OK. I do UNDERSTAND that statistically the Jets are near the bottom in offense and defense, and are 1-8. But lately, all you hear on Sirius, for example, is how awful the Jets are and that the New England spead against us will be the largest in history, we wont win 3 games, blah, blah, blah. Here's the thing. We are NOT that bad. We are HORRIBLE in the fourth quarter. Now it is easy to gang up on our defense and whine about D-Rob and the 3-4 and the NT and all, but I do not think that is the whole story. The truth is that we have been in every game except New England in the fourth quarter, and our OFFENSE has let us down. You cannot spearate offense and defense. Our offense has not made plays in the fourth quarter this year, and as a result our defense has been on the field so much that it tires and breaks down in the fourth quarter. I tried to find fourth quarter stats, but I suspect 40% or more of the rushing yards against us is in the fourth quarter. Same with passing. I am not saying that our defense is great, but they are better than the stats (yes even DVOA) are saying. It is the offense that is the root of our problems this year. Kellen is a big step forward fixing that. We need our offense to come around, and in the draft next year we need to address offense (other than the OL) as well as defense. When we can get back to balance between offense and defense, we will be a winning team. We are NOT that bad, and I am tired of hearing about it. In fact, we WILL ABSOLUTELY make the playoffs next year, and everyone will think it was an amazing turn-around. But it isn't. We have a team that is talented, but cannot afford to lose ground on the offensive side. When that happens, our defense (which is not that physical) tires and crumbles. But we are very close to winning, and the same team as last year. We are just not that BAD. We are UNBALANCED.
I getting tired of 25 years of loyalty to the Jets to watch a game on any given Sunday and want to puke. I’m getting tired of thinking that somehow my loyalty will pay off in a big way only to find out that god himself has a vacation home in Boston.

Yup that pretty much sums it up. My favorite part of this board this season is hearing everyone try to convince themselves and others that we aren't that bad. I've got news for you all, WE ARE THAT BAD!
The best part of this board is people who thought we were going to be good this year actually getting mad now that we are 1-8. I don't know what people were expecting from this team.

Jets DEFENSE stinks no matter what quarter. Lucky for them there isn't a fifth quarter. The one O/T game we lost: The D couldn't stop watch if it ran it over with a MAC truck.
They are doing worse than I expected, but I am not completely surprised by 1-8. We did nothing in the offseason that should have gotten peoples' hopes up that high. A lot of Jets fans just set themselves up for disappointment.
With the coaches we have and the system's that they are using on both offense and defense we are definately a 1-8, going on 1-15 team. From what I've seen so far, they will not open up the offense and even though it will improve with Clemens, the defense will always collapse and lose us the game. Every team in the NFL knows by now, that they just have to run the ball up middle and they will get 200 yards easily. With the on-field mistakes, the big contracts to bad players and the free-agency mistakes to not sign players to fit the system and trade the ones that don't, this team is every little bit as bad as it's record.
We're not unbalanced we're bad. Period. If you don't get it now you will by the end of the year. And next year is going to be not much better barring a miracle. Teams that collapse like this NEVER get right back up. They always have some more sputtering to do before the nozzle gets put back in the balloon and it starts expanding again. I've lived through bad Jets teams before and I know what they look like. BTW, your point on it not being the defense, but actually the offense that is at fault is indicative of how bad the Jets really are, because there are a lot of people out there who feel like it's not the offense, it's really the defense's fault. What that should tell you is that both sides of the ball stink right now.

Totally agree. We are that bad, but I totally agree. It takes time to completely remodel a team. Herm inherited 2 ready to win teams. EM inherited Club Ed guys that get mad because they don't want to practice until you know something cold. Most people want the D built around Vilma, which is insane. The team is moving in a new direction. If it means getting a finely tuned team in the future, I'll be more than glad to give up a season or two, to do so. These guys are on the right track. Discipline is the key. They've had good drafts, they work hard and it will pay off as soon as all the whiners come to grips with accountability and a desire to be better. Last year was the old "these are not the droids you are looking for" jedi mind trick, due to the schedule they had. Nothing more, nothing less. Lets also not forget we have rookie coaches for the most part. They're making mistakes as well, but the overall effort and methodology is solid. Damn solid. Be patient. Most of the ass-hats whining about being tired of watching the Jets lose, have only been watching them lose for a few years.
That sums it up for me. I thought 7-9 was reasonable, but was way off base. I ddi not think Chad would colapse and hoped the D would build on thier strong second half, boy was I wrong.
