I don't see how taking a chance on Castro is any worse then shelling out millions of dollars for a guy that struggles to OPS 700 playing at Coors Field.
Mets Close to Deal with Torrealba: http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-spmets1114,0,2756128.story Stupid move. He had a .212 AVG away from Coors and was worse defensively than Lo Duca...I don't get it. Hopefully Castro's the starter.
I have no problem giving Castro the starting job to being the season. He will hit and give better D than Torrealba.
At least they're bringing back Castro. Should the Mets take a chance and offer Glavine arbitration to try and get a draft pick now that it looks like he's signing with the Braves?
^As 3rd as stated since we are bringing back Castro, the Torrealba problem is diminished, now we have to figure out what to do with Delgado, since he is declining due to age and which pitchers we have to overpay for
There really isn't anything to be done about Delgado, they've got to eat it this year and hope he's at least better then he was last season. There's no way anyone would take him unless the Mets are paying most of this years salary anyway, so what's the point?
Fuckin Glavin..... good riddence Glavine Closer To Returning To The Braves Posted by: Gary Grund in Tom Glavine Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that SP Tom Glavine’s agent Gregg Clifton met Wednesday with Braves general manager Frank Wren over lunch in Phoenix, and Wren reiterated his desire for Glavine to rejoin the team. Rosenthal also adds that two other National League East teams — the Phillies and Nationals — are also believed to be interested in Glavine. Glavine earned $10.5 million last year with the Mets. Ken also notes that the next step belongs to the Braves, who probably could ensure Glavine’s return by offering him a one-year, $8 million contract.
I will be really, realy excited if/when Glavine starts against at Shea. That'll be a fun reception. This time last year (almost exactly), the Mets were signing Moises Alou. Now? Yorvit Torrealba. Yikes.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3112042 I like Torrealba. He's gritty and clutch. Two qualities the mets lacked down the stretch.
ask anybody who watched the Rockies last season. if most of his RBI's came in big spots late in games to drive in tying or go-ahead runs what would you call that? Nobody is accusing him of being David Ortiz, he is what he is, but considering for two years the Mets have gone on stretches where they couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat, having a guy like this on the team, even low in the order sure isn't going to hurt. Name me one clutch hit LoDuca got this past season.
