Having watched Tui at Camp, I was not impressed. Of course, he was rarely given the opportunity to work with the #1 or the #2 teams very often. Last summer, it was Penny and Clemens, almost exclusively, and Tui was an afterthought. But he was never a factor, IMO... not to say that he couldn't be with a little work and as much time as Clemens got under center.

We might end up in a position where we have a Reggie Bush / Mario Williams kind of debate on our hands.

To this day, I think the Texans got the better of that deal.

I would take Chris Long even with McFadden there.

Get your bottle of liquor ready because I have a feeling Tangini will disgust us all with his pick of a defensive player that does not fit the 3-4 scheme!

I think it is highly dependent on whether Penn takes the 2nd string job with open arms. If he does take it and is willing to re-structure, I would keep him.

If this information were also used to our advantage than he possibly could be traded. I think he could start for a team with a very physical defense and a good offensive line and I think he would do very well.

It really comes down to what falls off the laundry line after the season is over. If he is unhappy about being benched and wants out and it is made known; one could expect him to go June 1st. If you see the "Back-up job might not be so bad" campaign then the Jets are trying to trade him.

Right, because the defensive draft picks so far have been completely bad fits for the 3-4, right? Name me one. He's been trying to fit existing players who are bad fits, I'll give you that, but every defensive player drafted in the past 2 years have been directly suited to the 3-4.

It is going to be pretty funny when Chad Pennington leads the Vikings to an NFL Champoinship his first year with the team. While the Jets get their star rookie RB Mcfadden severely injured in the second game of the season because the Oline still can not open holes and block for the running game. This results of course with the Jets ending up with a 4 and 12 record for the year.

Remember to bump this thread when Chad hoists up the trophy please.

I have been trying to explain that just because we need defense does not mean we should take a defensive player with the first pick. We should take the BPA because no one fits the 3-4 that hight. The best player will be Mcfadden. We could have 10 picks if we trade Vilma and Chad to get the players that fit our scheme.

And if it doesn't does that mean we get to harangue you annually for being so horribly mistaken?

So, basically, you're going to be starting McFadden threads every other day for 6 months, right? Just because they choose a player other than McFadden doesn't mean he's going to be a bad fit.

How about we take our high first round draft pick and trade down to someone and pick up multiple picks instead. I'd rather have more choices of players than a wider selection of just one. One guy is only going to do so much for this team.

I totally agree. Jones is a perfectly good RB if you give him an O-line that can blow holes open. The problem with our O-line is they don't punish and dominate, they merely hold their own (sometimes barely) on a run.

WE NEED DOMINATING LINES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL, DAMNIT! I don't want to hear any more talk of drafting one swinging dick who's not a lineman! I don't care if he's superman, unless he can contribute to that basic need (the lines), I don't want him! We go nowhere until we can dominate the lines of scrimmage.

Don't believe me? Go back to the basics and study the great Vince Lombardi. Everything in the world revolves around the lines, everything.

Great thread here, guys.... really entertaining and thoughtful. Seriously, I appreciate all the great comments and even the humor.... every post is a gem.

That's actually a great idea. This seems to be a pretty deep draft. Worst comes to worst we trade down and acquire another 1st in next years draft... seems like that works for some... other... teams in this league.

Yeah, unless that team dispatches spies to video other teams' plays and then has to give up that extra 1st Round pick... hahahahahaaa.... :breakdance: :pats_suck:

I think they are giving up their 1st round pick for the team. Which will probably be the 32nd pick; overall. They still keep the 49ers pick which has turned out to be a sweet deal for them. It sickens me how everything just continues to break right for the Pats no matter what.

Isn't every running back good when there O-line blows holes open for them? Shouldn't the measure of a RB be what he does with what he has to work with?

Not to get down on Jones to much, he's a quality RB, but by the time this team is ready to make noise he'll be on the downside of his career. Don't mistake this for a pro-McFadden post either, I just don't think Jones is a factor at this point in the Jets rebuilding process.

McFadden would seem quite human behind the Jets O-line but you'd have to think that the FO would have the sense to build around a guy that seems to be as talented as he is. I think thats part of the problem here...there's no focal point on offense...no real threats. The offensive line is average to poor most of the time and the team has no identity of that side of the ball. At least on defense we can see exactly what it is they're trying to do.

Funny that... I was just in San Francisco before Thanksgiving for work and my boss who is a big Pats fan wanted to thank San Fran fans for their team helping out the Pats draft this year. They should end up with a top 5 pick themselves. Pretty sick stuff.

    word.

and actually, if we manage to beef up the DL his size shouldn't really be an issue. that seems big enough to play well as a 3-4 OLB (provided the aformentioned comes true).

I will not start one Thread for this. Can you find me a player other than McFadden that fits our scheme that should be taken with a pick as high as ours? Can you find me a team that needs a Qb that will Mortgage their draft to trade up to us for a Qb heavy draft this year. We have to take the pick. If there is no 3-4 player available what do you suggest we do? Nobody is going to trade up to us. If we have to pick what would you do?

Nobody has to come up for a Qb this year. There are too many in the draft. Who else is going to come up to us and for what purpose?
