Here is the mock draft top 7 in this weeks The Sporting News 1. Miami Dolphins - Glenn Dorsey DT LSU 2. New York Jets - Quentin Groves OLB Auburn - He was made to play in the 3-4. And by that we don't mean a losing record. 3. St. Louis Rams - Ryan Clady OT Boise St. 4. New England Patriots - Chris Long DE Virginia 5. Atlanta Falcons - Brian Brohm QB Louisville 6. Oakland Raiders - Darren McFadden RB Arkansas 7. Cincinnati Bengals - Keith Rivers OLB USC
The Sporting News has us picking 2nd? Highly unlikely... No way McFadden makes it past the Falcons. Dunn is or is almost Dunn, and while Brohm may be a good QB, he's not at the level at his position, maybe not even close, to McFadden.
the falcons have norwood who has been very good when he gets carries, and they are starting chris Redman at Qb, plus their coach was brohm's coach in coillege, not unreasonable. Every year one big name talent slips, Leinart, Quinn, etc. McFadden might go top 5, he might not, he's no lock though.
Jake Long die? Cause thats the only way he drops out of the top 7. Oh, and McFadden doesn't fall that far, I don't care what anyone thinks. A team will jump on him for BPA reasons.
why does he have the patriots taking a DE? I mean their line is filthy and their LBs are a real concern. Wouldn't Laurinaitis or another LB make more sense? Even McFadden, DE is the least of their worries
Adrian Peterson was injury prone in college. He had all kinds of collar bone issues. McFadden doesn't have those issues, and has shown more versatility than Peterson. The guy can line up anywhere. Groves has been all kinds of disappointing this season. I'd like to see some kind of numbers for a guy I'm going to take in the top ten. Talent should come with some kind production, otherwise you get stuck with Kyle Boller. -X-
Agreed. I've been watching the SEC games w/Auburn and I keep asking myself, "what am I missing here w/this Groves guy?" He looks very slow off the snap in a 3pt stance and even slower when rushing the QB from the standup. I dont see him shedding any blockers whatsoever. When I watched Maryland games a couple of years ago, I always asked "who is this Merriman guy?, he's all over the field + lightning fast" If Groves is there in the late 2nd round, that is the appropriate value spot in which to draft him.
He's been pretty bad for Auburn since they moved him to that "rush linebacker" spot. I think Groves is going to pull a Quinton Moses and slide farther than most people think, definitely not as far as Moses, but I still think Groves will slide. Gholston and Long would both be upgrades for our defense.
Yeah, I agree that Gholston and Long would be great additions to this defense with a couple of stars/future stars already on it. I think ya gotta go with one of the two. Long would be nice to have because he would be a tremendous leader for our front 7. Plus he has the non-stop motor that could possibly transfer to other dplayers.
...well Groves COULD help the pass rush, but there are other players that will probably be more successful than him.
He also dislocated 3 toes this season and it's showed in every game. At the beginning of this season the guy was absolutely dominant. He almost single handedly won them the game against South Florida. Not only that, but he's one of the best pure athletes in this draft and he's a top 3 pass rusher at his best. He'll remind everyone the kind of prospect he is at the combine I think.
Dont think that is going to happen. Falcons are 3 right now & not going to win anymore games. Matt Ryan of BC will be there for them to take - if not then Brian Broehm of Louisville.
Brian Brohm is going to slip out of the Top 10. Woodson, Ryan, and probably Brennan will go before him.
