http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3082251 According to leauge sources it will be around 5 years at 30 million a year Very good news in my opinion:up:
If I were a Yankee fan, I'd be bummed. Tying up money for 8 years, no idea how A-Rod'll be when he's 40, and the city will be even tougher on him if he gets payed more.
There are only two teams in baseball that can afford this man, and they are the Yankees and the Red Sox. As a Yankee fan, I want to see him back in pinstripes. It's all going to come down to the best offer and I believe the Yankees can offer him the most money. 5 years at 30 million a year is a great extension and he would be dumb to not accept that extension.
And texas still owes money...So that's a plus. But this is just an offer...Still not sure if Arod would accept.
i wonder if that falls into the "windfall profit" category. unreal the amt of money swirling around here. he best be active in charity jil
I'm sure that's a decent starting point. The bigger issue than money, which the Yankees don't have a grasp on yet, is who will be the manager. He left Texas because of Showalter. I read where he thinks Girardi is similar. Girardi seem to be the choice from the most recent articles.
This really is not worth it. I can't take this headcase for another 8 years. I can't tolerate always trying to figure out, "Is A-rod's head in the game?" "How is his personal life?" "Does he get along with his teammates" "Do the fans bother him" These are questions that are never asked of anyone on a regular basis. It's not worth having his act on the team for that price.
The problem is you can't replace his production with any one single player so it will cost them more then 30 million to replace him and take 2 spots in the batting order to do it. If that isn't bad enough they have exactly 0 other right hand power hitters currently and none really on the FA market.
I actually think there are more, the Angels could if they chose, also probably the dodgers, and whoever buys the cubs, especially if it's cuban
A-Rod's not the one asking the questions. Not his fault that he can't take a dump without having it analyzed 6 ways from Sunday.
from Sundays New York Daily News, regarding Mets and AROD: Even at a mere $35 million a year for 10 years, it makes perfect sense, both from a business and baseball standpoint. First, the business end. Citi Field would be sold out forever. Met jerseys and T-shirts would be selling better than "Joba Rules" merchandise. SNY ratings and ad revenue would go through the roof. The city's back pages would be all Mets, all the time. New York, as it was in the mid-80's, would be a Mets town again. On the field, A-Rod would give the Mets a third baseman who can hit 50 home runs a year and actually throw the ball to first base. His presence would allow Carlos Beltran to blend into the scenery - which is how he would like it. It would allow Wright - who would move to first - and Reyes to flourish, while not having the pressure to win solely on them. A-Rod would also make the Mets an October regular. Sure, he may not get a hit in the playoffs, but at least the Mets would be there. And imagine the sting the folks in the Bronx would feel if A-Rod ever did in Queens what he couldn't do in the Bronx - win a World Series. The money? No problem. Carlos Delgado ($16 million), Pedro Martinez ($11), El Duque ($6.5M) and Guillermo Mota ($3.2M, good move, Omar) are all off the books after next season. Added to that dough is the $20 million or so a year Citibank is kicking in to have its name on the new stadium, so after this season, you're getting A-Rod practically for free, with money left over for other stuff like pitching. Heck, even Citibank wins, as its name would be associated with the most popular baseball player in the world for at least the next 10 years. Citibank Home Run Chase anyone? A-Rod sells himself, just ask Boras.
Yeah, but it's the Mets. I don't see him going to the NL under any circumstances and no matter how much money they throw at him.
I actually do agree with you. But EVERYBODY said the same thing about Pedro Martinez and Carlos Beltran going to the Mets.
I just think he wants the HR record more then anything and for a right handed hitter that would be much more difficult to attain in those big NL parks. That's the main reason I don't see it happening. Same reason I don't see him going to Boston with their Green Monster.
