Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville said the move will help Groves make the jump to the NFL, where he is not likely to play as a traditional defensive end. "He's played some linebacker, but what we were doing was lining him up at defensive end and standing him up and dropping him to play coverage," Tuberville said. "Now it's just on the other side. He'll be on the tight end. He'll drop from there and play run from there. "If it's a running play, he'll be taking the tight end on. I think he's probably better blitzing from standing up than he is down (in a stance). It will help him on film in terms of being a standup guy, because that's probably what he will be doing in the NFL."
I don't know if anyone saw the game today, but he was completely dominant today. Unbelievably good against the run and pass and had a huge sack at the end of the game to prevent Wake from winning. Wake is certainly not a joke oponent either.
It was an awesome sack, where he chased down Skinner from the opposite end of the field, but it didn't prevent Wake Forest from winning... Swank's missed field goal prevented Wake Forest from winning.
he took some pounds off, i think he wants to be a 43 end. he?s listed at about 280, thats the absolute minimum for a 34 end in the league, and i think he playw with a lot less now. With Ellis we already have a undersized bookend, you can?t play with two of tem. there?s a difference between College and NFL
At 6'5" 285, Ellis is anything but undersized. Long probably lost weight to make himself more marketable in the draft. The fact is, he already plays in a 3-4 system and is completely dominant.
look at other 34 DEs in the NFL, Ellis is probably the smallest, most of them are former DTs at least noone has 2 DEs under 290 in the 34. If we get Long, we probably get rid of Ellis

I'd be okay with getting rid of Ellis -- we need to get younger and faster -- plus Ellis isn't helping much agains the run: 296 today against the Skins.
i wouldn?t mind getting rid of ellis, too. but with a top 10 pick, we could do much more than replacing a solid Player with a younger one. i say get McFadden!!!
I want McFadden just as much as you do, but I don't think we will finish worse than at least 3 teams (Fins, Rams, Falcons)/have enough "ammo" to trade up and grab him. He's absolutely amazing -- so fast and powerful -- he could be doing what Adrian Peterson is doing right now for the Vikes, for us.

If you think about it, the Falcons will take a QB (Brohm or Matt Ryan), the Dolphins should either get a QB (Brohm or Ryan) or a Franchise LT (Jake Long) and the Rams have Jackson and used a 2nd Rounder on his Backup this year, i don?t think they?re going for a RB again that high. I think the chance, that noone of these teams takes McFadden, and he falls to us at 4 or 5 is pretty high. Only problem is, i can see the Rams trade down and somone jumps on him. But thats far in the future. Let me dream for a while longer... I?d say, if you can?t get McFadden, trade down.
We can trade down with a team who wants McFadden, especially when Adrian Peterson is setting rushing records in his first year.
I dont know how accurate this is but one draft website said that if Mcfadden was in last years draft he would have been takin ahead of Peterson.
Not at his 275 at the NFL level. I just don't buy that this guy is heavy enough (290+, preferably 300), or that he can put on 15-30 pounds on his frame. He doesn't even play like a 3-4 DE. He's much better at disengaging blocks than holding them down like a true NFL 3-4 DE. His best bet in the 3-4 is as a DE/OLB, and I doubt he's a better prospect than Gholston, Groves, or Ellis there.
