Clarke | Jacob Bender C: Nick Mangold | Wade Smith RG: Brandon Moore | Andrew Radovich RT: Anthony Clement | Christopher Williams | Jacob Bender Defense LDE: Shaun Ellis | Kentwan Balmer NT: Randy Starks | Sione Pouha RDE: Kenyon Coleman | Keilen Dykes LOLB: Bryan Thomas | Jason Trusnik LILB: Eric Barton | Beau Bell RILB: David Harris | Beau Bell ROLB: Vernon Gholston | David Bowens CB1: Darrelle Revis | Justin Miller | Hank Poteat CB2: Randall Gay | Leodis McKelvin | Drew Coleman FS: Quintin Demps | Erik Smith SS: Kerry Rhodes | Donnie Nickey K: Mike Nugent P: Ben Graham KR: Justin Miller | Leon Washington | Leodis McKelvin PR: Leodis McKelvin | Leon Washington
hahahaha...you think Indy is going to give us a first rounder for D-Rob? What are you smoking? and picking a tight end that isn't even the best tight end in this draft with that first rounder? I said earlier in the month after I saw Mel Kiper's big board that I didn't even know who the hell Kentwan Balmer is, so I would like to see his combine workout, before I see the NYJs use a first rounder on him. I like Vernon Gholston and that is a very good spot to take him, but no one else in your draft makes sense. Stark, Gay and Scoot would be good signings, but Cleo Lemon and Donnie Nickey are both wastes. 21 and 31 for 4 in the first round is a terrible trade -- the value isn't even close. Donnie Nickey is garbage. Why would we start Demps, who you have us drafting in the 4th round, RIGHT AWAY? You can't throw a 4th round safety in and leave him in centerfield by himself while Rhodes blitzes and "roams". Players like Demps can't pick up the game that fast. (By the way, Rashad Washington probably isn't the answer behind Rhodes, and my reasoning behind that is because Washington was cut in November...and Darian Barnes will most likely be cut, since he's been inactive for many of our games this season.)
Yeah I thought so too...but I looked on Yahoo, and he's still on our roster, and there was nothing in the Transactions section. I just didn't say it because I wasn't sure.
Do yourself a favor and check the nfl draft value chart on nfldraftcountdown.com and do the math to determine if your trades make sense -- especially the cowboys trade. I've given this speech a million times, ITS NOT MATHEMATICALLY FEASIBLE. Cheers.
I'll be at the draft in NYC in April, 2008. You will notice me because I will be the one crying if we waste yet another 1st round pick (or any draft choice as far as I'm concerned) on a TE. That is, if I'm not already crying because we just spent our 2nd pick of our 3 picks in the 1st round on a guy that "helps out in our rotation." ANYONE SELECTED IN ROUNDS 1 - 3 SHOULD BE STARTING FROM DAY ONE ---- PERIOD.
I appreciate the hard work, but this would be a terrible offseason. What's with all the Gay love (couldn't resist)? He's nothing special and really no better than Barrett, not to mention he couldn't hold Dyson's jock.
No, Ugoh was a 2nd rounder. I doubt they gave up their first rounder to the Niners to pick Ugoh in the 2nd round.
First off the Colts dont even have a 1st rounder, 2nd they wouldnt trade a first rounder for d-rob.3rd if we do all of these trades those players signing bonuses will count toward that 08 season. And with 11 new players in the draft alone ( I think the maximum is 10 by the way im not sure) and with those free agent signings that off season will be very unllikely. Also if we have 3 1st round picks it better be betters picks than that. The only player worthy of being drafted in the 1st is Golston.I like the 1st 2nd round pick in Williams but Caldwell i mean hes alright but he kinda has bust written all over him nevr really has dominated a game that i have watched him in.If we draft a reciever in the 2nd it better be Mannnigham, Bennett, Sweed or Bowman. Besides that honestly u did a good job i know these things arent easy
Dyson hasn't recorded a tackle since week 9. Is he injured? I don't see him listed as such. Or is he just in Mangini's doghouse?
Not so terrible. They traded a pick that will probably be 29 to 31 for their current starting LT. I think most NFL teams would do that in a second.
Still...they traded a first rounder for a second rounder. I will quote most guys in the draft forum: "Look at the value chart!"
