well folks as the 3-10 jets embark on another grueling sunday cluster phuk i cannot help but think that this has the potential to be one of the lowest franchise spots in the last few centuries..... thats right - as low as the initial kotite debacle, lou holtz impression of petrino, the final walton charade, all of the 3-11 teams of the 70's, etc etc etc...... the complete lack of respect and relentless jokes make me sick as i am sure it does most other green blooded fans. i really do not know how players AND management can look at themselves and be satisfied. we have seen this recycle itself for more than 40 years and its not going to end sunday thats for sure. not quite going the way of KURT but there really is not much to say about this franchise. We all have our ideas and expert opinions as to what they can do to fix this thing - and some of them are spot on, IMO - but they really do not matter. - just let those boys collect their paychecks and spin the mouse wheel. how bout some empty seats to send a clear message to the owner and his club for that last home game - unless you season ticket holders want to witness the classic matchup of one cursed franchise against one that, IMO, is following very closely and about to be infected with the same dang curse. apologize for the rant but the darksider hat is back on front and center. jil
Bring in some real pros to run the show. The ONE time the Jets did that in 1997, the results were instantaneous and the franchise righted itself for half a decade+. Mostly the Jets make projects of their management and coaching staffs and then we wonder why the results are not what we wished for.
Jil, Save yourself from further hardship/heartbreak. Cash it in. There's no shame in doing so. You either have to have hope, or it's self flagellation every day of your waking life. I used to think like you...get real upset after every loss. Kick the dog, etc. It's not way to go through life. So enjoy the ups, and expect the downs. I would also argue this isn't the low point of 40 years. Kotite was far worse than this -- there was no hope at all. The Joe Must Go years of Walton's reign were horrendous, too.
I have seen many low points of Jets football. The biggest issue we have now is this is the worst collection of overall talent I have every seen on this club. I do like the draft picks this team has made and I think we have finally gotten the cap managed to the point where we can make some moves. I think the HC has done a good job keeping a very bad team with some good young talent playing hard and keeping games close. As bad as this season has been, I really believe it's just about adding the players.
I'd try to get Cowher. Probably a fool's errand, but you know he wants to hold the reins right now and guide a team from cellar to penthouse. Give him a huge contract and let him try to set the Jets straight.
Yeah I was online at a local Coffee shop and had to endure a Patsy fan sayin all they had to do was beat Pittsburgh and the rest they could mail in. I had to harass him and told him its not bad enough I get it from all my Giant fan friends from home but now I gotta here it in North Carolina too. Oh welll I had nothin for him.
Ya don't need to have anything for him. The Pats will be done in by the same thing that does in all great teams: time and injuries. On our side it's a bit more grim because while there is a general rule that the mighty will fall given enough time, there is no corresponding rule that the lowly will rise. We're going to have to earn our way out of the depths and that time and injury thing works against us also, we just have less talent to start with.
jil,Br4dw4y5ux...you guys are two of the most coherent posters (even when sux has the hate hat on....) that bring this obscenity back to a level of intelligent observation and discourse... Yes, the results have been bad, this season. But let me ask you guys these two things.... A: If Mangini doesn't phuck up the Pennington situation, by allowing him back on the field, in less than the month he should have been off the ankle, where would we be? (i.e....if Clemens plays from Baltimore through Cleveland....then a Healthy Pennington returns...) We might have 6 or 7 wins right now.....which is where everyone thought this season was going. (adding Rob or Rex Ryan, for sutton, and an OC might help....) B. Mangini is a second year coach, with a veteran, proven, respected QB...The mistake while tragic is understandable, but I don't think the record is reflective of the state of the team. One or Two Olineman, a NT, and a Perimeter threat, make this a better team...adding a WOLB makes us better by orders of magnitude...
I am still a Mangini supporter, at least I'm willing to give him more time to get the right players in..The one change I would support is bringing in Cowher though, only problem is there is little to no chance that he comes here. All the reports I have seen say he is prepared to sit out another year unless a team like Carolina comes calling and offers the big bucks. I would assume Atlanta is also a possibilty too. So if we take Cowher out of the equation I don't see anyone else that is worth giving up on Manginis potential. They have drafted well and the team is still playing hard for him, they just need more talent.
Thats a Nightmare. Cowher goes to Atlanta, and trades for Pennington while he builds a team around him.
Disagree this team has back up quality players at key positions all over the field. While those teams were bad, they were not this bad.
Winston, most of that roster wouldnt be backups on this team. We did have some better front line skill position players, but the roster was a mess... Half of the good players were past their prime in 1990.
Hey I'm still a Pennington supporter too but there wont be a team that builds a team around him. Its more likely that Cowher goes to Atlanta, drafts a QB and builds the team around him. With Atlanta and most likely Carolina looking for new HCs this offseason, the chances of Cowher coming here are very little.
It takes time to draft, and nurture a QB. Look at what Cowher likes. Big D, Good Run...Pass efficiently. Atlanta plays 10 games a year in a Dome.....(Big factor...)
the coslet years killed me as a football fan. And then Bringin in Boomer Esiason, to Replace Obrien, I almost quit being a fan entirely. To this day, I still consider Parcells the most important Jet behind Namath.
Mangini reminds me a lot of Coslet, unfortunately. Boomer sucked. And they hadn't even cut Kenny O when they introduced him with his no. 7 jersey. Way to reward a guy for taking it like a man and getting killed all those years. Parcells will always be a Giant to me. He deserves our respect, but not our love. To me, Wesley Walker is the epitome of the Jets. Truly gifted amazing player with the fatal flaw.
I think Mangini is a far better evaluator of talent than Coslet will ever be. Mangini's problems stem from getting too far, too soon, too young. Thats why Chad got back on the field. Thats Why our OC sucks, and why Sutton was kept on.... Once EM grows into his role a bit, I think the last two items will work themselves out....
