I think that the slant is a big thing missing from our offense. Now I don't want to rehash the whole Chad debate, but he cannot throw the slant adequately. We have great receivers for it in Smith, Coles and Cotchery. When Clemens comes in finally, I think that the slant will be a game-changing addition to our offensive arsenal.
The slant would be an interception machine for chad. Coles is especially good at it, and i'm sure it'll be better utilised when we get Clemens.
Exactly. Not do-able with Chad, but we have great receivers for it and a backup QB that could do it well.
actually the slant is one of the throws he can make. it's a short throw. the problem is with no running game the slant is taken away by safeties closer to the line. the out pattern is the one chad gets killed on.
Hell no chad can't throw the slant. He couldn't get the speed on that throw to hit the receiver while he is open.
The real problem with Chad throwing a slant is that CB's can take a calculated risk that Chad will not be able to make the defense pay if they jump the route - or any other route that they know Chad can make. That's the problem with Chad - not the routes that he can throw, but the ones he can't. The biggest advantage you have as an offense is you know where the play is going and the defense doesn't. Some believe this is a lack of creativity on the part of Schotty. Watching Chad week to week I disagree. Chad's lack of zip on the ball limits what we can do and opposing defenses have been capitilizing. Bring on Clemens. I'll take his mistakes in this lost year for future gains.
I think that the slant is what he can throw. Most of Chad's big plays are right down the middle of the field.
You guys are kidding right, when Hackett was here CP was throwing slants all day long. It is a staple in the WCO which CP is best suited for.
Chad can do a slant(Short inside, faded out slant), but I don't think he can do long out plays which are pretty critical... and of course he can't do bombs, although not as critical still needed
See and that is the problem with Chad. People want to remember what he USED to be able to do and think he can still do it now. But he cannot. We do not run the slant because Chad just does not have the velocity on his ball anymore to make it an effective play.
I think Cotchery and Leon Washington would both be awesome weapons with the slant, but Chad is lobbing dump-offs now and a slant pass has to get there in a hurry for the defender not to be able to immediately break up the play. It always comes back to the same thing when we're arguing the passing strategy.
There is a huge difference now, Chad has trouble with any pass over 5 yards. Chad is about only suited for an offense built around 9 400 pound offensive lineman with LT as a running back and all he has to do is hand off every time. Other than that he is kaput. This is correct and a helluva a lot less sarcastic than my original reply.
