I didn't realize it, but they have San Francisco's 1st round selection in this draft.

That mock draft has them picking Darren McFadden. Seriously. Holy fucking shit.

they're so good.....who do you think they'll draft? They don't need anything, maybe they'll pick a QB to replace Brady eventually.

Probably the best linebacker coming out.

They're not gonna draft a QB...you kidding me?

James Lauranitis from Ohio State is probably the most likely selection -- they'll most likely trade down and stock pile picks, as usual.

Stock pile picks? Didn't they only sign like 2 of the people they picked in this past year's draft?

They will choose the best linebacker cause that's the only position they are aging at, but I could see them picking a QB. Their backup right now is a joke, and if Brady gets hurt they are fucked.

Trade Down, and get two defensive players.. Jerry Jones has a hard on for McFadden, and dallas has two 1s..

Well, first that draft was spot-on. Really good assessments at such an early stage of the season. First, our pick. Chris Long is really becoming the breakout player of this year's college season. From everything I've seen and heard he could really be the real deal and the missing piece to our defense. Getting David "The Hitman" Harris and Darrelle Revis were two major pieces we were missing and we thought we solved the DE spot in free agency but we were wrong. This kid could become the game breaker we need on defense.

As for the Patriots taking McFadden... that would sincerely concern me. I do agree with the above assessments that the Patriots are getting too old at LB and they brought Adalius Thomas in as a band aid they brought in to get the championship ring this year. But he's old too, so is Bruschi and Vrabel. Additionally, the Patriots need Linebackers with silly names and Lauranitis would fit in nicely. So while McFadden would assure them another super bowl, they really need to think about the future of their LB corps because these guys are ancient, and one of them had a damned stroke!!! A STROKE!!! So, you get my point.

Also, anyone else agree that the Giants defense would be a brick wall if they got Dan Connor at LB? The kid is a beast and just broke all of Pauly Poz's numbers this weekend for most solo tackles in Penn State history. If the giants followed that up with a solid WR in the second round, they could really clean house on day one picks.

I'll pose this question before I stop ranting: Where do we go with our second round pick?

Something along these lines would be mnost likely.

No way in hell Pioli and BB draft a 1st round QB and commit tons of money to him. They wouldn't even do that if they NEEDED a QB.

Likely trade down, or take a RB or LB or DB....depending on what's on the board....I'm inclined to say it will be a defensive player.

Depends what we do with the first round pick, but I'm thinking Red Bryant.

I don't want to take a mediocre defensive lineman in the just because he's big. We need to get the BEST player that we can with our first pick. Wheter it be Darren McFadden or Chris Long.

Maybe a guard in the 2nd, if we don't sign someone in free agency/Bender doesn't work out.

We need offensive weapons, and defensive players that can stop the run. So many choices.

I wouldn't mind taking Eric Young if he is there in the second.

Not sure why they would do that, they don't really need anything, but their linebackers are getting old, so they might as well take Lauranitis and get prepare for the future

They do it every year. Trade down in the first and pick up a first the next year. The fact that they have no needs is precisely why they will do it. Defer the pick until when they really need it and let it appreciate while they pick up depth.

I concur. Jerry Jones has a hardon for Mr. McFadden, so we may even be in a position to deal. I do however, think that if he's there we go for McFadden or Long... but right now I'm torn because we don't really have a threatening running game and we don't have a defensive line that can pressure the qb or stop the run. Sooo... I dunno, what do you all think?

That's their MO. They will use it only if the don't get a "good value" offer for it from other teams.
I think their preference would be to gather multiple picks with it, though.
By keeping a fresh flow of solid young players, you minimize the "weaknesses" that develop each year wiht age and free agency. 3 good players are better than 1 great player.....and the pats would rather fill their "great player" quota with proven veterans than untested rookies...they don't like to invest big contracts to highly touted draftees before they have even done anything.

The Patriots are going to have a top 3 pick. Look at San Fran's schedule. St. Louis will get a win against them. It's not fair! It's just not fair... (sob, whimper)

The only reason I don't love Long is because we have two solid ends (though Ellis is getting old) and I think it'd be better if we get a big NT and move D-Rob over because Ellis/Coleman/D-Rob is a nice 3-man rotation.

The Pats will probably take a corner, especially if they lose Samuel.
