One of the things that bothers me alot this year is this guy...

Last year he comes into a new scheme everyone writes him off, Hes a BUST we all say and what does he do.. 8 sacks surprised the mess out of EVERYONE...

So he gets his new contract in the offseason, fine I say.. He just had 8 sacks in his First year in the system, tally on 2 more for this season... 10+ sacks I predict...

I think he Has 1.. 8 weeks in...

Cut him, hes a waste ... WHat has he done... He got his new contract and bought a clone, cause that is not the guy from last year...

He's out of position in my opinion. Put him back on the right side. It's not like Hobson has any ability to play over there and do what an ROLB is supposed to do (i.e. rush the passer and anchor the weak side of the defense against the run.)

Was it Mangini, Sutton, Thomas, or Hobson that came up with the idea of putting Thomas on the strong side and why the hell has it lasted this long. ROLB is the pass rushing specialist in a 3-4 system and he was our best pass rusher last season.

Thomas is just not the level of pass rusher the Jets need. Quite frankly,8 sacks is about all you're ever going to get from him, and you can't run a scheme where pass rush is completely reliant on a guy like that. The Jets biggest priority this off season should be obtaining a top flight pass rusher through trade, draft, or free agency.

Meanwhile, there was a David Bowens sighting yesterday. It was good to see that guy get some snaps, and predictably, he was in the backfield. I never really understood the bizarre logic that has kept him on the bench most of the year.

He is known as a pass rush specialist. In other words...can't play the run for shit. He's a one down wonder. 3rd and long is his specialty.

As for Cactus Thomas...very disappointing...couldn't hurt to put him back where he came from and see if that helps.

Thomas never looked like anything at all until they put him at ROLB last season. Then they move him? That was a very poor coaching decision.

I've always thought his run play was fairly decent, I just don't recall ever seeing a 3-4 scheme function well without more than one pass rush threat. You can't build a scheme around a guy who has a career high of 8 sacks. More specifically, you can't go into a season saying "we're going to hope that this guy's unprecedented production continues." You MUST have a contingency.

If he's a waste and has done anything and you consider cutting him. You might wanna cut the whole defense.. What have they done?

Pass rushers can rush from anywhere on the field. You either got it or you don't. Thomas fooled many of you and apparently the coaching staff last year by compiling a few unblocked, coverage and hustle sacks together. That got him a new contract and some lofty expectations from Jets fans. This off-season we need to draft or acquire via trade or FA 2 3-4 DE/OLBs that can rush the passer. One to start opposite Thomas and the other to play behind him ready to start once the FO finally realizes their mistake. If we get 2 DE/OLBs w/ pass rushing skills we can move BT inside on passing downs and rush all 3 guys like the Giants do.

yeah then add a nose tackle and another corner, and a pass rushing d end and we'll have a pretty good 3-4...

Thomas and DRob are the scapegoats on defense IMO. Thomas was expected to become a leader, playmaker, and differencemaker on defense this season. Instead he's done absolutely nothing worth mentioning. DRob just stinks in the 3-4, and wasn't much better in a 4-3 either. That contract of his must either be reworked or he needs to be cut.

Looks like the cactus with eyes is back in it's accustomed place on the defense.

your right but we are going to come up short on the # of picks we have. We are going to have to unload some players for draft picks and quite honestly there is not alot a value in some of those players. Vilma's trading value went down. The DL players are worth shit and I don't know who would pick up CPs contract.

Abe put fear in the opposing teams' QBs. We need an Abe clone. I think that is the first and foremost task for these Jets in the off-season -- if that clone actually exists. Abe made the entire D better. Thomas is a back-up, at best. Everyone was surprised when we drafted him so high coming out of a small college, and it turned out that they had a right to be surprised.

Side note: Does anyone know if the case was settled, regarding his beating his girlfriend?
