I'm wondering where that value actually is. The Yankees always sell out. So do the Dodgers. I don't really follow the Mets but I bet their attendance is good too and will be with a new stadium anyway. Boston always sells out. Maybe the Angels.

Actually Arizona could find themselves in the Johan sweepstakes, they have so many young guys that are helping them win now that the young guys behind them are trade bait.

A-Rod has less post-season RBI than Dice-K the last 3 years combined, yet he wants $350 million.

A-Rod a Mud Hen? Triple-A Toledo makes a playful offer

    November 1, 2007

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) -- Alex Rodriguez a Mud Hen?

Spurred by an offhand remark from George Steinbrenner's son, the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens want in on the A-Rod sweepstakes.

The Mud Hens playfully offered the prize free agent a deal Thursday -- a contract proposal that includes a bonus for hitting 75 home runs next year and leading them to 10 straight International League titles.

Rodriguez recently opted out of his $252 million, 10-year contract with the New York Yankees. That prompted Hank Steinbrenner, son of the Yankees owner, to tell the New York Times: "Does he want to go into the Hall of Fame as a Yankee, or a Toledo Mud Hen?"

The Mud Hens conjured up an offer to find out, said Jason Griffin, a spokesman for the Detroit Tigers' top farm team.

Toledo created a Hall of Fame plaque of Rodriguez wearing a Mud Hens hat and sent a letter to his agent, Scott Boras.

The deal stipulates that Rodriguez will have to compete for a spot with Toledo third basemen Mike Hessman, the league's most valuable player last season.

"Would your client be willing to play a different position?" the letter asked.

The fact that it became public Boras wants a minimum of 350 million for Arod (probably 400 from anyone but the Yankees) means one of two things will happen. He will either be hated by everyone else in baseball (if he isn't already) or he and Boras will be ridiculed forever because they can't get anything even close. I can just see Boars screaming "collusion" now when they don't.

Local newspapers in Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco said this morning that it is unlikely that the Cubs, Dodgers or Giants would make a run at AROD. This is getting interesting. Looks like it will come down to Angels or Mets. If the Angels and Mets OPT out, where is AROD going? He will have to have a fire sale at a greatly reduced price.

I think he has really priced himself out of the market. Even Boston most likely won't pursue him knowing the Yankees are out. They have no need for him anyway and their only interest probably would have been to stop NY. More so then what happens to Arod in this is what will happen to Boras.

By the way, this is exactly what Hank Steinbrenner predicted 2 months ago. There would be very few teams willing to spend 20-30% of their entire budget on a single player. How do you then negotiate with your young players when the time comes for them to get paid? Arod's salary can be an albatross around any owner's neck. Even the Yankees.

BTW2, here is another article where it seems Minaya is downplaying any interest by the Mets in Arod.

BTW3, I guess you can add Boston to that list. This doesn't sound like anybody with an interest.

"Some MLB executives have been skeptical that any team will give A-Rod a $300-plus-million deal. Red Sox president Larry Lucchino said on radio station WEEI Friday: "I also have trouble envisioning places where A-Rod can go. What teams have the financial wherewithal, as well as the specific need? If you survey the field, there aren't that many places. Now I know it takes only one other place, and there may be somebody out there who is willing to sign on to some astronomically long, burdensome contract."

What else is Minaya supposed to say now? BUT, Delgado has one year left on his contract at $16 million. Trade him to an American League team that needs a DH, even if they have to pick up half of his salary, saving them 8 million. Slide Wright from third to first. The bottom line is AROD is a perfect fit for the Mets. This is the top 5 of the lineup:
Reyes, Beltran, AROD, Wright and Alou. I bat AROD 3rd instead of 4th for added lineup protection from Wright.

I wouldn't bat Beltran 2nd...I'd move everyone back one and put in Castillo, or maybe whoever we get for Delgado. That way, the lineup's flithy 6 spots deep.

I'll buy that. Forgot about Castillo for a moment.

I don't believe any o these teams, they are all saying they have no intrest in the hope that he has no choice but to lower his demands. Arod may dictate the market but the teams dictate how much he is going to get paid. Besides my bet is Arod will be signed at the winter meetings in Nashville the 1st week of December. Boras likes to make a splash and that is the time to do so.

People with an interest wouldn't say that when Boras is the agent. They know better. Keep dreaming, Arod will not be with the Mets.

Boras will still be trying to find a deal for him at the winter meetings.

Haha...and yet another written piece of drivel about Arod and why he wants to remain a yankee.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/04/s....html?_r=2&ref=sports&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

This guy must be on the Boras payroll. What he fails to realize is that if the Yankees were to take him back now, after they have made their position clear 100 times, no other free agent or their agent would ever believe them again. The only way Arod could ever play for the Yankees now would be to play the first 3 years for 61 million dollars which is all the Yankees would have had to pay under the Texas contract. I can't imagine Boras ever going for that.

Is it a coincidence that the Boston Globe is reporting these rumors? If true it's just to piss on the Yankees some more. he has really showed he hates that franchise. He continues to say go fuck yourself to the team in the Bronx.

I love how Don says everybody else is going to have to pay 400 million but only 350 if your the Yankees. Maybe it's the other way around. No better way to get a no than to make an outrageous offer so that the team has no choice but to say no.

Of course it is 400 to anyone else. The Yankees would have only been an extension, anyone else is a whole new contract. And of course he won't get it but it doesn't hurt to ask.

There is also an article in the NY Times that says he still wants to play for the Yankees. Do you find that a coincidence? I already posted the link above.

Does this really sound like Boston has any interest? Of course it could just be smoke but you wouldn't think they would want to go out of their way to piss off his agent when they know they would have to deal with him if they really have any interest.

"Red Sox president Larry Lucchino said on radio station WEEI Friday: "I also have trouble envisioning places where A-Rod can go.
