How do you know there are no real threats on offense? No one knows what any of our skill players are capible of doing with the support of a dominating line on either side of the ball. For all we know Kellen could very well be the next Favra but we would never be able to tell this at this point. He has no time to throw the ball or excel at being a QB. The same with the RBs on our roster. Leon is obviously VERY talented but we have no idea what types of great plays he could be making if our Oline were on the level of say Denvers oline, or the Patriots dominating Olines. And we will not know what Mcfadden can do for us either! 'IF' he is the real deal when he gets to the NFL he will only have flashes of what he can really do if we don't commit to MAJOR work on the Oline FIRT AND FOREMOST(this includes depth at the positions)
I swear, if Bill Belichick was a pastry chef, he'd probably find a way to make chocolate eclairs out of turds.
Amen brother! If Tangini doesn't do anything else this year but build both our lines into LOS-controlling machines, they will have accomplished all I expect of them in the near-term.
Just watch...you just know that if the Pats pick before us, they'll pick whoever we were going to, and if they pick after us, they'll pick up someone that will probably turn out to dominate us. Such is life as a Jets' fan
And if they pick Mcfadden so be it! Unlike the Jets, they can utilize his full potential. Once our oline (depth and all) become solid and dominating at the line of scrimmage then and ONLY THEN should we be thinking abou that great skill player that every ones talking about in a particular year.
I can't find a player that high INCLUDING McFadden that fits our needs on this team. We need to trade down.
Really? I am sure at least a couple of teams out there could use the pick. I am not much of a draftnik so I couldn't tell you, but I would be surprised if someone wasn't interested in a top 5 pick. Probably top 3 way we are playing. We really need bodies instead of a body.
Trading down from #5 or so is the way to go this time. I have to admit that we did well in the last draft, even though we traded up (something I rarely think is prudent... see NY Giants reaching for Eli Manning as an example of what not to do), but it worked for us this last time. We need so much still.... if we wind up at #5 or better, we really need to convert that into multiple draft choices. Think of how many Leon Washington's might be out there at #95 or #142 or #185 or whatever.
Yes we need to fix both lines,, everyone can see that but this team is also in desperate need for some playmakers. We are in no position to pass up the best talent in the draft, especially considering the fact that there is not going to be anyone in the top 5 that fills a need on the line and won't be a major reach. Trading down is not as easy an option as most of you make it out to be, if there is a team that wants to give us a bunch of picks than obviously that would have to be considered, unlikely though.
That won't last past the combine at his size and speed. He's a tweener: too small for a 3-4 RE or 4-3 LE and too slow for a 3-4 OLB or 4-3 RE. He might bulk up enough to play 4-3 LE in a good scheme and turn into a good player but anybody taking him in the top 10 is going to regret it in a huge way in a year or two. 15-20 might be ok.
YES! We need to trade down and stockpile picks. The jets need a talent upgrade at SEVERAL positions, namely OT, OG, NT, DE, OLB and WR. Don't forget about WR. I hope they make BRAD SMITH the backup QB next year because he is worthless as a WR. Get rid of Hobson, McCarens, Pennington, Poucha, Clarke, and Vilma. Get some picks!
Yea, I know the lines need to be worked out...you can't read this sight without seeing someone type it over and over again in most of the threads. I watch the games too. All the same, I still don't think we have any bonafied superstars on offense.
Look at the teams that need Qb's and look at what is coming out in the draft. Colt Brennan can be had in the second round. Nobody is going to give us what this pick is worth to move up. We have to use that pick unfortunately. I would like to trade down but there will be no takers this year!
Can one person please find me ONE team that will trade up to us for this pick? Please go through all the teams in the league to see who will come up for a Qb when there will be 7 or eight good ones this year plus guys like Pennington and Mcnabb on the market for teams ready to win now! Yes we all know we need players and would love to trade down but there is nobody to trade with. Colt Brennan in round 2 or Pennington for a Third is better than coming up to get a Qb this year!
Don't be so sure about that, how often do you see teams trading out of the top 5 these days? Pretty much never and the few times I could think of that it has happened it is almost always a team going to the top, most likely for a QB. I think teams have gotten smarter realizing that the team that trades up into the top 5 is always on the short end of the stick.
The Patriots have the 49ers pick. If McFadden is there when they pick they will take him. I assure you if they have a two headed monster of him and Maroney with that o-line and their receivers it is game over for the rest of the league. No way he slips past Ne or Oakland.
If he can do that at 270 or whatever, then he just might be a legit 3-4 OLB. He'd need to do well in agility drills and the vert (for explosiveness) too. I doubt he runs a sub-4.65. He's nowhere near the athlete Merriman was/is and he doesn't strike me as a fast guy.
I don't know about that...He's an All-American first teamer as of today and he NEVER quits and plays through the whistle. He reminds me of a younger version of John Lynch, except he's not a safety, he's a d-lineman. If he can play that hard EVERY play in the NFL, he'll be successful. When the o-linemen start to get tired, he'll make them pay, because he is so conditioned for his size. He never quits and his character and heart alone get him into the first round. The guy knows football, he has it in his blood. He has the athleticism to be effective in either 4-3 or 3-4 in the NFL. Long plays the exact same position that Chris Canty played while he was at UVA. Canty has at least 30 pounds on Long, but Long was much more effective. I'd be very happy to see someone with Long's combination of hard work, leadership ability, and athleticism on the Jets.
