I am a Miami of Ohio student and worked for espn during the game they televised wednesday on ESPN2, and one of the ESPN analysts was a huge jets fan... he said he thought we had no lack of talent but he doubted the coaching style... i agree thats true but we need to strengthen the d and o line... but he made a good point that we have been almost in every game...leading a few...and blew it.. besides that what problems do we really have.... we now have a qb with arm strength... do you you guys think our offense is strong enough as it is and we have enough talent to do something in the future? I dont think we are as far away from contending as people think... we just havent made the big plays
your are right at the end of your post. Big plays. We have no true big playmaker outside of special teams. No big time QB,WR,TE,RB on offense. No one instills fear on this team, maybe David Harris, but hes only played two games. The draft is coming, once Mangini has enough " Manigin Guys" for the "Mangini Team", we should see some results.
That is really starting me make gag. I'll apologise now , sorry. But neither did the Pats when they won their first superbowl. You don't need a team of superstars , you need a team that plays like a team and plays as hard as they possibly can. I'll take 11 guys on the field giving everything they've got over 11 talented guys putting in a shift. Maybe thats where the Jets have been going wrong.
Our biggest problem is that we are getting dominated in the trenches. When we run the ball, we get absolutely no surge at the point of attack (thus our running backs are getting hit, initially, at or behind the line of scrimmage) while the opposition is driving our defensive linemen 5 yards off the ball. We are in dire need of a "Road grater" (or two) on the offensive line and a massive run stopper (read BIG BODY) in the middle of our defense. Without those two things, we'll never be a true contender.
It depends what you consider contending? If it's a 9 & 7 10 & 6 type team that can compete for a wild card not far. Competing for a title years unless Clemens is outright great and can be built around.
Ha.. I was about to say exactly the same thing. I would just add that if we could get a dominant defense which I don't think is all that hard with this year's picks and the willingness to participate in FA and making some wise trades, it could be sooner.
In all honesty this is what it takes to be a contender.... 1) KC must emerge as a legit QB 2) solidify D-Line 3) OLB Pass Rusher 4) Fill LG and RT on O-line 5) Develop or add top CB ( Miller or draft pick) 6) One more offensive weapon It looks like alot, but this team is not many players away from being a legit contender....our team is not that bad...most of our losses have come due to #2....the rest just contribute enough to give us a 1-8 record
The Bears proved that against the Pats in SB XX. Their D was totally dominant against the entire league. Ryans new look 46 and schemes just blew everyone away. Now the vogue is 3-4 , and teams are all trying to imitate the Pats D. I just wish could do our own thing instead of always trying the tried and tested , but too late formulars.
NT, Drob to end LOLB/Pass Rusher (Chris Long/Terrell Suggs????) Stuckey in the slot (if Healthy, and a young fast guy on the outside) Develop Bender, Replace the remaining OL spot....(prob guard) 1 good offseason, One season to get 10 wins, the offseason after to build depth
By then we will also need a franchise RB. As good as baker is he won't last that long , so a TE that can also stretch the field.
Jets and contending don't really go together. Every few years we get close enough. Really contending for a title seems unlikely. I am happy just to have some excitement. I have given up the idea of the Jets winning a SB. It is not a big deal for me. Just compete on Sundays, that is all I ask.
At least 2010 if they hit a grand slam HR with EVERY draft pick they select. If they do not hit grand slam HR with the draft picks it will be later then 2010
We're a world class management team away from contending for a super bowl. Things don't happen by accident and 2005 and 2007 are as indicative of where the Jets are as 2004 and 2006 were. When we find our Scott Pioli or Bill Polian or Ozzie Newsome for the front office and match him with a Tony Dungy or Brian Billick on the sidelines we'll have a real shot at a trophy. And no, we won't find a Belichik, because like Bill Walsh he's a unique talent.
If we were to buy Suggs (which of course we won't do because we would have to spend some money) and draft Chris Long, pick up another LB with out second round pick and maybe another CB we would be well on our way.
A few years ago during a Gregg Williams-era Bills game, John Madden made a comment about teams that consistently lose by a small margin. Madden said that when teams are repeatedly up or down by a few points late in games but can't pull out wins, it's the coach's fault. Period. So how responsible is Mangini for our slew of close losses this season? Personally, the Redskins game is the first Jets game this year that I recognized as a W that our coaches and play-calling turned into an L. I know our defense sucks; you all know our defense sucks; but the coaches know our defense sucks, too, don't they? Shouldn't they? Good coaches adjust; ours did not. Madden is a frickin' cartoon character, but that statement rings true, at least for the Jets this season. It's a dangerous indictment of Mangini, because it suggests that we are not 3 or 4 good players/plays away from winning, or a couple of "breaks" away from winning, as I'm sure we'd all like to believe.
Absolutely. Theres no doubt in my mind at all where the fault lies this season. Bad coaching. That is of course unless they are exploring options before continuing with the master plan
