Best question of the entire season.

The guy hadn't lost a series in over a month, and everyone wanted to steal his fire.

Well guess what? The fire's gone out.

This is just sickening. And yeah, that one announcer is loving this. If I have to hear homerism, why can't I just see the game on YES?

    I'm really pissed off tonight.

No one made one for the Baltimore series, so I made one after the first game and they won the next two to take the series.

Sorry if I wasn't suppossed to make this thread

Torre knew what was doing by choosing Wang to start Game 1. I really thought he would turn it around and pitch well on the road, but I was wrong. I don't know what it is, but he just doesn't do well on the road. I'd love for it to be explained, but I don't know what a legit reason would be. It's arguable that Wang should have waited and pitched Game 3 at the Stadium. But he is our ace, and he needed to start Game 1 of this series. It's just unfourtanate that the bad luck on the road got to Wang tonight.

It didn't help that Ohlendorf didn't pitch well. He's had, what, 6 or 7 games of Major League experience, starting this season? Posada hasn't seen a lot of him, so I don't know why he was the choice of relievers to bring out after Wang was taken out.

I never give up, as I feel anything can happen against this Indians bullpen tonight, but all I'm saying is, the offense needs to show up tomorrow when there are RISP, and Pettite needs to have a great outing.

It doesn't help when you have Sabathia on the ropes early, bases loaded, one out, and you score exactly none.

This game's not on Wang. Once again, it's the lack of timely offense. Had we taken the lead there, it's a totally different ballgame.

Giambi pinch hitting down 9, in the ninth, no one on, and at least one out?

    Thanks Joe.

But dang this week has stunk for me so far

    Jets lose to Buffalo
Liverpool loses at home to Marseille
    Yanks lose game 1

Tomorrow is a must win. I have confidence in Andy, but the bats have to get hot early.

  14. I'm absolutely furious...but you knew the tribe were gonna get one of the earlu games. We had beaten them 6 games in a row...when 2 good clubs play one another...winning streaks are only gonna go on for so long..

If we get out of that first inning jam...game couldve been completely different.

Alio- not sure why all I do is bust your balls lately but....this games not on Wang? huh? We scored in the first to get this rolling a wee bit and he came out and gave them three right back...then we inch closer and he comes out and bombs in the fifth.....should we have scored more in the fifth? hell yeah...but having 3 runs against sabathia after five aint bad....This game is on charlie chan my man

Exactly. Andy has a PROVEN track record as the Yankees Game 2 starter...He was always the reliable guy who can give you 7 strong. And I still feel that way today about Andy with the season he has had.

The bats MUST give him run support though, something he lacked much of the season.

Okay, I shouldn't have said it like I did, because I didn't mean to say that Wang was free of any guilt. He had zero control last night. Joe is partly to blame for it though, since he should have pulled him much earlier. It was pretty obvious even in the second inning that the first inning wasn't a fluke. He was off. But the man managing the Yankees last night was April Joe, not August Joe. It looked like the game was inconveniencing him.

So yeah, Wang pitched poorly, no question.

But I don't blame Wang. Like I said, Joe has to do his job and pull him much earlier.

Even with that, I blame the bats. You can be happy about getting 3 against Sabathia all you want, but the fact is, there were 2 Cy Young candidates pitching last night. Just as much as they got to ours, we should have, and almost did, get to theirs.

Bases loaded, one out, no runs. WHAT?!?! If you think that is anything but unacceptable, I don't know what else to say.

Joe doesn't put the bunt on for Jeter?

Joe green lights Posada 3-0, and Jorge takes a half-hearted swing at a pitch right down the middle?

WTF is Matsui doing in the lineup at this point? Has Joe not realized that the guy can't hit? I noticed months ago. He's useless, and he's a dead spot in the lineup.

And as much as I love Shelley Duncan, why the hell is Joe pinch hitting him for Myxlplyx when Giambi is on the bench?

We're back to the playoffs. Unfortunately, it looks like the same team we've watched enter October for a quick stop before winter vacation once again.

Game 1 was awful but it gets forgotten if Andy can give us a good game tonight and we win. A split is all we were looking for and winning Game 1 seems to have been a curse for us in recent years. The only 2 series where we lost Game 1 and lost the series came in the '01 and '03 WS but other han that we:

-won Game 1 in '95 ALDS, lost the series
-won Game 1 in '97 ALDS, lost the series
-won Game 1 in '02 ALDS, lost the series
-won Game 1 in '04 ALCS, lost the series
-won Game 1 in '05 ALDS, lost the series
-won Game 1 in '06 ALDS, lost the series

While after losing the opener we:

-lost Game 1 of '96 WS, won WS
-lost Game 1 o '00 ALDS, won series
-lost Game 1 of '00 ALCS, won series
-lost Game 1 of '01 ALDS, won series
-lost Game 1 of '03 ALDS, won series
-lost Game 1 of '03 ALCS, won series
-lost Game 1 of '04 ALDS, won series

Hopefully the trend continues but we need Andy to come through and we need our bats to forget it's postseason and pretend like it's the reg season.

Wang seemed too strong right from the start last night. His sinker was never sinking. I guess that gets blamed on Guidry or Torre for not getting him enough work between starts. Other then that, the 5th which Alio already pointed out was a disaster when we had a chance to blow the game open and couldn't do a thing about it.

The bigger concern which nobody has mentioned is that Ohlendorf is our only long middle reliever and he was total garbage. This is Cleveland not Boston we are playing. I guess Vizcaino can go long too but Torre chose Ohlendorf instead which doesn't say much about how Vizcaino must be right now.

To me the next two games are both must win games. I never want to be within one game of elimination and depending on Mussina to keep us alive. If we are we can start packing the bags now.
