After today, I lean towards Chris Long. Maybe our line isn't horrible after all.

And why McFadden? We have TJ and Washington. If anything, Brohm or Woodson or someone like that would make this list.

The only names we need to hear should belong to Defensive tackles, nose tackles and offensive guards. Round after round after round.

  5. TJ and Washington are solid backs..but of the names mentioned...Mcfadden is by far the best player..and truthfully maybe the most complete RB prospect since Ladanian Tomlinson. He leaves the Jones/Washington duo in the dust.

Yes we have specific needs..but at the same time...we are not in a position to pass on a truly elite prospect..which McFadden is.

We have a boatload of $ to spend in FA as well as 6 other rounds to possibly trade down to stockpile trenchmen. But again, in no way are we in any position to pass on a talent like McFadden to reach for an inferior talent.

If McFadden is that good, I'd have to wait for the combine to decide that, then I'd think about it. I would have no problem splitting time with TJ and McFadden and trying to trade Leon for a 2nd/3rd rounder or something.

  7. Yeah, I'm not suggesting TJ and Washington arent solid. Nor am I saying we dont need help at some less "flashy" positions. All I'm saying is..Talents like McFadden don't come around every day..or in this case, every draft. We still have a need on O for someone who can create instant points. McFadden would most certainly fill that role. He's also yet another guy we could add who can play QB...that'd give Schotty even more ammo for creative offensive play-calling.

He's not good enough to actually play QB in the NFL unless it was a crazy situation where 2 or 3 QBs got injured in a game.
Let's see if McFadden can top Keith Byars numbers of 13 passes with six going for TDs. McFadden's throwing motion reminds me of Byars'.

It's still odd to me that Brad Smith has not thrown a pass in a regular season game.

Chris Long is an interesting guy for me...

I know he is listed at 285 or so...

I heard he is playing at 260 right now...

Anyway he can play OLB for us in the 3-4?

Or does he just need to add the weight and play 3-4 end?

That's the one race I'm ok with letting Miami win...the Jets can be terrible, but as long as we're better than the Dolphins life will go on (especially living in Orlando).

Our pick all depends on how Clemens does in the remainder of the year. I'd love for him to do well (at least show flashes, consistency is tough) because then we can focus on other pieces.

If we're in the Top 5, we have to get a franchise signal caller. Brian Brohm played a great game against one of the better defenses in the country and made some absolutely beautiful throws. I'm not exaggerating when I say that he probably already would be in the upper echelon of QBs throwing an accurate, deep ball in the NFL. Throwing a deep ball is a lot more than just chucking and praying (Kyle Boller)- Brohm has the uncanny ability of hitting his receivers perfectly in stride with great accuracy.

We don't even run option passes with Brad Smith and he was competing to be our third string QB. I don't know why, but I doubt MCfad would get any if Brad never does it. But I would keep all three running backs or trade Jones, because Washington is a better suited to be Mcfaddens backup.

And another thing, why isn't Brad our place holder???? Bad snap or a fake field goal Brad should be out there.

I don't think RB is a need. People need to realize Jones is a damn good player, and he showed it today even without a pass threat. RB is a strength on this team with Jones and Leon.

We need to find out what we have in Clemens and go from there. Guard should be adressed, as well as NT and OLB. That's what the agenda should be IMO.

Forget about Jake Long.......First, Jake Long isn't a Top 5 pick and to spend such a high pick on a RT isn't even a possibility....No one uses a top 5 pick on a RT, it's Salary Cap suicide. Chris Long isn't suited for a 3-4 end, I'd rather trade down and pick up Derrick Harvey as our OLB who can get after the QB.

McFadden would be our best option with a Top 5 pick.....he's a game breaker. Defenses would have to key on McFadden 100% of the time.

Problem is you don't spend a Top 5 pick on a G. There is no NT or OLB even close to be considered a Top 5 pick in 2008. If you trade out of the Top 5 for extra picks than you can look at the positions you've mentioned. I would never invest a first Rd pick on a Guard unless they are "the Cream of the Crop" and then it would have to be a late rd 1 pick.

There are really next to no quality NT(RD 1) in 08's draft....no Ngata or Wilfork types that deserve early first Rd consideration.

Look at what Adrian Peterson is doing for Minnesota. I'd say they are comparable players, and if a borderline superstar is available for you like Peterson or Bush, you take him and don't look back.

Darren McFadden reminds me of Calvin Johnson, in that he's someone who coming out of college you know has legit hall of fame caliber potential. You don't pass up on him regardless of who you have at the position. And its not like either Jones or Washington are pro-bowlers.

    Thats right.

You draft Frank Okam early (2nd rd..), and take a flyer on Shirley in round 4 at the DT spot.

You decide if Bender is a better fit at guard or tackle, and then you draft whatever hole he isnt filling.

(If it were me, I would put Moore at LG, Bender at RG, and Draft a tackle. This way you can be Huge on the right side, and that opens up pulling Mangold into space when you run right, by having bender seal the inside...)

You take the Best 3/4 OLB in the First round.
