Yes and did you know he is the first and only NY Yankee star to leave NY of their own free will? Or to put it another way, to give up? It has never happened before.
What about him? They didn't make him an offer. Same with Reggie, same with Winfield, hell the same with Babe Ruth. There has never been anyone. You can even say the same with Arod because he says that when he opted out that didn't mean he didn't want to play for NY. He won't get away with it though as he knew full well when he did he was walking away as far as the Yankees were concerned.
Incorrect. The Yankees offered Pettitte an almost identical contract to the one the Astros did, $30 million over 3 years. Pettitte didn't like that they were slow with the negotiations and chose to leave.
We all know he didn't deserve it in '05 and MVPs are great but when you drive in ONE run in 16 postseason games then you can see where the problem truly is. Just a few clutch hits from our "best player" and we win each of the last 3 series we lost but of course b/c ARod had an MVP reg season he didn't need to hit so he is immune to criticism, we should have bowed dwn to him for giving us so many great memories in june and July. screw Championships it's alot more fun atching guys win MVPs then do nothing in october. The Yanks didn't show enough inital interest, they get involved late. Petitte left b/c of that.
Do you ever tire of sounding like a broken record? If Jeter doesn't ground into multiple double plays this year do we beat Cleveland? Unfriggingbelievable. You don't even care how foolish you sound anymore, as long as you can fire off on whomever you feel like. It's very amusing to see you get on my case for being sick of Chad Pennington, who is far less successful in his overall career than Alex Rodriguez, yet you spew on and on about ARod every day and his "one RBI, blah, blah, blah". As for your truly ignorant comment that "we all know he didn't deserve it in '05", you're wrong, as usual. You're probably the only Yankees fan, and one of the few non-Red Sox fans who believe there was someone more deserving.
BTW: How about we stop putting words into Pettitte's mouth. He said he went to Houston because he wanted to play closer to his family. You can assume whatever you want, but the fact is, Andy said he wanted to be around his family more.
I sound like a broken record b/c folks like you keep spouting off misinformation and keep defending a guy like ARod who was an embarrassment to the organizaion in october. So Jeter had ONE bad series! ARod has been atrocious the last 3 1/2 and he was bad THIS postseason despite his enormous production of 1 RBI and as bad as Jeter was he still had as many RBI as the great ARod. it is funny how you defend ARod who has done nothing but hurt us come postseason while you bash Chad who elevated this franchise when he took over. Chad who put his career on the line to try to win, Chad who doesn't care about individual #s but just winning which is the anti-ARod. it's funny how you'll take shot after shot at Chad who is all class and all heart while you'll never bash ARod even though he is the anti-chad.
Because I actually care about talent, which wins games. If heart won games, I'd be winning World Series. If it weren't for ARod, we wouldn't have made the postseason this year at all. But whatever junc. You just want to be right, regardless of how poor your arguments are. I tire of you.
We don't know we wouldn't have made the postseason w/o ARod. Sure he kept us afloat early but if we had spread his salary aroud to make us better in other areas maybe we stil make it? i know he was useless in '06 when we came back from a bad start but you forget that as guys like jeter, Posada and damon carried us. The bottom line is he doesn't get it done in october, never has w/ us except for 1 series and guess what? we WON that series! he's our most talented player, if he played like it in october we would have won alot more than we did. I don't gte a thril from watching ARod hit HRs, I get thrills from watching the yankees win and that hasnt happened since he got here and he's been a big reason why it hasn't happened. I always rooted for him and if for some strange reason he does come back I'll still root for him but I am frustrated w/ him b/c he disappears in october.
I really don't know why you refuse to accept the fact that we lost because of pitching and not because of Arod. There is no way a team can lose in the post season because of a single position player, unless of course they made 20 errors a game. You can also say that a lot of that bad pitching came from bad decision making by Torre. He could burn out the bullpen all year long and then when it came to the playoffs he would let the starters get knocked around like a cue ball before making a change. Just look at this year where he starts Wang in game 1 when he sucked on the road all year long and despite the fact that Pettite was our best pitcher the whole second half.
Uh oh. You committed a double fault! First you said ARod wasn't the cause of the latest collapse, then you said that Torre had a lot to do with it. The only reason you escaped a dreaded triple-fault was because you forgot to mention that ARod's postseason numbers this year (OBP:.353, SLG:.467, AVG:.267) were better than the almighty Jeter's (OBP:.176, SLG:.176, AVG:.176). Obviously, Torre's and Jeter's hallowed and storied history with the Yankees, and ARod's utter failure throughout his Yankee history, are the reasons we both made the postseason, and lost in the first round repeatedly. Just wait till he gets out of work and has a chance to Respond.
And you just know that was done with all the malicious intent I could muster! Shame I forgot about Jeter.
