we are going for a top 3 pick not top 5, partly because nobody hits the open cornerback like chad and the defense doesnt like to tackle anyone head on they apparently believe you should jump on and go for a ride if they even hit at all(dyson)

If Mangini replaces Chad now and they continue to lose, then who will the media and fans point to for blame??? The answer: Mangini himself! By waiting until the offseason to announce Clemens as the starter, it buys him a fresh start in the media/fans eyes' next offseason.

Always excuses when it comes to the Jets. Just get some balls and do the right thing.

If the Jets suck all season and Chad is a big factor in that, as he has been so far, the only person who is going to get blamed in the end is Mangini.

Think about it: the two huge failures on the Jets this season are Mangini's 3-4, which is blowing chunks again, and Chad's leadership which has failed in the second half of multiple games as the Jets offense gets shut down and he makes key errors.

I just can't see where Mangini is having any positive effect on the Jets at all at this point. They're losing because he has failed to assemble an effective defense and because he is staying with a QB who is crumbling repeatedly under pressure. That may be ok for an expansion team like the Houston Texans, but it's unacceptable for an established team like the Jets.

If it's a disaster somebody is going to get it in the neck, and Chad and Bob Sutton aren't going to fill that bill. They'll go anyway, but somebody higher up is going to have to accompany them. Otherwise the Jets will just go 5-11 or 6-10 next year and we'll get our sweepout then.

I agree, but how many of those QB's are there? 3? The rest are what most teams have to work with. So you can have a gunslinger who is hit and miss. Miss usually more than hit or someone like Chad, who is consistant and solid and a winner with a solid team around him. I'm all for getting the next Elway, but where is he? He ain't sitting behind Chad right now, I'm quite sure of that.

You really have to start to believe that Mangini can't stand Clemens for reasons none of us know. There is clearly no other reason not to start him now with a 1-6 record and already eliminated from the postseason. I've said it before, it goes back to last season when Clenes was demoted from second to third string. In Mangini's eyes he is either too dumb to play QB in the NFL or too lazy.

yup. All these people see us losing and think a QB change will make the team better. It won't.

The offense seems to love Chad. Has Chad had a lousy season so far? Yes. Will Clemens do better? No. Will QB change help the defense do better? No.

Many of you will be unhappy to see the QB competition in training camp btw Chad and Kellen this Summer...

Mangini is arrogant to the point that he will start Chad just to prove to the media and fans that this is his team and he does it his way. Unfortunately he did not learn what it was like to lose in Ne so he has no clue how to handle this situation.

Your standards on other QBs are way too high, and your standards on Chad are way too low. Yes, QB play in the NFL isn't very good, but saying that Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are the only QBs around who are playing at a high level (who would certainly be 2 of the 3 people you claim) is unrealistic. For one thing, there are QBs who aren't always high quality, but have had years that are - Marc Bulger, Drew Brees, Donovan McNabb, Carson Palmer, Ben Roethlisberger, Jake Delhomme, Matt Hasselbeck, Jeff Garcia, etc., all come to mind. Those were guys who you felt at least had a shot out there, and they all led their teams to 11+ win seasons. Every one of them has had a better year (often several better years) than any Pennington has had since 2002. You can now add Tony Romo to that list, and dare I say it, maybe even Eli Manning?

Pennington looked like he could have been one of those guys when he finally got to start. Unfortunately, he got hurt, and that ship has sailed. It's time to accept that and move on.

No the season is done. Its about looking towards next season and the draft. Do you understand that if we dont put Clemens in this year your dooming 08 b/c we have to play this kid eventually? Lets see what we got and make an evaluation from there who our QB going forward is. Going 4-12 with Chad is not the same as 4-12 w/ Clemens. Get this in your head. Chad is just a career average QB, thats it.

Don't count on it. I seriously doubt that Clemens is the QB of the future for this team as long as Mangini is the coach. I outlined the reasons above. If he were there would have been a competition for the job this past summer. Again, it goes back to last year. If he wasn't already playing for Carolina I would bet Mangini would bring back Vinnie to play over Clemens.

You might want to actually listen to what people say, rather than tell people what you say they think. Virtually no one has claimed that Clemens is guaranteed to make the team better. In fact, you're the one making the totally absurd statement that you guarantee that he won't do any better. The point is that without playing him you'll never know, and then another year is wasted. What is beyond dispute is that playing Pennington doesn't make the team better, and at this point is completely pointless.

Actually, quite a few people were at training camp this past summer, and they uniformly reported that Clemens was far better than Pennington.

Don't worry about that. We wouldn't beat Washington, Pittsburgh or Dallas if Brady or Manning were the QB with this team.

Bottom line is you dont draft a QB in the second round and never give him a shot. Clemens will get one this year or next. Its whether or not you would rather him play this year so you dont possible sacrifice next year as well

Sounds like Jerry Glanville's assessment of Brett Favre. We all know how that one turned out.

The whole idea of putting him in there to "see what ya got" is very much a "fans point of view" type of statement. Don't you think the coaches have a fairly on point idea of what they've got right now in Kellen. We know Clemens has the physical tools to play in the NFL, but I'd guess he's not there mentally. He could probably still learn a great deal from Chad from the bench. What makes you think we'd have a shot to win a championship if Kellen plays a few games here and starts all of '08? Very few rookie (in the starting sense) QB's do well. Big Ben is an example, but he came into a team with a very good line and had many other tools at his disposal. I don't think we should put our shoddy o-line on Kellen's shoulders right now. Let's fix that problem first and then see what's what.
