I read Myers column this morning from yesterday's news--I didn't realize that the Pats have SF 1st round pick, which right now, is just ahead of the Jets. For the first time in a long-time, Myers was making a decent point, saying that Commish Goodell should've taken the "better of the Pats 1st round picks" as punishment for spygate. Pats will lost their 32nd pick after winning the Super Bowl, and be in line for McFadden or a host of picks if they trade down. Time to petition for a berth in the NFC.
When the Jets develop a rational plan for becoming a good team they'll have taken the first of many steps necessary to compete with the Patriots. Right now the Patriot's front office is super-rational and when you combine that with the utter lack of rationality in the Jet's FO over the last half decade it becomes clear where the yawning chasm between the two teams comes from. I see the Jets as a generational doormat for the Patriots at this point. Wishing won't make that go away, only solid football management will.
I'll admit that the wait is starting to get to me. I only waited 23 years for the Rangers to win the Stanley Cup. I'm getting this 50 year feeling about the Jets.
For what it's worth, I think the commish can only take draft picks that are awarded by the league, something in the by-laws. So, if the Pats had already traded their #1 pick in 2008, they would have to take 2009's first rounder. I am not an expert, but I'm pretty sure the league rules are clear about that sort of thing.
I don't understand why we would worry about the Pats. We are light years away right now from competing with them. At the current pace, Brady will be retired the next time we make a playoff run.
/Sarcasm We have a draft forum? Like, i should go there to talk about the draft? Wow, what a great Idea. Did this just start this week? /Sarcasm off
I dont care who the Patriots draft @#2... But if they take D.McFadden I will go crazy... With Brady, Moss, McFadden, Maroney and that O-Line... I dont see them being stoped at all next year.
I think a more realistic scenario is that they take a LB. They have an aging LB corps with Thomas Bruschi and Vrabel (not sure about Colvin) all over 30. Laurinaitis would be scary to face 2x a year. They could probably trade down a bit from #2 and still grab him. Ain't it grand being a Jets fan??!!!
Yes, this is a scary thought. We can't worry about it. If the Pats are smart they could prey on someone's stupidity (like ours for instance); IMO, they should undoubtedly trade the pick. They could do wonders for their aging Defensive Backfield with this move.
Most of Patriots Planet is thinking the same way, trade down the San Francisco #1, and reload the defense with youth and speed. The big question is which franchise will be stupid, and how stupid. Given how badly some teams need potential franchise QBs, we are guessing someone will be pretty dang stupid.
They could have taken there whole draft and they still would be a better team next year. We are and will be playing for 2nd place in the east for a long time. Hopefully belicheck will retire after the 5th or mybe 6th super bowl
I doubt they are willing to pay 28 million dollars in gurantee money to Mcfadden I dont think thats how the Patriots run their organization most likely they will trade down....
There is so much luck that goes into winning the SB you may be surprised. Having everybody healthy at the end of the season is part of it. Getting the right matchups. Even the Jets could luck into that game someday.
Trade down to who? Unless they want future picks (and they may) there is nobody to trade with but Dallas and they will never trade with them. In fact I doubt anybody will trade with them for anything. Nobody will want to put them in the spot of getting even better whether it's this year or in the future. They are stuck with the pick and will have to spend the money for it.
I really hope you're right. I am so tired of them suckering teams into stupid trades! Randy Moss for only a 4th round pick???!! The rest of the league should stop trading with the Pats, period.
