In 2004, the Mets were 71-91 under Art Howe. I don't call that productive at all. In 2005, Willies 1st season, the Mets were 83-79. How can you laugh at my post and disagree with the fact that Willie turned a bunch of losers into something positive. The next year, he lead them to the playoffs. Point blank, I can give a shit about the Mets, because I'm a Yankee fan. But it's hard to believe how all the blame is put on Willie. I said it before, there is only so much he can do. Whatever.
Because Willie got Pedro Martinez and Carlos Beltran along with Jose Reyes and David Wright maturing in 2005. In 2006 He got Carlos Delgado among others. Stop trying to act like you know what you're talking about and follow your own team.
As I already noted, Art Howe's 2004 team and Willie Randolph's 2005 team were not at all the same - just to start, Willie had Pedro Martinez, Carlos Beltran, and full seasons of Jose Reyes and David Wright. It was that talent that turned a bunch of losers into .500 team. Adding Carlos Delgado, Billy Wagner, Duaner Sanchez, and Chad Bradford the next year (along with a much better year from Beltran) made the team even better. In any event, no one is "putting all the blame on Willie" - we are saying that he is a grossly incompetent manager and should be replaced, which is hardly the same thing.
Did you watch the Mets this month? Because if you didn't, it's like explaining Mozart to a deaf person.
I knew what the Mets were doing. They played like shit. I didn't take into account on the fact that Willie was provided with much far better talent that Howe was, so I apologize for those comments regarding the records. Whatever though, I have my own team to worry about. I'll back off the Mets talk. Enjoy the off-season...
No problem. I admit, I have to take part of the G.M.C, because it's just necessary consider it was done to all of us Yankee fans. But I'll stay out off the off-season thread...
Hurricane Katrina just smashed my fucking house down and you want to talk about what new shirts do I need already? I cant even think of this shit yet – accept FIRE WILLIE you sorry Tony Dungee mellow mother phucking retard.
Wagner from an interview this morning Burrell was right on the money about this guy, he is a rat. So sick of this clown running his mouth and never backing it up on the field. These are the kind of players you really have to avoid as a team, I don't know how many of the "veterans" are on board with Wagner's message but it can be poison in the clubhouse.
ok...I want LoDuca back....also bring Castro back.....they can split or play about 100/60 games a piece. Both will be fresh by the end of the year. Time to let Glavine go. Bring back Alou. Green can go. Trade Milledge or Gomez...which ever one you dont trade, they start in RF. Then in 2009, Martinez will go into LF or 1B for Alou or Delgado. Give Pelfrey a chance to start next year. If he blows....throw him in the bullpen, he could be a decent MR or 8th inning guy. Also, give Humber a chance, he was the number 3 pick in the draft for a reason. I guess we need to either keep Castillo or give Gotay the the starting job which is tough. Starting Rotation Next year: Pedro Maine Perez El Duque??? Pelfrey In 2009 is when we'll see Deolis Guerra in the later part of the season, he's only 18, jeez.
I never would have thought that Burrell was right about much of anything, but this comment is really shocking. This guy is the worst kind of sleazebag.
What garbage. Willie "holds the course" when something could actually be done about the Mets season, and when they blow it he cries. Please fire him tomorrow.
I don't see any good catchers on the market. Lo Duca and Castro isn't a bad platoon, but I prefer Castro getting significantly more playing time. I don't see any particularly appealing FAs aside from Posada (no chance) and Pudge, and he's expensive and his numbers are in decline. If Lo Duca is re-signed, stop jerking him around in the batting order. I expect that shouldn't be a problem though if Wilpon cans Willie like he should. What are you going to get out of trading Milledge or Gomez? Right now, I prefer keeping Milledge since he's more seasoned and better with the bat. Gomez is just fast. I have no problem bringing back Alou as long as he's platooned with someone else. Endy will be cheap to re-sign. The team still needs a second baseman. I'm not sure what to think about Castillo. Gotay isn't as sharp defensively. Can Anderson Hernandez hit worth a damn yet? I'm more concerned about building a competent bullpen. Swallow some damn pride and dump Mota, re-sign Sanchez for cheap and see if he can recapture his 2006 form and re-sign Burgos for cheap and see if he can learn to do more than chuck the ball hard. I think the team is stuck with Schoenweis even though I'd really like to dump him. I'm not particularly attached to Feliciano or Heilman, but I'll say that they can be effective when used properly. Joe Smith is useful when he's not burned out. I wouldn't insert El Duque into the rotation next year being as injury-prone as he has been in recent years. He would really shore up the bullpen though. As for the rest of the rotation, I'm not thrilled with Pedro, Perez, and Maine as the only known quantities, with two of the three known quantities being inconsistent. Starting pitching is the team's biggest weakness right now -- more so than the bullpen in my opinion, especially with nobody reliable performance-wise behind Pedro. Come to think of it, there really isn't much difference between this year's team and last year's team beyond the pitching. This is still a talented and capable team. The main thing is that someone needs to light a fire under these guys' asses and Jose Reyes needs to get his head out of his ass.
The 2 FA pitchers I saw who may be worth it is Francisco Cordero and Scott Linebrink, now they will be expensive but they would sure help us fix our faulty bullpen quick
