I haven't read too much. I'd like to see it. Junc, tell me, why is Chad so great after this last loss? Please, enlighten me. Someone. I don't see what the coaching staff is doing. I really cannot understand what is going on. I mean, maybe after the Ravens and Dolphins games, wanting Clemens in right away was irrational. Fine. I'll admit it. But then it looked more understandable as time has gone on. Why? Why is Pennington still in? Surely, my hatred of him is deserved? Has he not been terrible? I create this as a new thread, because I want to see people defending him, not tearing him up.
First, let me say that I agree it's time for Clemens. Still, Chad got absolutely no protection on Sunday. You would hope your QB could deal with that by audibling for a run or by scrambling and making something happen. Chad couldn't do that. Can Clemens? I hope so but I have doubts.
This is a crappy thread. The guys body is shot, he didn't rape your dog. Yes, he should be replaced, but you don't have to revel in it. Seriously. He's had some success for this team in the past, including 2002 when he brought the team to the playoffs when they were on the verge of losing the entire season, and I believe he deserves better from the fans. You guys act like he killed your mothers, for Christs sake.
This has nothing to do with Chad himself, but his nutjob followers, but whatever you say, buddy. Plus, there is nothing to revel in, Clemens is still on the bench.
Do you mean he forgot his trojans or are you implying the pass protection was bad. If it is the latter you watched a completely different game than I did. He largely had all day to throw up an airball.
I was among those supporting Chad since the beginning of the season, so I'll give it a shot: - He makes good QB decisions...Oh, wait, there's those game-ending picks he suddenly has a penchant for throwing. - He's accurate...oops, forgot about those bad misfires on short flat-patterns. - He's a winner...damn, does that say 1 and 5? Seriously, I got nothing now. Start Clemens already.
Im not here to defend Chad, but up until this year there has been much more to cheer about then to boo about. You can't say otherwise. Now, I would gladly trade him for a mid-late round pick...I cant defend him this year....he just sucks
Solomon Wilcots made a good point for why Chad is still in today on the Afternoon Blitz. He and Adam Schein had a good debate about the situation, and I was on the phone twice to get on the show and rebut Solomon, but their phone system was screwed and I got cut off both times (or maybe I lost me cell signal). Basically, Solomon said that the coaches have all week to evaluate players, and they see more than anyone else does because they see the guys perform all week. He said he has to believe that anyone who is hired into a position as important as head coach would have the common sense to start the player that performs the best during the week of preparation. He said Chad must be the one that is giving Mangini the most confidence about winning. He said it is more than just tosses they make in practice, but the answers they give in the meetings when the coach says "In this set, if you see this front and this coverage, who is your first read, and what would you audible to?" Solomon also mentioned that making a change at QB now is permanent, you don;t go back on it, and if it doesn't work, you've pretty much flushed the season down the tubes. I think you could always switch back if you had to. I wanted to rebut him on the practice performance thing. Even if that is currently true, you can't expect a backup to overtake the starter in practice. "Growing pains" are standard for all new QBs, and they are considered as such because they occur on TV, in games, not behind the scenes in practice. You have to throw the player into the fire at some point, because it is not realistic to expect a player, especially at QB, to get up to game speed and game performance in practice. Plus, some guys are at their best when they are thrown into the fire...
Admittedly, Chad made a few bad choices over the last 2 -3 weeks. He threw 2 terrible passes against the Giants. Overall though, I believe with his intelligence and accuaracy, he gives us the best chance to win NOW. If we put Clements in now, it will lead to MORE losses and a blow to his confidence. While I believe KC is our future, I don't think that this is the time to throw him to the wolves. While we have alot of issues to address with this team, QB is NOT the most important one in my opinion.
Our O-line has been pass-blocking a lot better....brick is for real......so it wouldn't be throwing him to the wolves. The problem is, we will probably have to deal with some bonehead plays where he holds it too long or throws picks, but it happens to every QB...and Chad is doign the latter anyways.
