Wilfork fine for hit on Buffalo's Losman Thursday, Sep 27, 2007 3:38 pm EDT Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that New England Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork has been fined $12,000 for his elbow to the knee of Bills quarterback J.P. Losman during Sunday's game between the two teams at Gillette Stadium. Video of the play ( :beer: :lol: ) shows that Wilfork was blocked toward Losman, but that Wilfork also threw his elbow toward Losman's knee. Just wanted to throw this one in there before you guys crucify my man.. :up: Wilfork on hit FOXBOROUGH -- Nose tackle Vince Wilfork drew a large media crowd in the Patriots' locker room today, and said he's reached out to Bills QB J.P. Losman to let him know he did not intend to injure him in Sunday's game. Wilfork and Losman have yet to connect. Wilfork, who has yet to hear from the NFL regarding a potential fine, feels his reputation is taking an unfair hit. "Let me make something clear," he said while sitting at his locker, surrounded by cameras. "A lot of people probably listened to what I said and took it the wrong way. The only reason I talked about a fine is that they have a rule for quarterbacks -- if you hit them below the waist you're subject to a fine. A lot of people probably think that Wilfork doesn't care, he's looking for the fine. That wasn't the fact. I got penalized for that, there are consequences behind that. "Did I mean to do that? No, far from that. Like I just said, if you know me as a person and a player, it wouldn't be an issue because they know I have too much respect and love for this game, and for players, for me to be a dirty player. "So if you don't know me, don't judge me. Point blank, that's what I want people to know. You have a lot of people out there saying 'that was a dirty hit.' If you don't know me, get to know me. Because if you know me, that wouldn't be a question. I'm not a dirty player." Wilfork was asked if he felt center Melvin Fowler was riding him on the hit on Losman, which came on the game's first play and knocked Losman out of the contest after three plays (knee strain). "I have one guy tripping me up, and I have one guy hitting my left leg," Wilfork said. "Of course, that's the only reason I was falling. I'm mad at the reason, because he's hurt. That's a quarterback. That's what I regret. Him being a quarterback and getting hurt wasn't intentional." Wilfork said he has some friends on the Bills and has reached out to Losman through them. "I've tried to talk to him, as a person, to let him know how I feel about the whole situation. We have people blowing this thing out of proportion, saying how dirty I am. All these years I've been playing football, never once have I been labeled a dirty player. All of a sudden, I'm a dirty player. ... "When I leave this earth, I'm going to leave with one thing, and that's my name. Don't bash my name because of one incident. As long as he understands that wasn't intentional, and that organization [understands], I'm fine." Wilfork was asked to clear up how he landed on Losman, with his right elbow flexed as he was falling. The elbow made contact with Losman's knee. "I have a million and one things going on in my mind," he said. "You're tripping, a 300-and-something pound [lineman] tripping, I have no idea what's going on. I don't know where my arm is at. Like I said, it wasn't intentional."
Let them crucify him, who cares? I actually had a guy here suggest that Wilfork did it on purpose because he wanted to take Losman out because he knew the Bills were playing the Jets next and he thought that the the Bills backup would give them a better chance to beat the Jets.:drunk: You know they are owned when you're in their head that bad.

blah blah blah.....actions speak louder than words. Dirty hit fines are usually 7,500. For the NFL to fine him 12g's means they though it was excessively dirty.
Why is he so defensive if it wasn't done on purpose? The video clearly shows him throwing his elbow towards Losman.
He's defensive because the reaction was taken before a fine was announced. Vince was just trying to lessen the impact on his wallet by appearing contrite. It didn't work.
See, this is what I mean. If someone on the Jets made a dirty hit, I'd feel embarrassed over it, say he was wrong, and certainly not defend it by default. It's the ridiculous way a goodly amount of NE fans 'explain' away cr*p behavior that rankles almost more than the behavior itself. It's like some guy slapping his wife and kids around and justifying it by saying, "They made me mad."
A three hundred pound guy was falling oddly to the ground and flared his elbow to brace himself so he didn’t bounce his face off the turf. He probably put his elbow out because when a big goon puts his hands out when he’s flopping down and tries to brace himself – well then he ends up playing 18 games in three years because shoulders aren’t meant to do stuff like that.

Losman on the first play of last Sunday's victory over the Bills. Wilfork The league informed Wilfork of the fine on Thursday afternoon. It is not yet known if the fourth-year veteran will appeal the fine. Before being apprised of the sanction, Wilfork told local reporters that he has attempted to contact Losman, who suffered a sprained knee on the play and is expected to miss the next two weeks, to explain to him that the hit was not intentional. Those attempts, Wilfork said, have been unsuccessful. "I've tried to talk to [Losman], as a person, to let him know how I feel about the whole situation," Wilfork told The Boston Globe. "We have people blowing this thing out of proportion, saying how dirty I am. All these years I've been playing football, never once have I been labeled a dirty player. All of a sudden, I'm a dirty player. ... When I leave this earth, I'm going to leave with one thing, and that's my name. Don't bash my name because of one incident. As long as he understands that wasn't intentional and that organization [understands], I'm fine." Videotape seems to indicate that Wilfork was blocked into Losman on the play, a first-and-10 from the Buffalo 21-yard line, as the quarterback threw to tailback Marshawn Lynch for a 4-yard gain. But as he fell into the quarterback, Wilfork appeared to extend his right elbow, making contact with Losman. Wilfork was penalized 15 yards for roughing the passer. The Bills quarterback attempted to continue playing but left after two more snaps. He was replaced by rookie Trent Edwards, a third-round draft pick from Stanford who completed 10-of-20 passes and will make his first start when the Bills host the New York Jets on Sunday. There was immediate speculation that Wilfork would draw a fine. The former University of Miami star, a first-round pick in the 2004 draft and regarded as one of the best young interior defenders in the league, insisted that Buffalo center Melvin Fowler nudged him into Losman and that the contact with the quarterback was incidental.
