Are you going to bash Brad Smith for dropping that CERTAIN TD catch? Be a different story if we lost wouldn't it? Maybe the problems not been JMac but the guy tossing him the rock?
No. Brad Smith has been horrid lately, but then again, he is converting from another position....JMac has always been a wideout....
^^ Maybe – but he’s the closest thing we have to a receiver between the plays that Coles is in the game.
Don’t get crazy now. Jmac can be forgiven for at least one of those drops in Baltimore; but in term of expectation and his performances or lack there of. Trash!
Ugh, what a douchebag. Justin McCareins was a starting wide receiver for about 6 years; Brad Smith was playing QB two years ago. Cut him some slack. And shut your mouth about Kellen Clemens.
Precisely. Which is why he shouldn't be used as a slash type player. Its possible he may become that type of player , but for now he HAS to play, learn and become better at one position. Jmac has always run routes well and has (or did) speed to get open. Reaching behind him for the ball is always a problem. I see Jmac as being one of KCs better weapons. What happened to Cotch last night? L. Coles 1 56 0 56 C. Baker 4 34 1 14 B. Smith 3 26 0 12 J. McCareins 2 22 0 12 T. Jones 1 7 0 7 J. Pociask 1 7 0 7 J. Cotchery 1 5 0 5 J. Kowalewski 1 5 0 5
(psst...that was about Chad actually :wink Here you go. Brad Smith is at best an average WR. That does not mean he can't get better. Hes a smart student of the game and a winner. But right now he has to learn the game as a WR. Thats MR Douchbag to you.
Brad Smith right now is a very raw and not a very good WR. McCariens is a very polished very bad WR right now.
I'll bash Brad Smith. He sucks. I don't care that he's a convert from another position. Cut him and get a new WR. J-Mac still sucks too. Cut him.
Smith is a good enough player on specials to not be cut. He is however at best a developmental project at WR and if he wasn't a good specials player probably would be on the practice squad.
Agreed...as it stands right now, we need a #3 and a #4...with our sights set on a new #1 within 3 years.
Agreed, Smith is just not going to get it done. I do not see enough in Smith to make the experiment worth it. JMac only looked decent as the primary target yesterday with the majority of balls thrown his way. He is not going to be anything better than a 3 at best, and when he gets the dropsies, it makes him a liability. Not worth the time. I can name SEVERAL #3 and #4's with other teams that would run circles around JMAC and still hold on to the ball. Smith should be done after this year. Fitz
Why do you ride JMac's jock so hard? (Related? Are you his agent?) I am not suggesting that Brad Smith played well or that his ability to or consistency in playing the #3 WR position shouldn't be questioned today. However, why bring that up in relation to JMac?...just because he justly received criticism for some horrible drops at critical times? (And, I assume your last comment is a throwaway as I think it is okay to expect WRs to catch balls that hit them in the hands.)
The ball that Smith dropped in the EZ was very catchable. Had the Jets lost, it would have been added to the list of drops that have victimized KC this season.
Because had Brad not made the catch and we went onto lose the game very few , if any here would bust his balls for it. JMacs drops are well documented , what I'm getting at is that certain players court criticism whilst others don't get any at all. I'm not a fan of Brad , not yet he has to do something first. JMac on the other hand has , albeit not on our team. How can a decent #2/#3 suddenly drop off the scale? Hopefully KC will suit his style of play better , and when he turns to recieve the ball its actually there. Yes I do ride his well worn jock
There is a big difference between a guy who was traded for (and given $7mm guaranteed) to come in a be a #2 WR and a 4th round draft pick and former QB trying to contribute in his second year at a new position. I am not saying that excuses B.Smith's drops, but it explains, what you perceive, as the lack of outrage. Look, I am over JMac. It was a bad deal at the time and his production (outside a few games down the stretch the 2004 season) has been non-existent. Some players just don't turn out the way you thought they would. He has had his opportunities and failed for too long to hope he becomes the player the Jets thought they were getting. Everything from here on out with JMac is gravy. Gus, just realize that JMac best season was 2003 (and didn't include a 100-yard game or a 1,000 yard season. JMac has had as many TDs (7) in 2003 as he has in his four years with the Jets. So, even a "return to form" would be 43 catches for 813 yards and 7 TDs. He was a product of a pretty good offense in TEN with Mason, a young Drew Bennett, Wycheck and McNair in his prime. I always thought it was questionable why the Titans chose to trade JMac over Bennett as both were up for new deals at the time. (Of course, some of that could be due to the Jets throwing a 2nd rounder their way.) I just don't understand why you are so beholden to a medicore WR. They are a dime a dozen in the NFL.
