Those are only his divisional series numbers. He's .314/.384/.479 in the playoffs compared to .317/.388/.462 in the regular season. So basically they're pretty much the same. Hardly suprising given the relatively large sample size of his postseason ABs.
One HR per 20 at bats is not bad. If he did that for his career he actually would have some power. Instead his career HR rate is 1 per 38 which is no power at all.
baseball-reference.com also shows it as 18 and I think that is correct. He had a lot in April. 6 or 7 I think. http://www.baseball-reference.com/j/jeterde01.shtml
Actually, you are right: MLB Only has "Playoffs" and "World Series" as options. I will get the correct stats.
I'd like to counter that argument. I am not retarded as I have a B.S. in Computer Science from Villanova University, and a M.S.E. from the University of Pennsylvania. I submit that as evidence that I am not mentally retarded. Now, as for not knowing baseball: I submit that FYI - Jeter's COMPLETE Post-Season Stats: G - 119 AB - 478 R - 85 H - 150 2B - 22 3B - 3 HR - 17 RBI - 48 BB - 51 SO - 92 AVG - .314 OBP - .384 SLG - .479 SB - 16 CS - 4 Are quite good. You said "his postseason numbers are worse than his regular season numbers." Why don't you tell me why I am wrong?
his postseason numbers ARE slightly worse than his regular season numbers. That was a counter to the argument against the misguided perception that Jeter is awesome in the playoffs. Since you decided to post his division series numbers instead of his postseason numbers before to prove I am wrong, here are his LCS numbers: .262 batting average, 5 homers, 20 RBI, .405 SLG in 41 games.
The quality of opposition is DRAMATICALY better in the post season than the regular season. Yet, there is no DRAMATIC difference in his statistics?
I admitted my error. Here is his COMBINED DS, LCS, and WCS numbers: FYI - Jeter's COMPLETE Post-Season Stats: G - 119 AB - 478 R - 85 H - 150 2B - 22 3B - 3 HR - 17 :rofl2: RBI - 48 BB - 51 SO - 92 AVG - .314 OBP - .384 SLG - .479 SB - 16 CS - 4
Junc, is that you? You're changing the argument. You were EXPLICITLY comparing the two based on DEFENSE. Offense is irrelevant. Here is what you said. Ripken is NOT considered the best defensive shortstop, so that argument is invalid to begin with. Basically that statement is the same as me saying "Ed Konetchy had 182 triples and Babe Ruth (widely considered the best player ever) only had 136, so Konetchy is better." Jeter gets credit that the catchers can't throw? Again, ridiculous. If he was so fast, he'd beat out double plays more often. Yes, they are, but so are balls thrown high, left, or right. That has to do with arm ACCURACY, not strength. How good the first baseman is at scooping throws is also a factor. Again, I'm not saying Jeter doesn't have a good arm, because he does, but you use a piss poor argument to try to prove it.
Two players don't make a team good...they'd still have awful pitching and a terrible lineup. You could add A-Rod and Jeter to that team and they'd still suck. As for Barry Bonds - he's old NOW...but when he was younger, faster, and more athletic, he was awesome in the outfield. If I was him, I would also want to play in the AL and play as a DH. He'd get millions of dollars just to go up to bat 3 to 4 times a game.
:breakdance: I love it. I especially love Abysmul (or whatever his name is) telling me I am stupid while I am retired in my 50s after making several million dollars on wall street, and he is still living in his mother's apartment downstairs.
I'm not saying you're stupid, in fact I have no opinion on the subject since this is the first post I think I've seen of yours, but money doesn't equal brains. Paris Hilton has more money than any of us will likely ever see and she's as dumb as a brick.
Honestly ...those who brag about making millions probably did not. I can say I made millions...Did they go to me ...of course not. I made millions for the company I work for. And bringing up abyzmul in the baseball forum is useless. He will not see it. You got balls, take it to the TT forum. ..
Wow, you are REALLY taking what I say out of context. Are you employed by MediaMatters by any chance? You were EXPLICITLY comparing the two based on DEFENSE. Offense is irrelevant. I never said that Derek Jeter was the best defensive shortstop in baseball. Only someone blinded by loyalty would make such a ridiculous claim. All I said was: 1) Cal Ripken Jr. is widely regarded as the best Overall Shortstop in Baseball History 2) Derek Jeter's defense is on par with Cal Ripken Combine those two facts with the additional fact that Jeter is on pace to break Rose's record, and may be making the argument that Jeter was the greatest SS ever after he retires. Also, I find it highly amusing that you want to blame catchers who can not throw for Derek Jeter's supposedly inflated SB numbers. Jeter plays against at least 20 different catcher across the season: You will never have the same kind of arm behind the plate, so some will be good and some will be bad. The point is that he is running against the SAME CATCHERS as everyone else is, yet he clearly has dominant base-stealing numbers over the rest of the league (Unless you are going to argue that Jorge Posada is the second coming of Johnny Bench. Go ahead, I need a good laugh). It's not Jeter vs. the Catchers: It is Jeter against the other base stealers. Meanwhile, unlike the same variance that is behind the plate with catchers, Jeter uses the same arm to throw the ball every night. And this same, consistent arm amassed the small number of errors this season. Suddenly, the Yankess have gold glove first basemen, scooping Jeter throws every night?
all these players have a completed baseball career and do not play anymore, jeter has 10 more years left when he retires than compare them.
