I dont care how much of a raise this guy wants, he is a great player, and though he didnt play particularly well in this series ( 4 for 15, 1 HR, 1 RBI and 6Ks) at least he didnt bat his typical .080 BA, and lets be honest, how well did any of our "star" players perform in the ALDS?....Eventually Arod will get it, and he will help this team make it to the Postseason. With better pitching, next year we should see better results

    .314 AVG, 54 HR, 156 RBI in 2007

    Dont opt out Arod!

Oh he's opting out, no doubt about it...

But ultimately I think the Yankees pay him and keep him.

    He has to stay.

Is their a cutoff for the best player in baseball in the prime of his career?

I would say 35mil per is the max...

    Damn that's a freaking boat.

give him 35 million max, and contract him for 5 years....enough time to see if it looks like he is going to break the HR record...If George really wants the record back in NY, he will make Arod a Yankee for life

but thats getting ahead of myself...we need to tie him up now before he gets lured by either Anaheim or Boston ( I will vomit if this is the case)

I have a feeling posada is gone...especially if torre is. I know it sounds crazy after the year he had(playoffs not included of course since he sucked dick) but being a catcher he could just wake up one morning and suck

I dont understand why everyone wants Posada gone, who is going to fill his spot, and what has he possibly done that makes him expendable?

Keep ARod for sure. Other than that, try and get younger! Get some more pitching asap!

I think Arod stays. If he opts out the Yankees have already said many times they won't sign him so if he really wants to test those waters he is taking a chance. I also think they give him the extension he wants.

If he opts out he's gone b/c we lose the Texas money, I think the will wind up renegotiating before he can opt out estending his deal and giving him a nice raise while still getting financial help from texas.

It's sad that I am happy w/ ARod getting 1 RBI this series, that's how low the bar was set for him but at least he finally did something. Next year the goal is for him to get a hit w/ RISP n october. I know that's being unfair expecting him to do that but baby steps, he'll get there.

Hate to break it to you, but there's no way that George will be making baseball decisions 5 years from now, even if he is still alive.

The good news (if that's a word that can be used after being bounced out of the playoffs) is that they can start negotiating with him now. He has until 10 days after the WS ends to opt out. If they want to extend him they have all the time in the world now to get it done.

junc, I'm also sure you are happy with Jeter's 3 GIDPs, 1 RBI and .176 BA too even though you didn't mention it.

A bad series, but we all know Jeter's track record in big games and big situations...He's been there done that...

Jeter certainly has quite the resume...but lets be fair....he absolutely sucked and was a gigantic reason we lost....and his DP in the sixth, you know, DP number 3, was the absolute killing point of the season. That was our last chance

I hope he opts out, he can easily get more money after this season(not postseason)

I'm not so sure resigning A-Rod is in the best interest of the Yankees. Financially it would help if he were to be kept through breaking the HR record. But from a baseball perspective, the Yankees could use that money to go after pitching. Don't forget Johann Santana is a free agent in 2009 and the Twins won't be able to sign him. If we could use some of that money to nab him, or trade for him, then why not go down that route. He is more valuable than A-Rod.
