Easy we wouldn't be better running the 4-3, it would be like treating an amputation with a bandaid

the 3-4 simply does not fit our players. It never has. Our best 2 players are the ones hurt most by the move... Vilma and Ellis. I think Kerry Rhodes would be fine in the 4-3.

I dunno. I think we have some good players on D, but it is time for another overhaul.

Something about being balanced on both sides of the defensive field and rushers coming from all angles and blah blah blah we suck.

We would still have no pass rush in the 4-3 with players that wouldn't fit into the scheme. Changing schemes is bad since we still have to do an overhaul anyway

Even with the 3-4 we can't blitz. Why run it if it doesn't allow the D to stunt more?

i'd like to run the number 11 offense.

being ahead and threatening the other team's defense deep would allow a margin for error our defense does not have.

Because we are still rebuilding, it would be enormously stupid to start trying to build a defense and changing your mind midway. We wouldn't improve with the 4-3, and changing defenses caused us to have wasted players like Farrior who now would be a good fit.

What defense utilizes players that can't cover in a zone and can't pressure the QB? It's not the scheme, it's how it is being instituted, and how it is being coached. And the fact that we haven't actively sought a decent core for the defense doesn't help at all.

So we are now wasting players such as Vilma, Ellis and others. We can't stop the run. A 4-3 would take one weapon away from the opposition.

Do you remember how well Robertson was playing our final year in the 4-3? Do you remember how well Ellis played a couple of those years in the 4-3? Remember how Vilma used to make big plays, along with TONS of tackles? Thomas isn't doing shit in the 3-4, so he couldn't be worse in the 4-3 as a DE.....

The only guys on our D I can think of who wouldn't benefit from a change are Kenyon Coleman, Victor Hobson, and David Harris....

Ellis wasn't doing his job at the tail end of the 4-3 under Herm, and he's a prototypical 3-4 end. Robertson and Vilma are a waste in this system, and while it is a shame, they both should have been traded for scheme players or draft picks this offseason (pre-draft) if we were going to fully convert to the 3-4 as far as I am concerned. I think that if we go back to the 4-3 it is with a new HC, because we'd have to fire out entire defensive staff to change schemes now.

Well maybe you're right, but then they have to stunt more. Mix in different schemes. I can't take this bend don't break game planning. Man up, blitz two, do something other than sit back.

I remembered a 4-3 defense that couldn't sniff a QB, and that was before we got rid of Abraham, our defense will suck in the 4-3 like it is sucking now

I don't know if we would be much better in the 4-3 but Vilma certainly would. Guy is a complete distaster in the 3-4...he can't even make tackles when he isn't blocked. If we are sticking with the 3-4 we either have to move him to the outside or get rid of him.

Something has to change...I think it has to be Sutton. His defense is boring, ineffective, and looks like he drew it up on an etch-a-sketch.
