This CP vs KC crap needs to stop. We can all agree, to disagree. However, what we all want is a win against the Pats -- this would make the season oh so sweet and immortalize this Jets team forever in NFL history. The lowly NYJ defeat the great Patriots destroying their hopes of being perfect. Given KC's inexperience and his porious play this season, all people are saying is on this given Sunday CP gives the Jets the best chance to win. CP has familiarity with the Pats, he has beaten the Pats, he was playing well in the 1st game until he got hurt. Hell, he came back and shredded their D on one leg for a TD. KC will not have any success against the Pats, everyone knows he has problems reading defenses, holds the ball too long, etc, what do you think the Pats will do to him -- confuse the shit out of him and blitz him like crazy. BB knows CP has beaten them in the past so he will not be as aggressive. Look, the chances of a win are already slim, we have nothing to lose, send CP in for one last attempt at winning, as someone said, our Super Bowl. What have you lost, KC missing one game where he would have gotten killed anyway? If CP plays well, it will help his trade value. If CP starts, the Jets are blown out by halftime, put in KC so he gets his reps. But alas, I know, its wishful thinking.
Basically it doesnt matter who is right and who is wrong here, CP will be on the sidelines this weekend and thats that. KC will most definatly get serverd up a nice plate of ass kicking this weekend and there is nothing we can do to stop it. Of course Chad gives us a better chance at winning this weekend. It does not mean he should be our starting QB apparently.
Clemens has "bucked up"? More like the opposing teams drop into a prevent D because we're down 20-3 or 17-6. Most QBs can at least move between the 20s in that situation and that's all Clemens has done. His great comebacks have resulted in a pick vs Baltimore and FGs vs Washington and Pittsburgh. Get back to me when we score a TD to win a game. The point being we didn't have to wait for him to "get it" or spend a year and a half figuring out if he could play. He was good as soon as he came in and turned a season around. And if the team was built to win, why were they 1-4 and 2-5? And Coles hurt his ankle on the play, so once again nyjunc is correct. By contrast, Chad hit him in stride 57 yards down the field in Cincinnati for a TD on the first drive. There goes another theory. The lions den in a 6-3 game? Why didn't he "buck up"? Oh yeah, Buffalo wasn't in a prevent D. Also, I love how a 6-3 game with 10:00 left is "garbage time" when Clemens is playing but the playoff game last year was still up for grabs at 30-16 with 4:00 left when Chad threw the last pick. Now I have nothing against Clemens, but this is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about.
Pretty much all I'm saying. I think it makes more sense to start Clemens because he's currently the starter, but he should be on a short leash so the game doesn't get out of hand. I think Chad off the bench with no pressure on him could be effective. Like you said, he moved the ball against NE in Week 1, we just couldn't get the offense back on the field after closing it to 28-14.
Oh...I get it...So now you think Hobbs and Samuel have forgotten how to jump the 4 yard out pattern ??????
Last game: C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT C. Pennington 16/21 167 8.0 2 0 They did not jump shit now did they????? Thats with being hurt. Besides whats your point, so it's better they pick off inaccurate 30 yard passes from KC? Your missing the point of the most of the posts, our one chance to make this season something to talk about... CP gives the Jets the best chance to even attempt to beat NE.
Yes, we did have to wait. We waited 2 and 1/4 years for him to 'get it' In fact he was so magnificent early in his career, that he sat under two different head coaches... And the 1-4 was bad QB play. In prior seasons essentially the same team went, 12-4, 8-8 (With NO REAL QB) and 9-7 the prior 3 years. And we all know that Cincinatti plays defense as well as Pittsburgh, right??? It was 13-3 ...late (3 minutes left)...so they basically came after him every down...Do you even WATCH these games...???
Chad can start and go 0-30 with five interceptions and they will still find a reason for him to still be the starter. Let it go. Hopefully when he is in the Cfl next season we won't have to listen to this anymore.
Because we had a QB playing that had taken us to the AFC Championship game, you're going to start an unproven rookie over him? Apples and oranges, man, come on. Changing QBs turned that season around. Changing QBs did nothing to improve this season at all. Spin it all you like those are the facts. Both plays were surprise hits down the field on the first drive of the game. One was completed in stride for a TD, the other was underthrown, resulting in an injury to the WR. Now that's an apples to apples comparison. I was at the game. It was 6-3 until the final minutes when Buffalo hit the long TD pass.
No he doesnt... Every Sunday week in week out, Moore and Clarke miss blocks that lead to situations that Chad can't handle. And if Chad is not the long term answer, then you are doing Chad a disservice by putting him in a position to get hurt again, and screwing yourself out of any trade value you might get. The simple fact is both guys beat Miami, and Clemens beat Pittsburgh, while Chad couldn't beat Buffalo or Cincy, despite having a better complement of skill players..
Ok...so maybe now that the alcohol has worn off, tell me...at what point did Clemens ENTER THE GAME?????? (Here's a clue.....3:18 left...)
A whole 3.18 left when Chad the great had a whole game to beat the Mighty Bills! Mangini saved Chad from throwing another game ending interception that would further embarrass him. He should have let Chad stay in and finish his mess!
And Chad beat New England Last year in a Monsoon when everybody on the field was running 6-6 fortys! What's the point. A win is a win.
and when he's "bucked up" he's still led us to losses against Wash, Bal and Cleveland. if he "bucked up" earier in games we easily would have won those games. and KC sat for a full season and took over a team that was supposed to be a playoff contender, built to win just like Chad. When Chad took over in 2002 we were playing WORSE than when KC took over this year. Coles had 15 yards on the defender, KC underthrew him making him wait for the ball and take an unneccessary hit which got him hurt. He didn't put coles 3 feet up in the air, it was a ball Coles didn't have to jump for but he ALWAYS jumps for balls whether he has to or not just like on Sunday when he got hurt jumping for a ball KC threw that he didn't have to jump for. Those don't count? here was almost 4 mins left when KC cme in and we were down 1. there was still time to do something, it wasn't liekly but we weren't losing by 20 w/ 4 mins left and why do we discount garbage time for KC and not for Chad? Chad's final INT at Buf was in garbage tie we had no time to get down the field, his last INT against the Giants came at a similar moment in the game as KC's against Buf. points allowed doesn't matter? So you'd rather accumulate more yards w/o points? He was a rookie in 2000 so he was't playing, he was in his 3rd systemin 3 years in '01 so he wasn't playing and heading into '02 Vinny had led us to 10 wins and earned the right to start the season. 2002 was NOT b/c of poor QB play alone, Vinny wasn't ery good but Curtis ws hurting and had less than 100 rushing yards in TOTAL the first 4 games, the D was atrocious-worse than this year's group and the pasing O was nonexistant. The team was not the same that had wo 12 games, it was not even the same team that had won 10 the year beforethanks to the cap problems we had. We had 6 new defensive starters and we had a new RT, LG and new starting WR on O w/ a young QB and Chad led us out of a 1-4, 2-5hole to a division title- the only non-Patsdiv title since 2001. what does that have to do w/ anything? Ther wasn't a defender w/in 15 yards of Coles when KC threw that ball- they bit on a trick play. The Jets got the ball back at 3:38 and KC took his first snap at 3:32- there was time left to get something done. It wasn't his fault we lost but don't make it seem like we were don 20 pts w/ 3 mins to go.
Agree Junc the Jets have no future, Chad is a washed up QB with two shoulder injuries who was excellent for 12 games and good for at least 1 and a half seasons before wrecking his arm, Clemens has just plain sucked with a year on the bench to learn. Clearly after a year on the bench and almost a half a season we know he has bad mechanics, bad footwork and isn't accurate. Hard to see how either Tui or Brad Smith is the answer. I'm very happy I'm not a season ticket holder and won't have to make a decision on laying out PSL money. The only hope for this franchise is bringing back Herm after he is canned in KC.
Agreed on all counts. The similarities are very striking to when each QB took the starting job. In both cases the Jets were coming off a 10-6 season, first round playoff exit, and struggled out of the gate in the second year of the coaching staff's tenure. Both QBs had a year plus a few games to sit and watch how the offense was run. If you want to make a big deal over the fact that Chad had an extra year to watch in Al Groh's system with a totally different offense and never played a down, I'd have to disagree that that helped him at all by 2002. You can make the case that the team was in a bigger hole this year when Clemens came in at 1-6 as opposed to Chad coming in at 1-3, but that's about the only tangible difference. Even so, I don't think anyone was expecting Clemens to pull out a division title like Chad did because the Patriots are simply the best team in football this year whereas 9-7 did the trick in 2002. Not to mention that one of the six losses was Clemens' game.
