You still haven't explained how we made the playoffs last year with Chad at QB, no Curtis, and Barlow and Houston at RB. Because you can't.
A weak schedule get a clue. Like I told you 9 months ago. All the teams you were deluded into thinking were better than us last year we didn't play we lost to as I told you we would this year. And some of them are not even good this year. FACT NOT FICTION! Last year was an act of perfect luck! Chad had Thomas Jones and won nothing this year! Fact not Fiction!
In defense of both QBs on the roster... WTF happened to the play action? That was about the one thing Herm and Co. had right?
Depends on the Roster next year. It is to early to answer this. The Difference between this year and last is the Front office knows they have to upgrade alot of spots and not go into the draft thinking we were two players away from winning the division from the Pat's.
Once again im saying it was all Chads fault but it is his time to go. It is obvious we need a Qb who can put up points in this era of the Pat's and Colts and Mr Pennington can not do that.
You can say that about all of the 31 teams who aren't the Patriots. They might have the best team in history, what are you supposed to do about that? We happen to be in their division, that doesn't mean you have to overhaul your whole roster.
There are a lot of teams that are a few good picks away from being able to beat the Patriots. I think the Chargers have the skill but a bad coach, If by some miracle the Ravens get their offense together they can beat the Pats, The Browns are a few players on the Defensive side of the ball away from competing, The Bills are a good draft away and the Jags are a few players away as well. We have to redo our lines on both sides of the ball. We are drafts away from being good again and we have to overhaul a large portion of our roster due to lack of talent or age.
Anyone can beat the Patriots in one game, we did it last year. The problem with being in their division is that we have to outplay them for 16 games, otherwise we're a 5 or 6 seed at best and going on the road in the playoffs. That's been our dilemna this whole decade. If you're San Diego or Baltimore, you can win your division, get a home game and take your one shot at the Pats, we can't do that.
If you get to the playoffs have the talent and are the hot team going in you have a shot at beating anybody. I don't believe there is such a thing as an unbeatable team and if we have the talent we can go to their house and beat them.
I find it kind of sad that there are so many Jet fans enamored by the mediocrity that Pennington brings to the table. I guess years upon years of failure can fool people into accepting mediocre as the best they can get. Pennington is a slightly above average QB with fading skills. He is not a top tier QB and he never will be. Sure, teams have won superbowls with less than great QB's. It happens on occasion, but for the most part it has been teams with the great QB's that are winning and/or competing for a superbowl year in and year out. The way I see it is that you need a lot of things to go your way to win it with that less than great QB. Is it the ultimate team sport? Sure it is, but consistently winning in the NFL can be traced back to great QB play far more often than not. We all want a superbowl, we've all been waiting far too long for that to happen to our beloved Jets. If you want to continue to try and outdraw pocket kings with a weak ace or some other crappy hand, it's going to be hard to do, but it does happen. Personally I'd like to see us continue to build the trenches while we groom a possible great QB. We know Pennington is not that guy so any time spent with him at QB is a waste. Clemens is still an unknown with potential. Personally I haven't seen anything to warrant greatness from him yet but I'm willing to have a little patience. Finding the next great QB is the only way we can become a perennial power house team that consistently competes for superbowls rather than playoff appearances. You can have your playoff appearances, go follow Chad where ever he goes.
QFT, Bravo! I'm so SICK of the love so many fans have for Chad, often times seemingly putting him above the team.... No team ever improved by benching a young QB with potential for an older guy, with an injury riddled past, who is clearly on the decline... It's just a stupid notion.... We all like Chad as a person, but we're Jet fans, not Chad fans.... Just as I hate hearing about how poorly Herm does in KC every week, since he's not our coach anymore, I'm sure I'm going to hate hearing about how great Chad's QB rating is with whatever team he winds up on next year....
In all fairness, the two backs you keep brining up did not lead the team in rushing, Leon did. I'm not sure Kellen is the nswer, but Chad is shot. He was only able to overcome the lowly dolphins this year with better RB's than Barlow and Houston.
Vinny did NOT have an injury riddled past, and, as he had never reached his potential, was not CLEARLY on the decline.... Physically, Vinny barely even BEGAN to decline until his achilles injury in '99... Additionally, Foley had been in the league since '94.....
