This guy has missed one game for us since he came back from the 'Skins. ONE. There seems to be a general sentiment on this site that the 28 (29?) year old is past his prime and injury-prone. Chill on the LC-hatin', y'all! That bell-ringing two weeks ago was just the gong signaling the end of the CP era. Coles' best days are still ahead of him. He's got about 12 more concussions to spare before he's too Chrebeted to be effective. I have a feeling we'll be using him more as a deep threat or a Marvin Harrison-esque sideline tactician now that KC has the reigns.
Should we go out and make big signs? Call in to a talk radio-station? Wash his cars? How are you envisioning that we should show our collective support?
We should support him by trading him to a contender in the offseason. I would love for Coles to be here when this team is ready to compete again but the ugly reality is he will be past his prime. It is better to trade him a year to early as opposed to a few years to late! We can still get good Value for him.
Any Jets fan that hates on Coles is a moron. He's a top 3-5 WR in the NFL, I wouldnt trade Coles for anyone, and I mean that. Anyone.
coles is a very tough guy, that?s why he doesn?t miss any games. I?m sure he would have played on Sunday but the Doctors and Coaches did not let him go out there. He is banged up a lot, he just doesn?t show it on Sundays, but as his body gets older, that gets more and more difficult. See him miss a game may be a very bad sign. It?s not that the guys here belive he doesn?t have much left, cuz he?s getting old. I think many here fear, that he can?t continue to take that many hits week in and week out, and still go out and be a great WR. It?s not his age, it?s the number of hits, that worries me. And Coles often said, he doesn?t wanna play till he can?t walk anymore. I think 2-3 more seasons and he?ll retire.
Oh my God. I don't hate Coles, but he's not a top 3-5 receiver in the NFL. He's not even in the top 10. He's almost 30 years old, he's banged up...he's never had a serious injury, but he's body has been through hell after all of the poundings that he takes. The NFL is a fast league and in order to stay fast, you have to bring in fresh legs. I know that Coles is fast, but I take any of the guys listed below over him in a heartbeat. He's a tough player that can take a hit, but a lot of guys on this board overrate him because he's a Jet. A top 3-5 WR? Do you watch any other teams play? 1. Randy Moss 2. Steve Smith...with a QB 3. Terrell Owens 4. Reggie Wayne, he's surpassed Harrison who's "in his prime" 5. Braylon Edwards 6. Plaxico Burress 7. T.J. Houshmanzadeh 8. Chad Johnson 9. Joey Galloway (still the best deep threat in the NFL) 10. Larry Fitzgerald
T.J. Houshmanzadeh, Braylon Edwards and Larry Fitzgerald aren't a divas at all...they shut up and play the game. The other guys might be, but the job done, don't they? Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot that at 5'10, Coles can "go over the middle and take a hit". That makes him a top 3-5 receiver in the NFL. Coles is more of a diva than any of those three listed above. He needs to stop complaining about stuff that he can't fix and play.
T.J. & Braylon have already exploded on their team (past/present)....fought with coaches and Qb's...I'll give you Fitzgerald is a tough guy....but he's always getting hurt so thats useless.
bahahaha....i love coles and hes a great receiver, but hes getting to be past his prime....average number 1 receiver...great number 2 guy
Only 3 of them, but all of them have at least 4 inches on Coles. I don't want to offend any of the Gang-Green posters that are past their primes...I'm still fairly young, and I'd like to see young talent brought in, especially at the skill positions. It's a man's game, not an old man's game.
My NY Titans throwback jersey is a COLES jersey. I never had a Coles jersey, even though he was one of my favorite Jets. So, I am totally in the Coles camp. I think him and Cotchery are a very good tandem. Coles is an elite WR who has unfortunately spent a lot of time with teams with less than desirable QB situations.
