So what many have thought and heard from Tannenbaums comments recently. Mangini has made it clear. This is the week we find out, Pennington is being given one last opportunity and if he falters early then the Kellen Clemens era will begin. So here it is I will be cheering hard for Pennington and I really want to see Clemens play. But I will be sad honestly the second Pennington is replaced. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3072940 The Chad Pennington era as New York Jets' quarterback is a few bad plays away from ending. The former first-round draft pick has been told by Jets' coach Eric Mangini that he's on a short leash going into Sunday's game in Cincinnati, with last year's second-rounder, Kellen Clemens, ready to take over. Clemens built up his stock with an earlier performance against the Ravens, which featured a near fourth-quarter comeback in Baltimore. Pennington has six interceptions in his last three games and his limited throwing range remains apparent. Chris Mortensen covers the NFL for ESPN. Youth
Well, you know what'll happen now. Chad is going to have a career game, help the Jets wipe out the Colts, and that will be the end of the discussion until the end of the season. Sorry!
Rotoworld: Chad Pennington-QB-Jets Oct. 21 - 11:17 am et ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Chad Pennington has been informed by coach Eric Mangini that he is on a short leash in Sunday's game. Mortensen says the Pennington era is a few bad plays away from ending, and that Kellen Clemens' time is nearing. This makes Chad a risky play even in a terrific fantasy matchup against the Bengals.
This is probably overdue as three quarters of the threads on this site have been devoted to it. I just wonder what the new theme will be if Clemens sucks just as bad. I'm sure we will hear for a few weeks that Clemens didn't look as bad as his stats but then what?
Just thought I would add that I drafted Clemens in all of my leagues and have been holding him since day one, waiting for this moment. I've even thought about starting him today instead of Dilfer in one league, just in case. Okay, carry on with the serious discussion.
Colts? WTFO?? Anyway, they should put the kid in and give him the rest of the season. Mangini stuck with Chad and was loyal to a fault with him. Even if Pennigton has a career day today it will be the same old Chad next week.
All that means is that Chad will dump off even more to avoid any costly interception. We'll be down 14-6 or 17-7 at halftime, and because we're still in it Chad will be back out there in the 2nd half. That will repeat for a couple of weeks.
Can't say I am surprised, well actually I am, Looks like Mangini has some cojones. Well I hope Penny plays well and doesnt just do dump passes so he won't make mistakes, otherwise the Clemens era has begun...
So you expect our QB to have a great game and you hate that fact??? Chad won?t end this discussion with one good game. If this team doesn?t start winning, Kellen will get his shot. Do you think this was Mangini?s idea/decition?
First year starters often struggle for a few games as they settle into the job. It would be a good thing if Clemens got to play before he went up against the Steelers and Cowboys back to back or maybe worse, against the Patriots, Titans and Chiefs right in a row at the end of the season.
If Clemens isn't the goods, then we draft another QB and let him ride the pine behind KC for a few years. At least by playing KC, we'll have a clearer picture of where we want to go at QB.
Yeah, gotta figure this out sooner rather than later. If the Jets draft a top 10 QB next year he should be the starter out of TC though. It's a fallacy that QB's have to sit for a year or two to figure this game out. There have been many that were good to go right out of the box.
