Chris Carter and Chris Collinsworth did a segment where Carter was Coach Belichek and Collinsworth was our beloved Coach Mangini. The premise was pre-game speeches. Carter gave his speech to the Pats and it was predictable- they beat us last year at home, I raised Mangini and he betrayed me. Run up the score, etc. Collinsworth gave the best speech i ever heard--- We dont have a chance to win this game and I dont care. We are going to hit these guys like they have never been hit before. If that doctor doesn't come on the field more than 5 times, you are all cut. If they start to get on a roll, we send 6, 7, 8, even 11 guys at Tom Brady. Take Randy Moss apart. If you go for an interception instead of breaking a receivers back, i will cut you off this team. If we happen to win the game, I will walk across the field and hand the game ball to Belichek and say "Coach, stick that in your trophy case." All i have to say is David "The Hitman" Harris will have the spirit of Mo Lewis in him come Sunday. Havoc has been cried out, and the dogs are hungry.
With the Jets' luck they will take Brady out and Matt Cassel will pick them apart and go on to have a Hall of Fame career.
Here is what I would say: "Hey guys. I'm gonna make this short and sweet. A lot of people are saying we can't win this game. Let 'em think it. It certainly won't be easy. They've got a better offense and defense, no denying it. They have us beat in every position. But where the biggest difference is, is heart. We have the heart to beat them. They know they're better and they're gonna act like it. They want to prove that they don't have to cheat to beat us. And they're gonna be agressive. We can take advantage of that. We can hit em when they're exposed. Don't go for the flashy play. Hit them. Hit them and hit them hard, every time you get near a guy he better be on the ground a couple seconds later. If we can get them worn out and fighting, we can take advantage. No matter what happens, hit them. Make them hurt after the game, make them remember that it wasn't easy. Kill them."
Inside the NFL used to be a good show, but it seems like they went out and got the four biggest tools they could find.
This has to be the approach...an in my opinion, every single game there needs to be a few guys on the team that bring that mentality on every play....if not, you will never be a feared defense. There's too much finesse on defenses in the NFL, and not enough intent to injure.
Intresting inspirational speech by colinsworth. I would think as a Media guy, he wouldn't be trying to egg the Jets on to hurt the Pats...
