1998 was a great year for vinny but I don't think he was ever a winner the way chad has been. As far as holding chad out of the starting lineup, herm was never one to cast aside a veteran for an untested player. And I don't think anyone ever expected that chad would play so well in 2002. If herm had known, chad probably would have been in there earlier. It may sound like I think pennington is god- which I don't at all. I just think like IgnatiusJReilly (funniest book ever, btw) said earlier in this thread, that it's absurd how little credit Pennington gets, not just from the talking heads at ESPN but even from the jets fans who watch him every week. Just like anyone, I wonder what kellen clemens could do for the offense but at the same time, I've suffered through enough hopeless jet seasons to know that we're lucky to have chad running the offense. He's not pretty to watch but to say he's a bottom 10 qb in this league is crazy.

Like I said in 98 Vinny had a better year than Chad ever had. You realize that in 01 Vinny was 38 years old and Chad couldn't beat him out.
Huh? Oh my bad QB rating, YPA, etc. means nothing when it comes to making a point, I forgot. There was no competition, Vinny was the starter. I could say the god knows as KC has not beat out Chad but its a stupid point as Chad is the starter. Come on stop twisting every little thing to make your points.
The guy said Vinny had never been a winer like Chad had. Vinny probably had the single best year of any Jets QB ever in 98. The Jets had as good or better a season every year he started except 02. Chad was outstanding in 02 prior to his injuries. He was okay last year but a shadow of what he was in 02. So far he has played in 2/3 of the Jets games this year. Chad is a good NFL QB, not great. I would be very happy if Clemens turns into an upgrade because a young elite QB would be a real building block to a Champion and this team is in the process of building and is probably a couple of years out.
no you mentioned 1998 and I said it was a great year but overall Vinny has not been a winner throughout his career. Chad, despite his physical shortcomings, has a knack for winning. no he's never won the superbowl but just look at how the jets drop off without him in the lineup. he makes the team better. I may not have seen vinny in his youth but I watched the jet years, and with the exception of '98, the monday night miracle and a few other games, my memory of vinny is: beautiful cannon throws... and costly blunders. Maybe it's just me but with chad (unless it's the patriots in the post season) I always feel like he's going to pull it out for us. with vinny, I had more of a "please don't screw up, please don't screw up" mindset.
Vince Young is a winner. He is an example of a Qb with flaws that finds away to make his team better against better or equal talent. Chad has to have everything in place for him to win. He makes no one on the team better. To be the star player on a team that is not good. Chad has had no one to push him until now. Brooks Bolinger and Quincy Carter are not competition. I have never had the feel that Chad would rally the team from behind in the 4th qtr when we are loosing. How many times has he done it in the past?
I was thinking more along the lines of maintaining small 4th quarter leads and pulling out wins in close games. And those were the situations where vinny would scare me to death. When chad became our starter, the era of "finding new ways to lose" seemed to end. You're right that chad hasn't had a lot of huge 4th qtr combacks- not that I can think of off the top of my head anyway. True that Clemens is (hopefully) in a different league from chad's pat backups- but that shouldn't take away from what chad's accomplished on the field. As far as "making no one on the team better." I don't know enough about football to prove that statement wrong. I bet if you tried to debate laveranues coles on that point, we would learn a few things.
I love posting predictions on this board. Not to pat my own back, (ouch, my arm hurts) but I am 2 for 2, I called Thoams Jones to us for a second rounder before LAST year and called Pete Kendall to the Skins for a 4 or 5. I'm trying to go three for three. I agree with this purely, unfounded rumor that Chad will be a Chicaco Bear next year. I actually said this in a group of friends 2 weeks ago when Clemens looked good. I was trying to find logical homes for Chad next year and Chicago seemed the most logical. I have to go on record as I am a huge Chad supporter, but the business of football is what makes this trade make sense. We've got a young, 2 round QB who might be ready to take the reigns next year, so expect Chad to be moved for the right price.....and Chicago sems logical. Chad would be a great fit for that team, althoug Berrian might not think so. http://msn.foxsports.com/rumors/nfl#1
There's actually a whole 'Chad to Chicago' speculation thread.... So if it happens, you're no alone in calling it..
Well if you made those 2 calls: 1) you were wrong on the Jones deal. It was a movedown deal, not for a second rounder 2) You were right on the Kendall deal but you didn't need to be Enstein to figure that one out.
Chad is awesome. Losing him will hurt the team big time. However, I wouldn't mind purchasing a Pennington Bears jersey. And if he does become a Bear, no doubt in my mind they would win the Super Bowl. Yeah, I went there.
Why the hell would we get rid of Chad at this point. He's been one of the few positives on the team so far this year...
I don't know the exact date for certain, but it's probably October 11 or thereabouts. No way does Pennington get traded before the deadline. No way.
Hehehe...it begins all over again. Unless it gets merged, here comes the string of "This thread is useless" posts.
Mainly because with his contract he is very very unlikely to be a Jet next year regardless of his performance this year. I just do not see them renogitiating with Chad and having Clemens sit out his contract.
