It's looking like a C- to me at this point. Training camp gets a D for nothing that would improve the team occurring and several things that hurt the team being done (cutting Kendall, no open competition for QB, etc.)
I'd give him a D. O-line, D-line, total waste of what was to be our great offseason acquisition (TJ). Just a little character/attitude on either side of the ball would boost him up even if we were still 1-3. His humdrum, emotionless approach is aggitating me at the moment.
Emotionless is the only thing that will keep the players on board through what we're going through. Screaming only helps if it works. It makes things worse if it doesn't.
I'd say C- I think most people knew it was going to be a tough season based on the tough early season schedule but the fact that the team in many positions seems to have digressed as opposed to progressing is worrisome. We all knew we didn't have a SB contending team but the team's performance in Buffalo shows what a step back this team has taken. The lack of passion by many of the defensive players seems to be a huge issue and a serious lack of a pass rush is killing this team. The DL seems to be invisable most of the time although we finally have had sacks in consecutive games. The off season signings have been mediocre at best and you go entire games without hearing the names of Robertson and Ellis. The LBs seem to be on the same level they were last year but Vilma's inability to work in the 3-4 hurts. He is also missing tackles. I do like what I've seen out Harris, Barton and Hobson though. If the DL could do a better job I think our LBs could be among the best in the game oh if Vilma picks it up. The DBs are terrible, Barrett might be the worst CB in the NFL and Dyson is way too inconsistent. Revis had his 1st bad game of the season but made the big play when he needed too. Erik Coleman has been beaten bad a few times and Kerry Rhodes seems to have taken a step back and he's not being used nearly enough in the blitz. Offensively I think we are worse than what we had hoped for, Chad seems to not be the same guy he was even last year. He still has the heart but he doesn' quite have the ability to run the offense that needs to be run in order to compete in the AFC. He might be able to get it done in the NFC but his lack of zip on the ball is gonna cost us eventually like it did last week. I've like what I've seen out of Thomas Jones but the problem is we're not seeing him nearly enough. Something I mentioned in the game thread and my buddy who is a Bills fan said to me yesterday. Why the hell is Thomas Jones not getting touched against the worst run d in the NFL? If we are gonna continue with Chad as the QB we have to get TJ involved in the offense more. I think Washington is a good 3rd down back but they only started using him this past week and avoided Jones. The Wrs are probably the strong part of this team. Granted J mac sucks and likely cost us a win in Baltimore but anybody who has an issue with Coles and Cotch is insane. Coles is gonna have 10 TDs and Cotch is gonna have 1000 yards. Both Pro Bowl caliber WRs. TEs Chris Baker needs to get teh ball thrown his way more. He has the ability to catch the ball but I guess he's too busy blocking to be a viable threat in our offense. OL, I'm not gonna try to sound like I know what I'm talking about with the OL but I know our QB's whoever it is isn't getting enough time to throw the ball and they aren't doing a great job of helping the run out either. Call D Brick a bust but he did a good job against Taylor and an admirable job against Schoebel. ST has been a disapointment. Nuge missing a 37 yarder was a game killer and they continue to give up big returns. LW has done a job good filling in for Miller but Graham has been way too inconsistent for my liking this year.
I'm giving him a B. (A B-minus really). The reason he's above a C is because I can't fault him for most of the team's problems. A total lack of personnel isn't necessarily his fault. Did the conversation actually occur that Pete Kendall claimed? Did Mangini truly want Kendall here, and Tanny was the one who refused to give in at any cost? Is it Mangini's fault we're still under the cap? The offensive line has been an issue since the Pats game. Is that EM's fault? I don't know. Sometimes you just get dealt a deuce when you need a three. If Chad threw harder, I wonder if the OLine issues would even matter. Then again, is it EM's fault Chad is starting? On the defensive side of the ball, he loses ground. It's his steadfast adherence to the 3-4 that stymies the ability of the players in-house. At the same time, the D schemes are clearly unimaginative, and I blame Sutton for that. My opinon on Mangini is that he's doing his best to make decent lemonade from stale lemons. This is another of those "ask me in a few weeks" things though.
d. Is there anything to be impressed with at this point? mangenious? I hope penningtons ankle falls off
I give him a B.. I think our team is still on the right track long term. Short term, he might have made a few mistakes, but I'm not surprised we are where we are. There's a lot to work on, but we have great rookies and newer players. It's the herm era players on our roster that just don't have what it takes to make games competitive.
B What can you do with a pourous defense an O-line thats still gelling and a Quarter back who's good on paper the best chance to win games Rather then go through New guy growing pains(Basically saying the season over at this moment). Better win this week or we are heading down the tubes , that no inspirational speach can fix.
D. You can bring a D up to an A with great effort and that is what the Jets will need to do for the 75% of the season that is left.
C. Would have been a solid C+ had we beaten Buffalo, 2-2 would have been a platform to build from. 1-3 sucks.
