Have you read the story in last week's SI about this cornerback from Kansas? He's a shutdown corner for 10-0 Jayhawks. He stands 6' 2" and 205 lbs and a real ballhawk. Now I have to say up front that I've been screaming for nothing but linemen in next year's draft, but I'm having second thoughts. IF the Jets can do some damage in FA along their front seven (Hayneworth? Suggs?), it might not be a bad move to find an opposing partner for Revis. Then the Jets would have 3 out of 4 secondary positions set with young impact players. I like the idea of completing at least one unit on this team. Also, having to face Randy Moss twice a year, we do need to get some height in our secondary. I don't profess to be a college fan, so I would be interested in hearing your opinions.
Wrong Forum? He's a nasty corner -- he also plays wide receiver for the Jayhawks, so that means he has good hands/ball skills. If he slips into the mid second round, I wouldn't mind taking him, especially if we pick up some more picks some how. I wouldn't like to see us take another corner in the first round, but if Talib runs well at the combine, he should go in the first -- unless he stays in school.
sounds like a player, but we just drafted a "shutdown" CB with our first pick in last yrs draft and I think we should concentrate on NT / DE / OLB / RT / LOG before we go CB.
IF we were not going to draft a NT/DE/OT/OG with the first pick I would MUCH rather this guy get the pick than the RB. Dyson absolutely stinks and we need another shut down corner to compliment Revis. I wouldnt be all that upset. But we still need to seriously shore up the lines.
I agree. If we can get an edge rusher for the D-line that would go a long way to helping the secondary.
We'll be picking much too high to settle for Talib. However... If we trade with Dallas and pick up two first round picks, which I feel is a strong possibility, and as long as we pick an O-lineman, defensive end or pass rusher FIRST (No NT is worth a first rounder this year) I would feel great about stealing him late in the first round or early in the second, if he's available. Mangini is a D-backs coach, so having Rhodes, Talib and Revis on the same squad would play to his strong suit. If we do pick him up, Dyson, Barrett and Miller all become obsolete. (I'm pretty fond of Hank Poteat as our vet corner).
Mike Jenkins if we drafted a cb, that would be my dream.. hes super fast, hits hard.. great coverage guy and can play special teams..
Totally agree there, that's been my thinking since they switched to a 3-4, yet still, no dominant pass rusher. As for Talib, I wasn't big on him coming into the year with the way Bowman lit him up a year ago, but he's come back really well this season. He, Antoine Cason, and Jenkins like Tight said are all in it for the top 3 CBs taken. They should all go before 25, probably Cason first, then Jenkins, and Talib right after. Could see Malcolm take over the top spot though with some good workouts though.
I think we should look at getting a CB but not early on in the draft. We should see if we could find some type of sleeper that could develop with Revis
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie 6'2 182 4.3 speed out of Tennessee State right now he is in that 3rd round range.
He goes to a small school and this is a very deep draft for corners, he also isn't a very good tackler and makes some stupid mistakes, he'd probably take some time to develop, late 2nd early 3rd sound about right.
