Do you like Interleague play after the first 10 years? I really don't like it. I find the games boring and would much rather see more divisional and League matchups.
I like it. I think we play the rest of the AL enough times. For every additional Yankees/Rangers game we would get, it's fun to play a team that we rarely play. Also fun seeing our team play in other ballparks. I will say that it does take some of the intrigue out of the World Series.
If they could give me Red Sox-Cubs every 3 years rather than every 6 years and dump Atlanta on a yearly basis(once every 3 years is good enough) then I'll be happy. I just hate when they take away a series vs. someone we barely play(Cubs) to force us to play a so called "rival" when there is no such thing at all. I'd expand it to play everyone at least once a year, fix the divisions(-1 NL, +1 AL), end this only in late June early July scheduling and let them play whomever, whenever they want.
I think they should do away with it, and just have each team play one 'rivalry inter-league series' per year.... Mets/Yankees Cleveland/Cincinatti Oakland/ San Francisco etc, etc
dumb, not everyone has a rival, heck they screwed up divisions, f'ed up that one as there are 16 teams in the NL and 14 in the AL.
They should reduce it, it leads to unbalanced scheduling and other than the occasional rivalry series interleague play is just dumb and unneeded
That's my only problem with it. The unbalanced schedule BS. But I don't think the unbalanced schedule is a direct result of interleague play, so much as it is a product of getting more "divisional rivalry games" on tv. The schedules definitely need to be rebalanced though, regardless of the reasoning.
Ive had it. Enough yankees mets already...and it takes away a little from the world series. When I was a kid I always found it cool to see an american league team playing a national league team. Luster is obviously gone
The schedule would be better if you extended the interleague play and fix the divisions How some teams schedule works(using Boston as base) There are 18 interleague games(6 series) There are 72 division games(18 games each 6 series) There are 72 non-divisional games(10 teams(35/37 vs each division)2/3 series) My way There are 48 interleague games(14 teams - 1 series, 1 team - 2 series(rivalry I guess)) There are 44 divisional games(11 games per team) There are 70 non-divisional games(7 games vs. 10 teams) I figure the whole 18/19 games in division is boring, it almost forces a divisional game almost every 2/3 weeks and I rather see other teams just for parity reasons. Just for fun the divisional changes: take Houston from NL central and put them in AL West unless there is a move out west(Florida to Vegas) then Pitt would move to the NL East and Vegas is in the AL West
I hate it because it's an unfair advantage right from the start if the game is being played in an AL park. NL teams don't pay millions of dollars like some teams in the AL just do have a guy hit, which puts them at a disadvantage.
Which is why I think they should end the stupid debate and change the rule so both leagues share the same rules. This is the 21st century and there is no need for the league to have 2 seperate set of rules when it is 1 league now not 2.
I don't care one way or the other except that teams in each division should play the same interleague opponents the same number of times.
But it's not a disadvantage to an American League team to play in a National League park, where many times their best hitter has to come out of the lineup, or at least become a defensive liability? Are the Red Sox at an advantage when they play in Atlanta and Ortiz either has to take the day off, or play first? Come on. Personally, I like the fact that there are two leagues with vastly different styles of play. If you eliminate or force both leagues to adopt the DH, then why bother having two leagues at all? And I personally think it is to the NL's advantage to play interleague. If you're used to playing NL-style ball, you get to add a better hitter in the 9-hole than your pitcher. No matter who it is, you're getting a better bat in the lineup, yet can play the same style of ball. That excuse that the AL teams have an advantage there is simply because the NL teams get smoked in interleague play due to an overall lack of offensive depth, not solely in the 3-4 spots in the lineup. The only reason the NL wins world series is because over the course of a 7-game series, pitching is more important than hitting. Over the course of a season, with so many interleague games, AL power hitters face enough low-end starters to rip NL teams. And if the argument was actually valid that NL offensive talent would be good enough if NL teams concentrated on picking up a DH bat, why wouldn't the NL win once in a while in All-Star games? In that game, both teams should theoretically be even in terms of offensive prowess.
It is just 1 league, they just name the conferences, leagues. There is no AL or NL commish anymore just Bud the MLB commish. The DH rule should either be gone or in both leagues because it would be like having a punter and a kicker in the AFC vs. just a punter doing all the kicking in the NFC.
I don't think that would be the same thing. Personally, I prefer the difference in leagues. It's simply a preference. I'm not saying anyone has to agree, I just think it's silly to claim that somehow one league or the other has a distinct advantage because they do/do not have the DH rule. The styles of baseball are totally different. And the thing that interests me is the question: "If it was determined that the NL would enact the DH, would you be in favor of both leagues being even?" I somehow doubt most NL fans would be okay with that. NL fans simply want an end to the DH, which to me is ridiculous.
DH or no DH I just think it's silly for a major sports league to have 2 different set of rules for teams to follow, if you're in league A you get this set and if you're in league B you get the other set. I made a mistake in my earlier example it should of made the punter(specialists who only do 1 thing) the DH of the AFC and the kicker be the pitcher(does all kicks) in the NFC.
It isn't possible to be able to schedule have the leagues with the same amount of teams unless you want one team to be forced to play an interleague game every week, and honestly dedicating that many games playing against a league that has nothing to do with the division/playoff races is even worse than it is now. And also there is no incentive for interleague play other than an occasional rivalry game.
You are used to your league's rules and we are used to our league's rules. I see it as ridiculous that a player sits on his ass all day and gets 4 ABs a game. He is basically an everyday pinch hitter
