Why would he be a retard for leaving after how he has been treated here? By everyone from the fans to the manager to the GM.
MLB.com and their web site haven't updated the times yet so I hope this isn't true. I'd miss the entirety of Games 1 and 2 if this schedule is correct:sad: Supposedly this was a mistake and not the correct schedule
Not everyone is treated like he has been. In fact I can't think of anyone who put up the numbers he did in his first three years, forget this year, who got treated like that. Name one if you can. That is reserved for the people who come here and fail miserably. He did anything but that. The post season was what it was and everybody failed, not just him but he was the one who took all the abuse.
From Yahoo: 1. Thu, Oct 4 – at Cleveland, 6:30 pm EDT (TBS) 2. Fri, Oct 5 – at Cleveland, 5:00 pm EDT (TBS) 3. Sun, Oct 7 – at NY Yankees, 6:30 pm EDT (TBS) 4.* Mon, Oct 8 – at NY Yankees, 6:00 pm EDT (TBS) 5.* Wed, Oct 10 – at Cleveland, 5:00 pm EDT (TBS)
That matches TV Guide and hopefully it is right. Shadows, if there are any, will play a part in all of these games. There are in NY anyway.
Yeah those are the times MLB and the Yankees are reporting. Also here is ESPN Page 2's series prediction  For all the offense the Yankees bring to the table, the Indians' core of Victor Martinez, Grady Sizemore, Travis Hafner and friends isn't far behind. Jason Giambi's struggles and Joe Torre's first-base defense fetish mean Doug Mientkiewicz will get the nod at first base, further narrowing the offensive gap between the two teams. On the other hand, the Indians have a sizable edge in starting pitching, with two Cy Young-caliber pitchers at the top of their rotation and two above-average proven commodities in the next two slots. Joe Borowski is one the shakiest closers in the game and could be a wild card in this series. But the Indians' combination of solid starters and stellar set-up men means they might hand over some two-, three- and four-run leads, giving Borowski some room for error. This one could easily go either way, but I'll take the Indians in 5.
And the Yankees beat them 6 straight by a combined score of 45-18 this year. Not surprised they didn't mention that. They got so involved with their stats they didn't see the reality. Sabathia is a wildcard because they haven't faced him since '04 but he is 1-6 lifetime against NY. Carmona on the other hand lost 2 of those 6 this year. In those 6 games A-rod went 8 for 24 with 6 HRs and 13 RBIs. I guess we should expect a big series from him..oh oh...
I'm gonna get in on this discussion with Seafood and the rest of you Yankee fans. I'm not as big a deal on the Yankee payroll as I was a few years ago. Sure the payroll is ridiculous but things being what they are the Mets and Red Sox could spend that much money as well should they choose to. I'm gonna disagree with you there IS. I recently worked for the Royals rookie league team and learned alot about the franchise and the fans. It's not so much the payroll because certainly the Glass family could afford to spend the money if they chose too but when an owner such as Glass or Carl Pohlad who owns the Twins choose to sit back and make more in luxary tax then they spend on a payroll that's bad for baseball. The Royals and not to rip them because I got to meet alot of really cool people within the franchise are a cheap organization. From Free Agents playing rookie ball all the way up to guys in the majors. They cut corners at the rookie level while I saw teams like the Angels and Diamondbacks putting much more money into their rookie level teams. For example; our team had to deal with a raggedy bus that broke down on a few occasions. I was in Boise taking a trip back to Las Vegas and I saw the Mariners same level but different league flying back to Seattle. Where I have a problem with the Yankees spending isn't so much on the Matsui or Arod contracts but I have a problem with the contracts given to average at best players like Damon who is on a serious decline or Pavano contract. I'm not a big fan of the bullying the Yankees do, such as the Randy Johnson deal or Bobby Abreu deal. They drive up the price on average players. That is what pisses fans of other teams off. I saw something about the Orioles and Blue Jays spending money and not mking good decisions. That's easy for a Yankee fan to say because the bad moves are not exploited so much like those of those two teams. It's easy to forget all the bad moves when you have an All Star team behind some of those bad moves. People easily forget Kevin Brown or Kei Igawa and Carl Pavano because the Yankees have Arod and Jeter and Posada to bail them out. The Blue Jays and Orioles don't have AS players at every position. The Yankees and Red Sox can afford to make mistakes while 3/4 of the teams in MLB can't. I don't know if a salary cap is the answer but I certainly feel that a floor like in hockey would add a competitive balance to the game. There certainly are owners of small revenue teams that can afford to spend the money they just choose not too.
I agree with most of that except Pavano. If you remember, Pavano was "suppose" to be better of the two between him and Beckett. The fact he turned out to be a total bust was a shame but the money spent on him really wasn't a lot for who should have been a star pitcher. On another note, the Yankees have close to 100 million coming off the payroll between this winter and next and that is for people they don't need to replace like Clemens, Giambi, Pettitte, Pavano and others I can't remember right now. That is when a good portion of the rest of baseball has to worry as they will no longer be supported by the Yankees.
I was just using Pavano because it was late and I couldn't really think of anybody else. While I hate Steinbrenner for being the devil himself I'd rate him as one of the best owners in baseball. They guy is always trying to gain an advantage even if he has to push the envelope and owning the team isn't a business for him it's a hobby and his passion. There are too many corporates that own MLB teams and I don't really think you can win at the highest level consistently if you treat an MLB team like a business. Think about it, the Glass family owns the Royals and they got all their money from Wal-Mart. They run their franchise like a Wal Mart. They occasionally have really nice things such as a Jason Giambi or Carlos Beltran for a discount price. Walmart brings in alot of money yet many people question their busniess practices. It's ridiculous that the Mariners are owned by a billion dollar company like Nintendo and only this year became competive again after a long absence. I seriously wonder if Ichiro wasn't Japanese say Venezuelan or Dominican would he have been resigned for the money he was given. Yes it was a good business move on their part but resigning him was likely done only as a business move.
good stuff Miano. youre right almost across the board...except as the other poster said about Pavano. You can aso make an argument as Mike and Mike did this morning that parody is at an all time high in baseball right now....maybe the luxury tax has worked a little bit...but if these "cheap" owners continue to pocket the lux tax money instead of reinvesting in the team, we'll always have the pirates and royals of the league
We'll have to see how the Royals do in a few years because I think the hiring of Dayton Moore was a great move on their part. They are attempting to take the money ball approach. Having an insider's view of the franchise I can tell you that the future looks bright and once Mike Sweeney is off the books the Royals may surprise a few people. They have some really good young players in Bannister, Meche, Gordon, Butler Hochevar, DeJesus and Buck. I also know they have some good young players down on the farm like Rowdy Hardy, Clint Robinson and Chris McConnel. As far as the Mets being an example of parody... like I've argued in another thread, the Mets were a mediocre team. There is no explanation as to why these guys were 2 games under .500 from June 1st on other than being a mediocre team. They were lucky to be in 1st place and I'm sticking to it.
Gawd, I hate the Yankees. I mean, I really, really hate the MF Yankees.... ...on the other hand....there is nothing in baseball better than the Red Sox and Yankees in playoff baseball. If nothing else, the Wild Card has brought us the best in baseball fot these series.... ...so now...WTF am I to do? I cannot and will not root for the Phukin Yankees, but I won't be disappointed if them and the Sox advance...
