This is another one. Yes, the coaching has issues. There is some shitty playcalling. There is a severe lack of accountability. But it's not something that can be fixed right here, right now. This is our coaching staff. Win or lose. Plus, I don't think we're able to see either side of the ball's system working, since Chad is single-handedly giving games to the opposition. As for Graham, I'll never speak poorly of him. He plays just fine. Sadly, he's usually our most consistent player. You should never have to say that about a punter. Westhoff is the man. He was my choice to take over for Herm in the first place. Now THAT man is a coach.
Agree completely. But next to Chad, the thing that is annoying be most every week is watching TJ run into the back of lineman for 1 yard gains or loses, because lanes aren't where they are supposed to be. -Just me ranting (I agree with you Chad assessments, I just took the opportunity to air my other displeasures with the team)
See I was right. "Westhoff is the man. He was my choice to take over from Herm........" Now I feel bad about calling you out.
Huh? I wasn't even talking about Chad in my post, in fact I didn't even mention him once, I was talking about QB play in general, read my first post again, I already told you Chad sucks, that post was more in general what a QB needs to be successful. My post deals with most QBs however in Chad's case he is already damaged goods so that is a completely different variable altogether My post was more general than specifically about Chad, I already know that Chad needs to be replaced. However I do think people do give the QB too much credit/blame in general. And I think your attitude is strange in that just trying to find a scapegoat, Chad has sucked hard all year, but he isn't the only one.
We're losing just because of QB play?It seems NFL fans really do have the shortest memories of any sports fans..I can't believe the lack of intelligence some people on here show - Chad has had some bad games - 2 shockers really....football is the great game it is because every player on the field can be the difference...can make a big game changing play or make a game-changing mistake. I thoroughly believe that whilst Chad is certainly not a top 5 or even 10 QB..he doesn't have the arm strength and his decision making recently has been very suspect at times..he is a very capable NFL QB who can win us games if he has the team around him. The reason why we're losing and especially why we blew a 13-point lead yesterday? (musts for a game in the NFL) 1. Control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball 2. funnily enough very much related...RUN THE BALL WELL AND STOP THE RUN! IMO we have a good offence with 2 outstanding receivers that desperately needs some decent linemen to protect Chad and open holes for Jones and on defence? Well the whole thing needs sorting out...especially the front 7...whether it's back to 4-3 or new players I guess we'll see.
Wrong! Winning in the NFL comes down to the Line play in the trenches. Ask Elway who couldn't win until Alex Gibbs was the line coach and they got a running game, ask Dan Marino who never had a running game, ask Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson, Big Ben and every other sub par QB that has won the big one. Ask one of the best dynasties, the 90's cowboys. You have to control the LOS to win games. Hell even ask Peyton Manning, 48 TD's, out first round of playoffs. D line steps up in playoffs wins superbowl. If you don't know this, you don't know football.
I will take a 150 yard runner every day. You take the 300 yard passer. Look it up how many teams lose when they run for 150 yards and how many lose when they throw for 300. This is not MADDEN, it is the NFL.
You want to generalize then lets generalize. With a few exceptions if you have a shitty QB you have a shitty team. Dilfer- Played QB on a team with maybe the best defense ever Big Ben- Sub par ok says you. 90's Cowboys- Two words Troy Aikman Payton Manning- The Jets would be 5-2 with him. Also Chargers beat the Pats he does not win the Super Bowl. You want to generalize great you win in the trenches but you absolutely win shit with a terrible QB!
you actually need both, but regardless our line hasnt performed that bad....we just need to replace Penny with Clemens already. He just doesnt have it anymore fight in him
Nate Newton, Larry Allan. Check out how many times the Steelers win when Big Ben throws more than 25 times. Do you think Emmitt Smith is the greatest RB ever, or do you think the Cowboys Line was the greatest ever. Try the latter.
If you like the RB getting hit in the backfield by a D lineman, then year our line isn't that bad. Let me tell you how much confidence our HC has in our line. He has so much confidence that on 4th and 1 from the 3 yard line he calls a fade instead of a run up the middle. Yesterday it took two downs to get a short yard and even on the 4th down run, we only got it by 2 inches. The line sucks at run blocking.
hence the shotgun at well...dont need to worry about the drop back and you can see the rush much better...
My point was not to bring up every single aberration there is. There are many to refute either side of the argument. I know the trench argument very well as I argue it many a times. The Jets are a QB away from being decent. With good QB play this team is 2 or 3 games better. Pennington is completely shot............ However this poster continually says Chad is not the problem which I find laughable. As he clearly is a huge one.
What about the Chiefs line? How come they were not the SB champs at least 3-4 times like the Cowboys? How many SB wins do the Broncos have without Elway, with the same vaunted O-line? You want to have a circular argument lets have at it.
Before this year, I never saw Chad as a problem because he was winning...Its clear now that he has lost some fire, and alot of arm strength...checkdown after checkdown, week after week proves that there is something wrong. I just feel bad for him....his time as a starting QB is over, and its mostly because of his arm surgeries.
Terrel Davis getting his knee blown out might of had something to do with it. You cannot expect for a HOF QB to retire and throw in B. Greise and return to the superbowl. But in the superbowl, how did the Broncos beat the favored Packers, the O line owned Gilbert brown. I am not saying that Chad is not a problem. What I am saying is the entire offense the Jets have is the passing game. They do not have a running game and they cannot stop the running game hence they are 1-6. If we had any running game, a 10 point lead in the 3rd quarter would be enough. Also, look at how Cincy beat us, with great QB play or with controlling the LOS and running the ball. They ran it 41 times and passed 21 times. We will not win games with Chad or a 2nd year Rookie with out controlling the LOS. Brady would not have the stats or wins if you simply replace his line with the Jets line. He would be happy to be 4-3. You overvalue the QB position. If you control the LOS, you will get good QB play if your QB is average. If you don't you lose unless you have a HOF QB.
So wait a sec. You say it can't be Chad's fault, but one single player can make the difference in a game? Which is it then? Is it possible Chad is at fault, or is no one player solely able to affect the outcome of a game? Throwing picks in the fourth quarter, when your defense has given you the ball back with enough time to score, week after week, isn't affecting the outcome of the game? Seriously? See, this is the problem around here. People want to use every single one of their fingers to point at problems, but they want to ignore the clear one, sitting right in front of their faces. F CHAD PENNINGTON. I don't give a shit if the guy runs into burning buildings to save babies, it doesn't warrant him being an NFL quarterback. The guy has an arm weaker than my infant son, and his one "great" quality, his mental capacity, is shot to shit. The guy cannot lead this team to 7 points, much less wins. He is a problem that can be fixed right now. That's the point. Maybe changing the QB will allow some lanes to open up in the running game. Maybe not. Maybe the offense drives far enough for 3 or 4 drives to end in field goals, rather than punts. Maybe the result of the offense staying on the field for more than 3 plays helps the defense play fresh, giving them a chance to actually help us win a game. Maybe. I'm not guaranteeing anything. I'm saying maybe. Maybe Clemens is garbage, and we just suck that much more. Can it honestly get worse? The fact is, we know for sure Chad is NOT the future. Period. End of Story. So why is he still wasting our time, when the Heir Apparent is ready to go. I'm tired of this bullshit. Chad is garbage as a football player. You don't have to like that, but at some point, you're going to need to accept it. There is no better time than now.
