Mine... Right: - Marcus McNeil would be a stud left tackle - A.J. Hawk will be a very good linebacker - Jammal Brown was an NFL ready offensive tackle on either side. - Luis Castillo would dominate NFL tackles. - Both Vincent Jackson and Brandon Jones can be starting NFL wide receivers - Michael Boley will be a good and underrated player in the draft - Troy Williamson and Roddy White will both suck - Demeco Ryans will play like the first rounder he should've been Wrong - Ernest Shazor will be a very good strong safety - Jesse Mahelona will be drafted before Haloti Ngata and be a better player - Antrell Rolle will be an instant shutdown corner - J.J. Arrington can survive in this league - Antaj Hawthorne will dominate the line of scrimmage for whomever he plays for - Someone will take a chance in the first on Marcus Vick
I'll edit this post when I get time, but here are some for now: right Anquan Boldin would be a major player Jerricho Cotchery would be a mid-round steal Chad Johnson would be the best WR from the WR-rich 2001 draft Rick Mirer would be garbage Peyton Manning would be much better than Ryan Leaf wrong David Terrell would be superb Marcus Nash would be good
Jets moving up infront of New England and Jacksonville to take Rhodes in the 4th, i thought they knew something Leinart and Carr=Bust's D'brick was D'pick No Bush in NY Leaf=bust
Right: Ed Reed over Bryan Thomas Wrong: Although I didn't like trading up, I thought D-Rob would be a beast by now.

Right: Ed Reed will be a monster Nate Clements will be a shut-down corner Both Vilma and Williams will be studs Clinton Portis in the second round was a complete steal Roethlisburger will be the best QB in that class Rex Grossman will suck. Wrong: Quentin Jammer will be a great corner. Chris Simms should have never fell to the third round. David Carr is a franchise qb. Charles Rogers is a stud talent at wideout. Jimmy Kennedy will be a good defensive tackle.
Im glad we dindt pick Carpenter i really liked him coming out of Ohio State i was wrong though he isnt even starting right now for Dallas hopefully he could play inside for them though. Also Charles Rogers i thoght he would be so much better than Andre Johnosn was.
Looking at the impact that Vilma has had on the performance of our defense, I wouldn't be so quick to break your arm patting yourself on the back. While Vilma may have been a good pick, we could have done better. Right now Sean Taylor and Kellen Winslow look like better pros than Vilma in 2007. Looking at the talent available in the first round of the 2004 draft, I am not sure that Vilma was such an incredible value. We passed on Steven Jackson, Vince Wilfork, Steven Jackson, and other players that have had more impact than Vilma IMHO. Pro Bowlers / solid starters from 2004 first round 1 San Diego Chargers Eli Manning (traded to Giants) Quarterback Ole Miss 2 Oakland Raiders Robert Gallery Offensive tackle Iowa 3 Arizona Cardinals Larry Fitzgerald Wide receiver Pittsburgh 4 New York Giants Philip Rivers (traded to Chargers) Quarterback NC State 5 Washington Redskins Sean Taylor Free safety Miami (FL) 6 Cleveland Browns (from Detroit) Kellen Winslow II Tight end Miami (FL) 7 Detroit Lions (from Cleveland) Roy Williams Wide receiver Texas 8 Atlanta Falcons DeAngelo Hall Cornerback Virginia Tech 10 Houston Texans Dunta Robinson Cornerback South Carolina 11 Pittsburgh Steelers Ben Roethlisberger Quarterback Miami (OH) 12 New York Jets Jonathan Vilma Linebacker Miami (FL) 13 Buffalo Bills Lee Evans Wide receiver Wisconsin 14 Chicago Bears Tommie Harris Defensive tackle Oklahoma 16 Philadelphia Eagles (from San Francisco) Shawn Andrews Offensive tackle Arkansas 17 Denver Broncos (from Cincinnati) D.J. Williams Linebacker Miami (FL) 18 New Orleans Saints Will Smith Defensive end Ohio State 19 Miami Dolphins (from Minnesota) Vernon Carey Offensive Tackle Miami (FL) 20 Minnesota Vikings (from Miami) Kenechi Udeze Defensive end Southern California 21 New England Patriots (from Baltimore) Vince Wilfork Defensive tackle Miami (FL) 24 St. Louis Rams (from Denver through Cincinnati) Steven Jackson Running back Oregon State 28 Carolina Panthers (from Philadelphia through San Francisco) Chris Gamble Cornerback Ohio State 32 New England Patriots Benjamin Watson Tight end Georgia Everyone Else 9 Jacksonville Jaguars Reggie Williams Wide receiver Washington 15 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Michael Clayton Wide receiver LSU 22 Buffalo Bills (from Dallas) J.P. Gallery playing at a probowl level at LG right now. Hes a big reason why Raiders are running the ball as well , as they have been.
I don't disagree with you there, but he was drafted as an NFL-ready, dominating LT. Not many guards are selected in the Top 5 of the NFL draft.
So you're saying a borderline pro Bowl interior lineman, having one good year after his previous 3 poor seasons...was worth a top 5 draft pick??
First of all, KWII and Sean Taylor were drafted ahead of Vilma. I don't think anyone is saying that Vilma is the best player in that draft anyway. Second, Shaun Alexander wasn't even within 5 years of that draft. Third, you "solid starters/pro bowlers" list has a couple of errors: a) Gallery was drafted as a LT, G don't go that high. his career has been salvaged b) Ahmad Carroll was cut from the Packers two season ago c) Jason Babin has been traded from the Texans You have to think about where the Jets were at the time. The defense was aging, Curtis Martin was still thriving (not to mention there was a guy named LaMont Jordan around). The Jets had an immediate need at MLB in the 4-3 and filled it with the defensive ROY. I am under no illusion that Vilma is dominating MLB, but the early returns suggested that he was a terrific pick based on his draft position. DJ Williams has struggled in his move to MLB in Denver this season which was the other choice that the Jets were looking at.
I edited my post. First of all I was referring to Steven Jackson (not Shaun Alexander). Gallery will be a pro bowl guard for the next few years (not a LT but not a bad pick). Vince Wilfork should have been the pick IMHO. That was my belief on draft day and I would stand by that pick now. I always thought Vilma was too small and that was when we used to play a 4-3 defense. In a 3-4 defense, he is no threat to the opposing QB.
Right: -D'Brick would be an elite pass protecting LT, but would be an average run blocker -Robert Gallery would not be an elite OT and was a product of the Iowa system - Dunta Robinson was not a workout warrior and would be a good NFL corner - Chris Perry was a product of the Michigan OL and system - Matt Jones WAS a workout warrior Wrong: -Vince Wilfork was not a good fit in the 3-4 - Kevin Williams would be a bust - Carson palmer would be a bust - Elton Brown would be an elite NFL Guard
YEs if you can get a probowl player at any position, you wouldn't take that.Alot of top five players don't make it. Let Me ask You this- D Robertson was the fourth Pick, you tell me he was able to move to DE(not position he was drafted for) and play at probowl level, that wouldn't justify his top five pick. J Vilma was able to move to safety and become a probowl caliber safety. NOw instaed of losing a player, for second round pick, you have a pronbowl caliber player at another position. Thats one less position you have to address.
