I've only been able to see 3 of the first 4 games up here in MA (Didn't see the win of course) and to my eyes at least, Kerry Rhodes has not been a very big impact. Anybody else feel the same? Is it because of the lack of a pass rush? First 4 Games of 2007 Tackles - 18 Solo - 13 Assists - 5 *Sacks - 0 Int - 1 Pass Def. - 2 First 4 Games of 2006 Tackles - 30 Solo - 22 Assists - 8 Sacks - 3 Int - 1 Pass Def. - 3
i msaid something about this yesterday. kerry rhodes is probably having to account for the front 7's inability to stop the run and can focus on roaming the field to utilize his ballhawk mentality. or maybe the coach's arent using him like they used to. its hard to pinpoint but with the whole defense playing poorly its kind of odd youd expect him to stand out a little. either way i wouldnt worry about it. id be more worried about us getting a pass rush and hitting a rb less than 5 yards past the LOS
They haven't brought him up in the box much (hence the drop in tackles and sacks)... I think with a rookie at one corner, and largely David Barrett on the other side, they've needed to keep him back... He's still played fairly well in coverage (I can't remember a play where we've been beaten straight over the top, and whenever they go there, he makes a play)..... They brought him up to blitz just once on Sunday, and he got there, but Edwards somehow got rid of the ball, but Rhodes hit him.... As Dyson gets more comfortable, and Revis continues to improve, we can assume that there will be more S blitzes... But a large part of his success rushing the passer last year was the element of surprise, kind of like we used to have with the NB blitzes with Ray Mickens.... Teams know it's coming now, so they'll be shading protection when they see him creep up
we also were ineffectively blitzing. meanwhile our 3rd and 4th CB's were on the field trying to cover pats WR. i dont think dyson played at all that game and if so rarely, but i do remember seeing rhodes blow some coverages. either way Randy Moss is dominating this year so thats nothing too crazy
I haven't seen alot of our games this year, but it's weird that rhode's stats are worse. Sacks I understand, but i would have thought he would have more tackles with a weaker front 7.
My fault. I bought his jersey and it has been down hill since. That happens to me with jerseys or possibly the Jets always seem to suck and those are the jerseys I buy.
Once the secondary gets healthy I think Rhodes will be more effective. We still need a pass rush though.
Coverage has never been Rhodes' greatest strength, and teams are running to the opposite side of the field from him because Coleman is such an easy target. I see a lot of Kerry Rhodes every game, it just doesn't always show up in the stats.
That game was largely wiped from my memory.... And I don't blame the DBs much for that, since Brady had literally 7+ seconds to throw when he was throwing deep to Moss.... Champ Bailey couldn't cover Justin McCareins that long, never mind David Barrett vs Randy Moss...
Beningo had him on the radio probably about two weeks ago and was asken him about how he doesnt nearly as often as he did last year and Rhodes was just like the coaches havent asked me to do that this year, theyve asked me to be more coverage oriented....this kids forte is playing close to the line of scrimmage and were doin the exact opposite of that with him
Expect to see more out of Rhodes this week. With Smith starting at SS we have a legit strong safety to take the brute force and open things up for Rhodes
We have to send him on the blitz..but with our secondary has to figure it out first...the defense looks awful every week..guess all the 30+ pickups didn't pan out huh??
Exactly, it doesnt matter whos back there in coverage. If any QB has all day to throw the ball he will find the open WR.
How can you hi-lite the sacks stat? He plays safety. He had 5 sacks last year. That is VERY good for a safety. They are not sending him in anymore
