This should be the answer for all the message board all week period. Give us something to look forward to, not the same old shit every weekend.
You have to let Pennington play his way out of the job, in Penningtons mind. You dont have a backup for Clemens. Pennington has to stay on the roster.
They're not going to cut him, until the offseason.... But don't you think Pennington has done MORE THAN ENOUGH to play his way out of the job? I honestly don't think he'd be starting on ANY team in the NFL other than the Jets, based purely on play, this season... Yes, that includes being behind Vinny, Rattay, Tavaris Jackson, Brian Griese and Joey Harrington...
Mangini's 1st Crisis - Pennington My take: I am very very very dissapointed in Eric Mangini. The guy showed me a lot last year - and this year he's showed me the exact opposite. His stubborness about Pennington - regardless of which side you are one - is hurting the team and the franchise. His stubborness about everything is hurting the team and the franchise. OK - I can buy the arguement that we should wait until the bye week to make the change - I don't agree, but I can buy it. However, the idea that he would go up to the podium and say he wouldn't even CONSIDER a QB change after 6 straight quarters with ZERO TD's is ridiculous. Look, I couldn't stand Herm - so I was willing to give Mangini a mulligan - but he's quickly using up that mulligan in 2007. His attitude sucks - and his team looks lost. Maybe he's losing the team? Change for change's sake is usually not the answer, but any layman can see that the Jets' don't have any explosiveness on offense, and despite all the other problems (poor tackling, poor run blocking until this week) the team could still be 3-3 or 4-2 with a little offensive production from the QB... That's my take - we could be 4-2 at best or 3-3 at worst with a stronger armed QB. Hey, how about Vinny? lol!
One thing I noticed on the fade routes yesterday is the WR are too close to the sideline to allow for a outside throw. They need to be about five yards from the chalk so the ball can be thrown over the outside shoulder. This is no excuse for the pick or the play calling. It was another terrible decision, but the WR are going to have to run better fade routes for any QB.
Not sure about safety help, but Smith was past the CB and had he been hit in stride would no doubt have continued to accelerate away from him.
At this point, I can only hope that Mangini knew the question was coming, was pissed about the game, and decided to offer the big middle finger to the media by refusing to acknowledge the possibility. I can only hope that he watched the tape last night and acknowledged that Pennington is done. I don't have a lot of faith in that happening, but I can still hope.
The main thing to be noticed was the fact that we played against a good Coach with good Cb's! When that happens the obvious hail mary fade to Coles will not work. Real Cb's shut that play down.
So we need to get Chad off the field, but still acknowledge he's a team leader? How about this... Take the C off the uni and slap it on a flag girls outfit. Chad can yell and scream and pump up the team from the sideline without having to kill us on the field.
And thats supposed to be a comment in support of Pennington? IF and IF that was the case, than he shouldn't have thrown it, he should have checked down then, we all KNOW he's good at that. And for the record like another poster said, it appeared Smith had a step on the corner anyway. Either way it was a bad throw Junc and you know that. When a WR is running a streak, you don't throw it behind him- either in front of him or near the sideline where only he can catch it.
Wasn't talking about the 4th down play, but the other fades in the middle of the field. I do agree with you that a good CB won't allow the jump ball so there has to be room to the sideline over the outside shoulder.
Don't worry about that, he did a great job dropping one for Pennington. In all seriousness though, even though that was a pretty crucial drop yesterday for Coles, I'm not going to throw him under the rug for one bad drop. He's almost singlehandedly won us quite a few games in his career. He always talks about how he owes a lot of his career to Chad, but if it wasn't for his toughness and ability to pull down "Pennington-Floaters" in traffic, Chad's career may have ended a few years earlier.
I can't believe we are in week 6 and people here are already arguing over who to draft. You people do realize that 5 years ago we were 2-5 and ended up winning the division? Granted New England isn't going to lose more than 2 games but this team can still make the playoffs. Nobody other than New England and Indy are locks to make the playoffs. This team is only a few plays away from being 5-1, I look at the schedule and only see 2 games that are losses. That would leave us at 9-7 with things being as jumbled as they are that might be good enough to steal the last WC spot. I think Cinci is as bad as they come and this will be the point in the season where they turn it around just like they did in San Diego in 02.
But that means Chad made a poor decision just like he did last week when Ross picked him off @ the 1 yard line. Say it junc, Chad made a bad decision.
On that play, there were 10 players in the box at the snap.... Even if there was going to be safety help, it COULD NOT have been up top when Chad threw the ball.. Even in pop-warner football, you are taught, as a QB, on fades, streaks, etc, to put it where your guy can get it or nobody can..... Throwing that ball short is absolutely unacceptable.... Chad would have been pilled from the game if he made that throw in high school, never mind the NFL
This is true, but even in HS they teach the WR to give space for at the sidline for the throw over the outside shoulder. The throw as short for sure and was the problem, but the WR need to run better fade routes leaving room to make the catch over the outside shoulder.
That's true, but had the throw been caught OOB, or gone OOB, that would have been an issue... I believe that one of the reasons Smith was so close to the sideline was that there were 10 guys in the box.... By fading all the way outside, he got true isolation on the CB, and, by getting a step on him, set himself up for what very likely is a TD with a good throw
I agree, the throw as terrible, not disagreeing at all, but the Smith has to give about 3 yds between him and the sidline. That one didn't bother me, but the one to Coles was a great pass, but it had to be caught out of bounds because Coles was running down the next to the chalk. This is fundamental football, so is tackling, blocking, etc. This is really starting to worry me and it goes on the coaching staff. It seamed like they went back to basics at the start last year, and tried more deception throughout the year and now thats all they do. I do see it as a positive that the CS would just get back to basics if Clemens plays and I think that would be as positive as the change in talent level. I thought we saw it in the 1st half, but then it disappeared again.
