"The Miami Herald is reporting that Richard Sharpstein, a lawyer and family friend of Redskins safety Sean Taylor, said Taylor emerged from surgery "in better shape" and is likely to survive after being shot in his home early this morning.

The Herald also reports that this is the third time in a little over a week that Taylor's home has been the target of an attempted burglary. Per the report, Taylor's next-door neighbor says that someone tried to break into Taylor's home last weekend and again earlier this weekend.

It's not clear whether Taylor knows who was trying to break into his home or why, but Sharpstein said, "There were a number of people who were jealous of Sean's success."

This is sad news. I hope he makes it through. He is a beast on the football field. Toughest hitter in the game. God bless him and his family.

TAYLOR "CLINGING TO LIFE" by Michael David Smith

Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post reports that Sean Taylor's lawyer describes the Redskins safety as "clinging to life" after losing massive amounts of blood when he was shot early this morning.

Per the report, attorney Richard Sharpstein, speaking from Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital, said Taylor is "nonresponsive and unconscious" and the doctors are "worried about a possible brain injury or death."

Sharpstein described Taylor's family and doctors as worrying that Taylor may have lost oxygen to the brain as a result of blood loss from being shot in the femoral artery in the thigh.

"They're waiting to see if he comes to," Sharpstein said. "Right now he's clinging to life and we're all praying he makes it."

Ugh, what the frig. I'm glad his daughter wasn't injured, if she was there. Craziness. What is up with the gun chit, already.

That sucks, I hope he gets better. If his femoral artery even so much as got nicked he is very very lucky to even make it to the hospital.

It happened in his home which is even worse. It is not in a bad area.

Here is a pic of the house:

Wow this sounds like it's getting worse by the minute. As a Giants fan, it's my duty to hate him, but in a vacuum he's one of my favorite players to watch and as a human being I certainly hope he can pull through.

Old Cutler Road is in an older part of town, and not near the ocean. It's not Coral Gables or Coconut Grove in terms of real estate value. That size house in C.G. would be worth a helluva lot more money.

I just figured most athletes build new or buy newer. And, I think it is irresponsible of the media to post his address

not only is it irresponsible, but its illegal...Both intrusion and publication of private facts, which may be taken to court if he or his family chooses to do so....

the reporter will claim that the information was newsworthy, so it may stick

I agree, and I saw a few nasty posts on the Miami Herald page for giving out the address.

Who knows what goes into why people buy where they buy? Maybe that is where his gf grew up, or felt comfortable, or wanted their daughter to go to school. Miami/Dade has gotten to be a very crazy place since i left there.

When i first set foot on campus in 78, Ottis Anderson was the star on the football team. Schnellenberger came in the next year. It was a very different place to be back then.

I still have friends there and visit every so often, but it has become an abominable place to live. Maybe that residential neighborhood worked for them so he bought there.

GM, as Jetcane said, Old Cutler road is part of older Miami. Some of the older parts of Miami are very very nice. While the house may be 36 years old I can guarantee you very little of the old house remains.

I just googled the address and found pics of it on a Realtor site. Thought it interesting to see it. It is right across from Biscayne bay though. It may or may not have a view of it. I suspect not, being that it is less than 1 mill.

    QFT..........

No idea why they gave the address out as it certainly was not pertinent info.

OK...So it sounds like the Winter Park area of Orlando. Really nice, older houses.

I forgot that O.C. Road runs by the bay. It was most likely very damaged in Andrew and was rebuilt. That is almost a given for that area.

    and btw

I've been trying to post the updates as i see them, and just to clarify:

The Miami Herald has edited its story, removing a portion in which it was reported that Taylor's attorney, Richard Sharpstein, said Taylor emerged from surgery in better shape. That portion of the story has now been replaced by a paragraph saying that Sharpstein said Taylor "had lost a lot of blood and remained unconscious, possibly jeopardizing his brain."

The Herald has also removed a portion of the story in which Sharpstein said Taylor will likely live.

I heard on the radio that this was his second home invasion in the last eight days. If true, that's insane. But then, the reporting on this has been atrocious. Just go to profootballtalk and see the dozen stories, all with different degrees of seriousness. It would be nice to know that the news I'm reading is correct, and I have no confidence that it is at this point.

Yeah totally agree...even ESPN was saying that he could die because of the massive blood lost. So many conflicting stories,so sad for the families and friends....horrible reporting on this on going situation.

It does seem to be a dire situation medically right now, and the family has requested that info not be given out. there were reports that he actually flatlined during the surgery. At this point he does not seem to be out of the woods.
