Mike Shanahan with the best QB from last years draft in his second year starting and a top 10 NFL D is out of the playoffs. Shaun Payton in one of the easiest divisions in the NFL, last years coach of the year with a healthy top QB is out of playoff contention. Jeff Fisher who is argued as one of the best coaches in the NFL will be lucky to make the playoffs this year and if he doesn't it will be the 4th consecutive year TN doesn't make it. Herm Edwards took over a 10 win team and in two years has them at 4 and 7 in the midst of a collapse from contention.

Herm really should not be in the same category as Shanahan and Fisher, because he's just not that good. And the KC collapse is only partly his fault, the talent on that team was withering when he jumped ship on the Jets. He's just not very good at maintaining a talent base long-term so if you hand him a declining team it's kind of guaranteed to go downhill from there.

This is about the best post I've seen on these boards in the last 2 months. I could quibble over 1 or 2 of the details, but from a big picture standpoint it is dead-on. Under Bradway/Herm, it was the same mistakes year-in-year-out. I don't expect a young FO/CS to make all the right moves from the word go, but I do expect them to learn from mistakes and correct them at the appropriate time. The bye week was one of those times and the offseason is another. Let's see where things stand at the end of next season. My guess is the tone of conversation around here will be significantly improved.

If they are not much better next season, then you can add another tombstone to your sig.

Why did Herm jump ship here? Fact is KC had a lot more talent than the Jets did when Herm took over and he also had a very experienced GM with the same two off seasons we have had here. I only bring up Herm becaause Mangini replaced him. Shanahan and Fisher have done nothing, NO who everyone praised has done nothing, Chicago went to the SB last year and isn't going to make the playoffs.

This was a very flawed team when Mangini took over. You hate his draft choices, I love them so far. Fact is if Clemens turns into something real good Mangini is going to be here for a long time and if Clemens turns out to be a bust Mangini is going to have to be very lucky to stick around past year 4.

This is exactly right. The same thing happened with Chad at QB. They cannot make adjustments and get outcoached every second half.

Shanahan replaced Kubiak with Dinger, that is the problem in Denver.

I don't think Mangini should go, but Shotty and Sutton need to go.

Clemens has been much better in the 4th quarter of games than in the first half of games.

We had a easy schedule this year too. Look who we lost to the Bills twice, the ravens, Eagles, Redskins, Bengals. Thats six losses to weak teams. All games we could have won and last year we would have pulled out most of them. This year we didn't pull out any of them and thats the difference.

We were also playing an injured QB (excepting the Ravens, where WR miscues cost us the game) We should have beaten all of those teams, and add the Giants to that list...

Even if Clemens is better, the offense put up 3 points vs. Washington, 3 points vs. Pitt, 0 vs. Dallas, 20 against Miami (but only 1 drive was over 29 yards). We have been a terrible second half team and I look at halftime adjustments to explain that.

There seems to be a sense through this thread that the Jets are playing better now???

Guys... the depressing thing is that 2 of our pathetic 3 wins have been against the 0-12 Dolphins!!!

I loved the win against the Steelers but I have to see them being really competitive in these last 4 games and coming up with some wins before I will feel better about our Jets. And they better be competitive against NE. If they can't sack up and not get blown out by those cowards that's going to be disappointing.

His rating seems to dictate otherwise. I'll concede that he's put a few good drives together in the 4th and at important times no less, but his numbers are garbage and he's still having trouble finishing drives with td's. On a team that sunk 6 weeks ago it's not such a big deal, but it will be next year.

I don't think I have argued that the QB play the Jets have gotten this year is anything better than terrible whether it's Chad or Clemens. That said, Cemens has been much better at the end of games than the begining of games and he put together some very clutch drives down the stretch of games.

To say that Clemens is garbage shows a total lack of what he is up against. As a young inexperienced QB he has shown nice pocket presence a nice compact release and a good live arm. He has also shown himself to be stronger than he looks when getting knocked around. He hasn't been particularly accurate and he has been a little jumpy with setting his feet which might account for the accuracy? He has not been garbage at all he has been what he is a very inexperienced NFL QB thrown into the fire with at best below average talent around him.

We don't know what we have with Clemens yet but we do know that Chad after two shoulder surgeries isn't a quality NFL starter anymore and he was outright killing a team that needed much better play at the position to turn some of those close losses into close wins.

Nobody said Clemens was garbage, I said his number are garbage. I also stated the same thing you repeated at the beginning of your post. I know he's lead some nice drives at clutch times in the game, but even those drives aren't yielding touchdowns. The knock isn't really on Clemens though, it's more on the CS. They're the ones that seem to come out flat after the half, not just the team. The QB's rating mirrors the teams preformance on the field pretty much all year, starts out ok and falls on it's face in the second half.

You think inheriting a broken down QB may have an impact on that?

I've been referencing Clemens QB rating, not Penningtons. But I see you point.
