Many of you know I bartend for Disney. Well, Disney has their own cbale TV for their Hotels and Resorts. They only show Disney owned stations..ie. ESPN, ABC...With the exception being local Fox, CBS and NBC. With the playoffs on TBS this year caused a huge disaster. Nobody could see the games. No Hotel bar, not in your room. Not anywhere. EXCEPT the ESPN Club on Disney Boardwalk. They went on a 3 hour wait starting at 12PM. People camped and did not move. Total Chaos. If the Disney cable had TBS, I would have made twice as much tonite. I do not know whether to be pissed at Disney or MLB for selling to a shit hole network like TBS. Please, MLB put the playoffs back on broadcast TV. End of my rant.
It's dumb but not as The Baseball Network they used back in '95 when they regionalized coverage so all we could see was 1 of the 4 playoff series on a given night.
The baseball playoffs obviously have to be on cable TV, since they don't get nearly enough viewers to make it worthwhile for broadcast TV (or more correctly, the amount MLB would get would be nowhere near as high). Seems to me that Disney are the only people you should be complaining about: first, for not being willing to bid as much as that "shit hole network" TBS to put the playoffs on ESPN, and second, for the incredible arrogance of refusing to show any cable network that they don't own (almost) anywhere on the property.
Yep.. And also, as a Met fan, I've had enough baseball this season..... I want to be able to come home from class and pop on the King of Queens or Seinfeld... Now all I see is PHILLIES! Fuck that
How is it arrogance? Cable companies would charge per room. It saves Disney millions of dollars. I just wish MLB would go back to network TV.
Yes, and most places would consider that part of the cost of doing business. Does the Sheraton chain refuse to carry ESPN in their hotel rooms because they would have to pay Disney for the privilege? To expect paying guests to forfeit the chance to see every popular basic cable network, such as CNN, Fox News, TBS, and so on, because Disney doesn't own them, is, in fact, incredibly arrogant, and also ridiculously cheap.
The Sheraton pays for a cable service. Disney owns their own service. And for the record, they carry all the news networks. Also, How many hours of TV do you think people actually watch when staying at a Disney Resort?
That's right, Disney owns their own service, which has nothing to do with providing other services to their customers. Up until 2000 the Intercontinental corporation owned Bass (the ale company) - do you think they refused to serve Budweiser in their hotel restaurants as a result? Of course not - they recognize that customers should be treated with more respect than that. Disney's modus operandi has always been overtly paternalistic and controlling, with the idea being that everything you need is on property, as long as you let them define what it is that you need. Look, I really don't get why you're arguing with me about this. YOU are the one who complained about TBS not being available on the Disney property, not me. You then somehow acted like that was anyone's responsibility but Disney's, and that's just ridiculous.
I was more complaining that MLB keeps the playoffs off broadcast TV. Whatever your agenda is against Disney is your prerogative. I guess I should hate the NFL because the NFL ticket is only on DTV. EDIT: Seaworld and Busch Gardens only serve Bud products. Total Arrogance.
This is getting pointless, but the statement I bolded above is among the more absurd ones I've seen here. Because I disagree with some of their policies I have "an agenda against Disney"? Wow, they really have you brainwashed, don't they?
The reason why they didn't bid on the playoffs is because the MLB had really jacked their prices up. Disney has already paid a lot of money for the new NASCAR and NBA contracts and didn't feel like dropping that kind of cash. Turner is still trying to make a name for themselves in sports (yes they already televise some things, but not on the grand level that other companies do). They are more willing to drop that kind of cash for a product like that.
Didn't the NHL do this exact same thing w/ TNN or some other s-hole Network? Look how bad that went AOMOF, Hockeytown was 1/3 empty on opening night!!! Another Nice move Selig!
