Then we could call Mangini that nick name he had. We are seeing this season what type of coach we have and we need to dump him and get somebody who knows what he doing. We need our coach to coach like him and not the Pats coach. We need a coach who knows when to put our backup QB in and not 4 games to late.BOTTOM LINE we need a coach who who can COACH. Is that asking for to much?
We've played 3 teams with a winning record for an overall record of 29 - 30 (.483). I don't have the exact figure handy, but I believe that's pretty close to what our opponents winning percentage was last season and it's definitely a lot lower than our projected strength of schedule for this season. Pats - 8-0 Ravens - 4-3 Dolphins - 0-8 Bills - 3-4 Giants - 6-2 Eagles - 3-4 Bengals - 2-5 Bills - 3-4 The problem is we're losing the games we won last year. edit: I found our actual strength of schedule for last season. It was .487 which is actually slightly better than the actual strength of schedule we played thus far this season.
This isn't b/c of the sched, we are playing alot worse than a year ago. Our sched so far this year hasn't been very tough but we stink and we can't even beat the mediocre/bad teams.
Mangini handed Chad the starting job before training camp even opened. Then Chad was outplayed in camp by Clemens but remained the starter. All of the offensive woes this season extend from three basic starting points: 1. The Jets did nothing to significantly upgrade the offensive line in the offseason. This despite ample opportunity in terms of prime free agents and appropriately slotted draftable guards. 2. Mangini annointed Chad the starter without any competition. This despite his own pronouncement that all positions were open to competition. 3. The Jets traded Pete Kendall without a reasonable backup plan in place. Those are the things that sunk us on the offensive side this season.
Exactly. And Consider this.... If Pennington doesn't get rolled up on, in week 1, he probably doesn't cost us the last 4 games....and we are no worse than 500 right now, possibly 6-2.
Every potential weakness we all identified in the pre-season has turned out for the worse. Layer in Chad's play going into the toilet and we have a 1-7 team. I am not saying this is a great takeaway, but team's six losses (ex. NE) have been by an average of about 7 points. If you think this team's talent level is poor to horrible, you say it is good coaching. If you think this team's talent level is good to average, you say that is terrible coaching. The team has failed in almost every aspect of the game (ex ST which is good, not great) and I actually think the blame is equally on the talent level and coaching staff.
Now Bradway if you are going to hate, you have to add the terrible draft of 2007. You know the one where we traded up and wiffed on both the picks.................... come on now, if you are going to be a real genuine hater, really really go for it. end of sarcastic. Quick question............. How great was that vaunted Bills O-line yesterday? I mean they had 2 FA studs from last year starting. Jesus they pushed the Jets small d-line around all day yesterday huh.................... The Jets really screwed the pooch but not signing any of those super stars huh?................. hahahahaha
1) What prime free agents? While I understand it is the new market, you had average to good G and T getting all-pro type money. Let's say the Jets signed a guy like Dockery, what would Kendall have asked for then....$5mm? What apporpriately slotted draftable guards would be excelling as a rookie after 8 games? Justin Blaylock?
There were danger signs even last year. Of all the teams we played last year only 3 had winning records. NE, Indy and the Bears. We lost 3 of those 4 games and only winning against NE after our bye in what has to be characterized as a fluke. Our other three losses came against 7-9 buffalo , 8-8 Jacksonville and 4-12 Cleveland (when that game was crucial for us).
i guess another way to look at it (last seasons strength of schedule compared to this years) would be: those teams we should beat, all of a sudden are better than us(bills browns chiefs bengals titans eagles) while those we were viewed as even with, or behind a little, put too much seperation between us and them. i think white shoe willie proved we are going the wrong direction (whether he ment to or not), and the strength of schedule issue is a pile of crap.rebuilding or not... we are headed the wrong way. the 2004 debacle was not as bad as this! the "intended strength of schedule" (before season), does not reflect how good we should, or can, be.the "during the season" strength of schedule on the other hand does. it tells me we are falling behind.
It is coaching, unless you want to blame the lack of talent (more on the roster now than last year yet the team is playing worse) or just flat out refuse to believe that mangina and his staff are fallible.
not to mention that this seasons strength of schedule is skewed because of the undefeated record of the Pats, or else it would be even worse than last years.
Looking at the strength of schedule a year later is irrelavant. If your team was bad then the strength of schedule will look harder and if you were good it will look easier. What IS important is the "texture" of the schedule, the sequencing and sructure of the schedule. When in the season you play certain teams, where you play non-divisional games, etc....Last year we had a very good texture to the schedule: Tennessee early before VY was solidified at QB Indy and Jacksonville early ( we lost both but got them out of the way) And playing Indy close early gaves us confidence. New England AFTER our bye. We were super prepared for that game. And then all of our easiest games at the end: Houston, Green Bay, Buffalo, Minnesota, Miami, Oakland. It was a great schedule for us because of the way it was sequenced, not as much because of the strength of teams (though NFC North is way better than NFC East) This year had a horrible texture to our schedule, and against better teams to boot. I thought in preseason that there was the potential of a season that could get away from us and it turned out to be true. Next year we will have a good texture to our schedule almost guaranteed: AFC West and NFC West , Denver at home, AFC South away. We will make the playoffs next year. Almost guaranteed.
almost guarenteed? on the premice of schedule sequence? i just pray to god our tight wallet leaders buy something worth watching.
First eight last year @ Tennessee 23-16 New England 17-24 @ Buffalo 28-20 Indianapolis 28-31 @ Jacksonville 0-41 Miami 20-17 Detroit 31-24 @ Cleveland 13-20 This year Pats - L Ravens - L Dolphins - W Bills - L Giants - L Eagles - L Bengals - L Bills - L This team just isnt a good this year. Bottom Line- Mangini stuck with chad too long
Why do you keep repeating this? Chad thought he was good to go against Baltimore, and didn't look very hobbled the following week... After that, he didn't look hobbled AT ALL.... If Chad's ankle was still hurt he would not have been able to move as he had been able to... Additionally, how does a sore ankle explain him throwing 4th Q INTs every week, and making poor decisions time after time? It's just a foolish assertion...
I'm not a hater, I'm a realist. The 2007 draft WAS badly mishandled, as our record this year shows, with both lines sucking eggs and the Jets getting pushed around the line of scrimmage by the opposition. That said, the offensive woes come down to no improvement on the offensive line, in fact a decline instead, and Chad playing poorly.
