You experienced exactly what I did. It truly is a dark day for NY sports. I just feel the Yankees have been getting played like a piano on their deals recently. The New England GMs are far superior to the NY ones right now in terms of striking deals. Drastic changes need to be made to the Yanks as of right now because the "super lineup, power hitting, all or nothing" shit, isn't cutting it. They need to get back to the roots of the game and gets some players that like each other and will work as a cohesive unit. Look how close the Red Sox and Patriots players are (sure it's easy to be close when you win but...) That cohesion is absent with the Yanks and Jets.
cmon. youre talking about millions and millions of dollars here....do you really think he made his decision on the fans? because he got bood two years ago...it was for the most part a love fest this year at the stadium with A-rod...the MVP chants....the whole shit.
Exactly. The "best player in baseball" has to be the guy that gives you consistency...that comes through even when the team is cold. Look, being a Sox fan, I remember the days of Mo Vaughan and Jose Canseco....they would be the heart of the order through the season and put up great numbers.... then in the post-season, they were )'fer the series. They choked in the big games.....no thank you. I'll take a Mike Lowell type any day...a guy that does a serviceable, workmanlike job in the season and gets the job done in the playoffs also....for a hell of a lot less hype and money.
You other Sox fans who don't want him are absolutely insane. You're telling me you wouldn't rather have Arod at short than Lugo? Even if he doesn't hit in the playoffs, Lugo doesn't either and at least Arod would have a good-great regular season. Let Schilling go, try to keep Lowell, and send Lugo somewhere for the best catching prospect you can find. Then go into next year with the best rotation, bullpen, and now lineup in baseball. Ellsbury Youkilis Ortiz Ramirez Rodriguez Lowell Drew Varitek Pedroia Beckett Matsuzaka Lester Buchholz Wakefield Snyder Hansen/Cox/random FA 6th inning guy Timlin Delcarmen Okajima Papelbon That's title number 3 in 5 years, EASY.
take it easy on that best rotaion stuff devil....stud ace no doubt.....lets see a guy with 4.5 era as your two guy....a guy whos had nothing but mediocre numbers in his limited action as your 3....a guy with what 2. 3 starts in thye majors(I know about the no no) as your 4....and wake......just slow down....congrats on the series win by the way....as much as it pains me....you guys deserved it and all the tollbag red sox fans deserve their gloating period
Here are some options the Yanks might be considering to fill the 3rd base void. http://yankees.lohudblogs.com/2007/10/29/so-who-is-going-to-play-3b-next-season-4/
That's exactly what I am saying....and I can tell you why.... 1. As previously stated, he is a choker. For $30 million, I better not get a choker. 2. He has a negative impact on team chemistry. If you watch the Sox, you know that clubhouse chemistry is great and is one of their strengths. How much would A-Rod impact that? I don't know, but it certainly would not be a positive impact. 3. Let's say it costs $30 million a year to sign him. If they pay A-Rod that, and as a result do not go out and get Johan Santana later, or sign a solid catcher, or whatever, is it worth it? If you assume the Sox would not spend that $30 million at all otherwise, then go ahead and sign him. I'd rather spend my $30 million elsewhere though, given the choice.
My only hope now is that the fans turn on that "fat toad" playing short. He is as much responsible for Arod leaving as the fans were. Hopefully they realize it when they are playing in 4th place in the division next year and trying to get to .500.
Arod is the only one responsible for A-rod leaving. you guys are acting like the guys whose girlfriend tells him to beat it and he keeps calling her phone 9 times a day...why not make yourself an '80's "mix" tape and cry yourselves to sleep.
1. He's had 3 bad series'. Until the Yankee pitching fell apart in the final innings of Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS, he was the MVP of that series. And as I said, even if you want to assume he IS a "choker", how big of a step down is that from Lugo's lofty numbers? 2. Overrated. One guy isn't going to destroy the clubhouse. There are enough leaders on that team that it won't make that much of a difference. 3. Johan Santana will not see the free agent market until 2012 at the VERY earliest. If the Twins can't sign him, they will trade him, and no team is going to trade for him unless THEY can sign him. As for a solid catcher, there aren't any in the majors right now that are going to be available any time soon. The best way to obtain a good catcher at this point is through trade. A package of say, Lugo/Crisp/prospect with the Sox eating some of Lugo's money could probably get that done. Other than that, what do the Sox need? The rotation should have 4 starters 28 or younger next year, all locked up long term. The bullpen has Delcarmen and Papelbon who are the same way, along with other guys in the minors like Masterson, Cox, and possibly Hansen if he straightens out who should be ready by the time Guys like Okajima and Timlin move on. Center field, 2nd base, 1st base are all occupied by outstanding young talent for the foreseeable future, and right and possibly left are also locked up long term. If Lowell can't be kept, then 3rd base is the only area of need, and if he can, then everything is pretty much secured. The point is, this team is set for a good long time as it is. Great starting pitching on the free agent market is a thing of the past, and it looks like great hitting is headed that way. Teams lock up good young players, especially pitchers more than ever. The only way to acquire it now is through trade, so "saving your money" for that is foolish. Who are they going to give the money to? Guys like Kyle Loshe? Barry Zito types? The only impact player available this offseason other than Lowell is Arod.
Thank God for devil. Without 10P posting here anymore, and Cappy going pretty well silent, it feels like I'm in the room with a bunch of kids wearing helmets to keep themselves from putting their gray matter on the walls. At least there is one person who actually "gets it". I can't believe I have to find sanity in a Sox fan. The day just keeps growing darker.
He was willing to take $30-40 million LESS from Boston to leave Texas so he could win... The man wants to win, come on.
You could look at it that way, or you could look at it this way... Beckett is the best in the game right now. He's just on another level, and there's no one I'd rather have in the post season either. Matsuzaka was a rookie who was adjusting to a new league, new ball, and new culture. He still managed 15 wins and was 8th in all of baseball in strikeouts. Yes, he walked a lot of guys, but other than that he was pretty solid. In fact, he had better peripheral numbers than the Yankee ace. Beckett was worse last year than Matsuzaka was this year, and with a few adjustments, there's no reason to think Matsuzaka won't be very good next year. He showed it in stretches this year and he certainly has the stuff. Jon Lester is only 23 years old. He had a slow start to the year after recovering from CANCER, and pitched very well down the stretch. He was 2-0 with a 3.34 ERA in September, and in his last 8 2/3 innings in the playoffs gave up 4 hits and no runs. He's a lefty with very good stuff and is adding velocity to a fastball that already hits 92-93. Buchholz will be a rookie, but he might have the second best stuff on the staff after Beckett. He's already pitched a no hitter, and was very good in his other appearances as well. Wakefield would easily be the best 5th starter in baseball. He provides quality innings every year. I know it probably lies somewhere in the middle of my best in baseball prediction and your less optimistic one, but there's no denying that that has the potential to be an outstanding rotation.
there ya go. I only responded to your original post because you said "best rotation in baseball" a little too mtter-of-factly
2004? 2005....15 AB.......2H..5 K's...0 HR.....0 RBI....... BA .133 2006....14 AB.......1H.....4 K's....0 HR....0 RBI......BA .071 2007....15 AB........4H.....6 K's...1 HR......1 RBI.....BA .267 Since 2004, that makes him 44 AB.......7H........15 K's.......1 HR......1 RBI.......BA .159 You can have him for the money he wants. I'd rather spend the dough elsewhere is all. I think $30 mil should buy more. We don't need A-Rod to get to the playoffs. We can do that without him. What we need is guys that can win us the championship, not guys that hit below the Mendoza line in the playoffs.
Hey, it's hard for me not to be excited about the Sox right now. Not only did they just sweep the World Series to become the most successful franchise this young century, but they did it with a lot of youth on the roster and more on the way.
I'm with ya! The new players remind me of watching the Sox growing up, when they had guys like Lynn and Rice making a splash on the team. The young guys are very fun and exciting to watch.
