Next year is the year to judge Clemens. He will be annointed #1 going into training camp, he will also have more tools around him. Plus, the coaching staff has to stop calling Pennington-like plays for a guy who is not Pennington.
What does the play-calling have to do with Clemens' inability to put the ball in a receiver's hands? Clemens is going to get Coles killed, he has NO chemistry with Cotchery and he has shown no finesse on his floating passes. At least noodle-arm (see avatar) was accurate with his 10 yard bombs.
We all know that Clemens will be the QB in 2008, but I have some observations: He has obvious shortcomings that, if he doesn't improve them quickly, he will be out of the league and watching games with Tim Couch, Akili Smith, Cade McNown, and friends. His arm is very inaccurate, he can't read the blitz and hit a hot receiver, his pocket presence is awful leading to far too many sacks, and his decision-making is questionable. Other than that, he is doing fine!!!! The people defending Clemens by pointing out the Jet shortcomings are right about the shortcomings - the OL is shaky, the running game is inconsistent, the defense is bad. However, these shortcomings existed at the beginning of the year also and did not suddenly appear when Clemens took over 5 games ago. The bottom line is that the Jets' problems had nothing to do with the QB. And I firmly believe now that the Jets were and will be a better team with Pennington as the QB. If Pennington played the game Clemens played today, he would be vilified on this board. The interception in the end zone was inexcusable, he missed open receivers all over the field, he couldn't throw a deep ball, he almost got Coles injured 3 or 4 times, and he couldn't get the team in the end zone against the WORST defense in the NFL. As bad as people say Pennington was, I challenge you to find any stretch of games where his TD to INT ratio was anywhere near Clemens horrific ratio. I understand that Pennington is going elsewhere after the season. But I have serious doubts about this team's future with Clemens at the helm. Pennington will go somewhere and lead that team to the playoffs. Clemens, I fear, is taking the Jets nowhere. I hope I am being premature and impatient, but I just don't feel he is the answer. As for drafting a QB in the first round, that would be idiotic. The offseason coming up is going to be the most important one for the Jets since 2004 and maybe as far back as 1997. The Jets need to use this offseason to upgrade the OL and the DL. Skill players mean nothing if the OL and DL are weak, and the Jets OL and DL are horrible. It's time to clean house and get a new LG, RG, and RT. It's also time to find a NT and some edge pass rushers. If the Jets can OL can open some holes and protect the passer, it would be amazing how much our RBs and WRs will appear to have improved. And if the Jets can get some run stuffers and pass rushers on the DL, it will be incredible how the LBs will stop getting pushed around and the DBs, where we have obvious talent, will look very good. As for Clemens, I'm not sure that all those fixes will make him into a winning NFL QB. I know that Pennington would succeed behind a rebuil OL and defense. OK, I'm ready for the barrage.
I agree, especially with the bolded part. The playcalls were very penningtonesq today. But i have been bitching about the lame gameplans on offense and defense (pre-bye) since early in the season. A lot of the CS inadequacies were evident to me back when the leaves were still on the trees, and mostly green. The coaching flaws were just more blatant today.
I don't think he suks at all. He's a young QB. That's what a young QB usually looks like. He makes alot of nice throws. He doesn't suk at all,,, that's BS.
WHat in the hell aspect of Pennington this year would lead anyone to believe that? Clemens may not ultimately be the answer, but he is young and shows upside. Pennington is all he will ever be, and has shown, no PROVEN on the field that he is worse than Clemens. There is no reason to believe that Chad can go anywhere and be successfull. None. He was horrible this year. Clemens has been inconsistent and was not good today. But I do not think that the verdict is on on him yet, but it is with Chad. He is done. Period.
What the fark are you talking about? Please! Even if i were to give Clemens the benifit of doubt,he would be LUCKY to have the success Chad has had as a Jet. As it stands now,Clemens does not deserve to be mentioned int he same sentence as Chad until he proves otherwise.
Purely based on performance from what I've seen of them and not potential, I'd rather have Chad for the first 3 quarters and then Kellen for the 4th. Chad can't do it late in games with that arm if the Jets are behind. Kellen has the ability to run a good 2 minute drill. I don't think Chad does.
Clemens has twice the wins Chad has as a Jet this year and the only win against a team not named Miami. Chad effectively played himself out of a job on a team with a QB that you think sucks. Thinks about that.
Kellen looks like the QB that we all want to see when the CS calls plays that are Kellen type. That is what we saw the second half against Baltimore. Vertical passing downfield with some zip. The majority of the passes he threw today were passes designed for Chad. When you are on the 20, Kellen should be throwing to receivers in the back of the end zone. That is what I am waiting to see (if he has time to throw).
I have been in the camp as a "Chad Lover" and I still think most posters on this board gave him way to much blame...this is why as a fan of Chad's I hope he ends up on a team that he can go somewhere with....with all of that being said...... I think some of you are being a little tough on KC. He is actually growing on me. I think we need to seriously consider who our back-up QB is going to be next year, but give the kid a chance. He still may be the real deal.
I'm gonna go ahead and give the win vs Pitt to the defense. I don't know man,i'm just a fan of Chad. I'll have to live with the need for change, and maybe i'll see next season that it was the right thing. But when these folks around here start sayin g that Clemens is a better QB than Chad, they need to be corrected. because that is not even close to true. Could be in the future, who knows.
Right now both Chad and Clemens stink, at least Clemens might have a future in the NFL and it's probably worth finding out. Not meaning to be harsh on Chad, it's not his fault his shoulder was wiped out.
I hear where you are coming from on this and it bothers me also. Here's where I think we have a slightly better situation than the teams you mentioned: we didn't spend a first round pick on Clemens. Therefore we have the ability to cut and run as soon as we make a reasonable determination that Clemens is not the guy, say game 9 next season. I also agree that a QB usually shows he can play in the NFL by his 6th start or so. Assuming he has a decent line in front of him. That's a big qualifier in this case. I think Clemens is doing very well for a guy who is spending a lot of him time running for his life. Obviously he could be doing better, but it's not clear how much. Anybody who thinks a 2nd year Tom Brady would be doing anything but dusting his ass off a half dozen times a game behind this offensive line does not understand NFL football. As I've said before I truly believe this management team and coaching staff bought us a 3-10 record through inadequate preparation this past winter. I think the coaching staff has compounded the error this season by playing it safe on all too many occasions, thereby limiting the chances that this team had to rise to the occasion at hand. I wish I felt more optimistic about Mangini and Tannenbaum than I do at the moment. The problems there are three-fold: 1. The 2006 Miracle also included some very unfortunate decisions, that in hindsight limited the Jets rebuilding process. The trading of a 4th round pick for Kevan Barlow is a perfect example there. 2. The 2007 Management team clearly did not understand where the Jets actually were in terms of talent. That's the only thing that explains the trade-ups on draft day, the acquisition of Thomas Jones and the trade of Pete Kendall. The muckety-mucks literally did not have a clue and so they stomped in a great big circle this offseason and brought us back to where we were at the end of 2005 instead of building on 2006. 3. Terry Bradway still haunts the Jets by his presence in the organizational meetings. It's his fault that the original talent base of the Jets deteriorated, largely because he consistently devalued the offensive line, both in his draft decisions and in free agency. Now we have as a main component of the secondary collapse of the Jets a failure of the offensive line. Just get rid of the man. He really does not understand NFL football at all and as long as he is part of the braintrust we will not recover.
Funny - I watched the last two games with my dad who has to be 65 or 70 and has been watching the Jets since they were the Titans and that's exactly what he says - "This Clemmens sucks..."
Are you kidding? Please learn something about this game or never come back to this site. You have no clue....none at all, and now you're showing everyone.
