I keep reading peoples comments about our strength of schedule being so much more difficult this season. This is incorrect. Our actual strength of schedule this season has actually been slightly easier than last season to date. We've played 4 teams with a winning record and our opponents have an overall record of 70-74 (.486). Last season our actual strength of schedule was .487. Code: NE 12 0 BAL 4 8 MIA 0 12 BUF 6 6 NYG 8 4 PHI 5 7 CIN 4 8 BUF 6 6 WAS 5 7 PIT 9 3 DAL 11 1 MIA 0 12 The problem is we're losing the games we won last year.
You have a typo in the records, but your point is valid. As a side note, does anyone know if there is a website that tracks strength of schedule for all the NFL teams? I like check where we stand in draft position and that is the first tiebreaker.
Strength of schedule is a myth ever since the realignment, and subsequent scheduling effects years ago. There's no way to determine whether you have a fair schedule, due to the fact that you're getting two particular divisions each year, on top of your own, regardless of your performance the prior year. This year we drew the AFC North, and the NFC East. Before a couple weeks into the year, one would think our schedule was ridiculous. Pittsburgh, Cinci, Baltimore, Dallas, the Giants, and Washington all looked like playoff games, on top of New England. 14 weeks in, half those games are teams who are laughable at this point. Of the two other games in the season, one is usually set up as some sort of "rivalry" game. This year happens to be Herm. In previous years it's been the Raiders. There is no formula for making a balanced schedule. Expansion of the league assured that. (BTW: My post is in no way against you, because your point is valid. I'm just debating the inevitable responses stating that you're wrong.)
Actually the only difference in schedules between your divisional opponents is the two teams you play in the other two divisions in teh AFC. You play the teams who finished at the same spot in their respective division, ie Tennessee and KC, NFL Doesnt schedule it by rivals, this isnt college.
Just to correct your error. The other 2 games are based on what place you finished in, not rivalry games. The Jets finished in 2nd last year so this year they would get KC and Tennessee. Next years schedule: NE x 2 Buff x 2 Mia x 2 at SD at Oak Den KC at SF at Sea St.L Ari at Cincy/Balt(whomever finishes 3rd) Ten/Jax(whomever finishes 3rd)
There are a number of reasons why that have been discussed at length in other threads. I think maybe we need at least 10 days to prepare for a game instead of 6?
Fair enough on the last two games. I thought there was more of a rivalry thing going on, but that's okay, it still doesn't effect the overall schedule much. It still doesn't change the fact that SoS is a myth. My bad on the error though.
This is terrific info & sure destroys all the moaner & groaners who claim we are playing the worlds hardest schedule this year which is the reason we stink
Nah ur wrong about the Herm comment. We play KC because they finished 2nd in there division last year & we finished 2nd in our division last year. There is no "special" rival game in the NFL
Thanks for reading the rest of the thread Champ. It was only said twice, and I even responded before you posted the post before this one. And you wonder why no one listens to anything you have to say?
Whether you believe in SoS or not, Miami being 0-12 and us playing them twice throws the entire formula out of whack.
The sched goes 6 games against our div, 4 against an NFC div, 4 games against an AFC division and 2 games against the teams that finished in the same place as us in the other 2 AFC divisions. Just b/c you finish in last one year doesn't mean you get an easy sched the next year. In each div every team plays the same sced except for 2 games- the 2 games that are determine by what place you finish in. The difference btw the 1st place sched and last place sched is just 2 games and b/c the NFL is so unpredictable sometimes the last place sched turns out more difficult than the 1st, 2nd or 3rd place scheds. Yes I got your point and agree, this is not all towards you it's for the thread I just happened to reply to your post.
See this is where you erred & what I was replying to. Of the two other games in the season, one is usually set up as some sort of "rivalry" game. This year happens to be Herm. In previous years it's been the Raiders.
I know what you were responding to genius. It was pointed out before you did, twice. I even responded that I accepted my correction, before you posted your post before the one where you corrected me again. Had you spent 13 seconds actually reading further into the thread without jumping on the reply button, you'd have seen it. Instead, you simply wanted to jump on another of my posts. No problem man. Good points. It really is all luck from year to year.
Because we have more Mangini players on the team this year? Anybody who thinks that what happened to the Jets this year was an accident does not understand NFL history very well.
