Ian O'Connor writes that Joe Torre is almost certainly gone if the Yankees fall to the Indians. He got this direct from Steinbrenner. http://www.northjersey.com/page.php...lRUV5eTcyMDQ5NzEmeXJpcnk3ZjcxN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2
I figured as much. I appreciate all that Torre has done, and of course if they lose again early it's not all his fault. But it's time for a change. They should have done it last year when they could have got Piniella.
"I think we'll re-sign him," Steinbrenner said of Rodriguez. "I think he's going to have a good run the rest of the [postseason]. I think he realizes New York is the place to be, the place to play. A lot of this [postseason] is laying on his shoulders, you know, but I think he's up to it."
The team looks unprepared again... that is Torre's fault... but you're right... they should have made the change last year
As much as this series specifically may not be Torre's fault, he has to be personally responsible for the lack of success this team has had in recent years. There is no way around it. I'm not as flustered as I was last year at the current moment. Last year was entirely his fault with thew way he handled the lineup at the end of the season and into the playoffs. But what are you supposed to do if your manager's recent track record is loaded with first round upsets and postseason disappointments?
I agree. This was definnitely the wrong time for a statement like this. We all knew that this was his belief anyway. This ultimatum was not necessary.
Not only that, but the statement about the bugs and Froemming not umpiring anymore of "our games" is downright laughable on so many levels. SOmebody should pull the plug on his microphone, forvever.
Thats a good point. The Yankees came into the season unprepared. They were on fire down the stretch and then we have to fear this because they had a couple of days off before the alds? That is bullshit. Why the hell couldn't we continue to play the way we were only a week or 2 ago?
Can't disagree with any of the points you made. But, personally I want Torre back as manager (although I really don't have a reason for it:wink: ).
i don't blame him one bit. were down 2 games to a team we beat 6 times. lose today were done. whats wrong with him saying what he did? he wants to win, thats the kind of owner i want. You can keep the one you have if GMCing is your thing. as far as the bugs, they were at their worst when Joba was pitching. Hes a young nervous kid to begin with. Without the bugs,no wild pitch and tying run doesnt score.
that's why the writers chase him so hard for interviews. because he's an idiot and does things like this.
Rethinking it, there is news here. Cashman is on the hot seat too. I'm sure he will keep his job because he made some great decisions this year on our young pitchers but Steinbrenner makes it clear that he and not Cashman will make the decisions on Arod and anybody else which I'm sure includes Rivera and Posada going forward.
Yeah that's exactly what I want the owner of my team doing the night before our biggest game of the year, calling up the media and cranking up the pressure on my team by saying the manager has to win the next three games or he's fired. Way to show faith George! And questioning the umpires and blaming your loss on the bugs was a good move too.... LOL! The real question for you Type-O... how does this help the team at all? This isn't about desire to win, this is his stroking his ego one more time. This guy reminds me of Mr. Burns more and more everytime we hear from him.
